| Quote ="FearTheVee"He's taken Catalans and Saints to cup finals. Check out Catalans this season compared to Potter's team. '"
There's a difference between a limited coach and an absolute clueless buffoon - Potter is the former and Walters is the latter. Catalans to the cup final granted was an achievement, Saints to a final with Anderson's team wasn't. Bit unfair to employ the same marker against MM, since he hasn't even completed a full season and therefore hasn't the same opportunities. Nevertheless it could be said that second is the first loser, getting to a final itself shouldn't necessarily be classed as success in my book - we went to a few finals in the early 2000s, but aside from April 2002, none were what I would consider a success.
Quote
MM the wonder coach beat Potter the loser on penalty kicks this season at KR, hardly conclusive proof of anything, especially with Wilkin in the halves. Tomorrow will prove nothing either given we have at least 5 internationals out, but when Leeds and Saints have a half decent team back come play-off time it's adios Wigan . . . just like the challenge cup (even though Leeds were missing a few internationals then too).'"
Played the conditions in a game against a team and at a venue which Wigan had a horrendous recent record - a success in anyones book. The relative positions in the table is the conclusive proof regardless for the time being.
I'm glad to see you are getting your excuses in early - it makes a refreshing change from the arrogance and gloating that we have had to endure in recent times.
As for injuries and one off results - I give you; Friday 18th April 2003, as an example of how form goes out of the window in derbies. Regardless of how well we appear to be going, I will never be dismissive of Saints chances in a derby.

| Quote ="SaintsFan"Nope. We haven't been very entertaining since about halfway through Potter's first season. Against Leeds this season we were. And Hull KR twice, although that was more to do with Hull KR giving us free reign to play. I did enjoy watching us play though. It had been quite a while!
Wire play entertaining RL and so do Cas (although not to good effect this season). I saw glimmers of entertaining rugby in Crusaders when they played against Bradford. I would say England RL were entertaining at times against France. For example, Sam Tomkins - who seemed to pop right out of his shell at Leigh - kicking through only for his brother to repeat the move with a try for Sam at the end: that's entertaining rugby. Entertaining rugby is a style.
Being entertained by a match of rugby league isn't the same thing. There can be many reasons for finding a match entertaining.'"
And for a Saints fan, anything Wigan do is automatically excluded?
By the way for such an exciting brand of rugby, as of last week Warrington had made the enormous margin of 2 extra clean breaks than Wigan.

Subjectivity sucks doesn't it. But I know what I am watching and this season in attack it has been a damn sight more entertaining than I've been watching for the previous 5 years.

| Wigan do their very best to play entertaining Rugby, which they are and scoring plenty tries in the process.
Wigan also try to stop their opposition from scoring tries hence the reason that at present they top the league.
Potter's real test is to beat Wigan the best way he and his team can. As he admits Wigan are playing within the rules.
So Potter needs to get Saints some tactics together, within the rules, beat Wigan and let the press do their own write ups of the game.
That way he can be the real pro he should be and talk about his team and not the opposition.

| I've never read as much hypocritical, one eyed, B0llox as I have from the 2 x Saints Fans on Here!
When Saints win it's entertaining, when they lose it's boring because Potter's coached them to be boring!
Wigan win it's boring, when they lose it's because the other team are brilliant! When MM coaches a team that finished 6th to top spot & 4 point clear it's all because the other teams have injuries, When Wigan have injuries (I make it 4 internationals & 2 other Junior internationals /1st teamers tomorrow btw!) it doesn't count!
When Saints Slow the PTB down it's good defense, when Wigan do it it's boring blah blah blah!
When Sam Tomkins plays for Wigan It's Boring but suddenly he pulls an England Shirt on under that Tactical Genius called McNamara against a Bunch of No-Hopers from a pub in France and he "Pops out of his Shell" and plays entertaining Rugby!
Probabaly that's the type of "Entertaining Rugby" You like, Teams that just Roll over & let Saints play Basketball, Hide it up your jumper or a Brand of 1 man Hooker Scooting that's more akin to watching under 9's play and watching your team win 65 -6!
Unblelievably Ludicrous!
I'm absolutely amazed at how Blind you 2 are to the complete rubbish your spouting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS Saints Fan
Quote ="SaintsFan"Statistically Wigan may have played some of the best attacking rugby in the competition. But playing attacking rugby and entertaining rugby can be too different things, as is the case with Wigan this season.'"
&
Quote ="SaintsFan"Most of the fans would leave through boredom. What is the point of having a team that gets to the top (which we have been on plenty of occasions in SL anyway) but which has no fans to follow it?
Give me free-flowing, pacy rugby league any day. I don't mind us surrendering the league leaders shield every now and again if it means I get to see some entrancing rugby league from Saints.
Alas. This season it looks like neither will happen! Either we play some brilliant stuff or we play such garbage it makes me want to cry. And under Potter/whoever is the conditioner, we seem incapable of keeping 13 fit men on the pitch for longer than half a match.'"
Absolute Classics!
If it weren't for the laughable hypocricy of the posts I think I'd blow a Fuse!
Wigan aren't entertaining and nobody will watch it!!!!!!!!!!
I think you should have a look at your own crowds to decide who's rugby is more entertaining or not! Just because you "Self Proclaim" to be the Entertainers doesn't mean everyone believes it, Maybe Eddie as he's Braindead as well as Brainwashed, but not us lot!
It's good to see that the falling crowds at other grounds is now down to the tactics that Wigan are Employing! Fantastic!
You couldn't make it up!

| Of course Wigan are boring ..... don't you know after all these years of supporting Wigan that we never win anything fairly .... remember in the 80's we only won so much because we bought success and in the 90's we only won because we were the only full time team !!! Now its down to us lying on .... bit rich coming from the Scousers .... I remember in one match Chris Joynt was lying on for so long that St John's Ambulance rushed on to revive him not realising it was the Saints tactics of the day

| wigan are playing it fine in defence, we are wrestling on the floor but we are legal, within the rules and chrome dome kear and the other whinging minnies need to catch up or shut up.
in attack, saints speccies on here are way off, we are very exciting and cutting edge in attack, we are not methodical and boring. teams are struggling to defend our wide plays, as evidenced by goulding and pryce scoring so many tries. quick ptb, couple of miss passes, with the threat of amos up the middle, and teams cannot handle it.

To be fair it's only one Saints fan saying that.
I've said loads of times this season that Wigan are great to watch in attack.
I've also said that holding players up in defence ad infinitum is not my cup of tea, but fair play to Wigan and McGuire for mastering a very effective tactic. If it remains within the laws of the game then good on them.
Don't expect coaches not to complain about tactics though - it was ever thus and a lot of Wigan fans were complaining about Huddersfield's style last season for similar reasons.

All coaches try to influence the ref, your coach was banging on about a ref the other day, something like every game youve lost this year was the same ref?
Lets be honest here, madge has brought spoiling tactics to wigan this year, i say if you can get away with it then good on you, just expect everyone to like it or don't complain when refs do you for it.
It's a fine line when spoiling and slowing the game down, some days the ref will punish you for it and some days you will just get away with it.
Good luck today
Is that not trying to influence that ref?

Get away with it? Last time I checked, our defence was within the rules. Just because we seem to be doing it better than most teams, it makes it illegal does it? So what if we slow the play the ball down, isn't that what most teams try and do anyway, to give the defence a longer rest period during tackles?
