There would be a cost to rebrand, but future campaigns to continue the brand would carry a cost too.
UN-branding would bear similar costs.
Down here, if I say I follow Wigan, I usually have to follow that with 'rugby' as ignorant football fans assume I mean the Latics. Then I have to say it's not Wasps or Saints (Northampton) or Saracens 'cos it's LEAGUE, not fookin kick and clap!!

Of course it would cost money, what doesn't? It also costs money for the current campaigns we do.
To say it would be an 'unimaginable' figure is rather silly though.

You need to open your eyes a bit more fella.
Click on the official website.
What's the first thing you see on that huge advertising image for season tickets?

| Kids are the future yes, but if we drop the 'Warriors' tag, it isn't gonna make a difference to them. But IMO it's not going to change anytime soon, so if you don't like it, then don't use it. Thats what I do.

Kids maybe the future but I have a long way (hopefully!) to go yet and Warriors is tacky imo.

Quote ="Odem"I hate it but you couldnt be more wrong.

Just open the official website and the new marketing campaign for season tickets says 'Warriors together'.
The website spent all last season going through our squad with images saying '(insert name) is a Warrior, are you?'
The logo' for the community foundation etc. are all based around 'Warriors'.
The list could go on.
The club would need to have a huge rebrand of the club during the off-season with huge ANNOUNCEMENTS
to catch attention, this in itself could have a huge impact and get more fans in and get us noticed. This campaign could include a seriously retro shirt design, a return to the old crest, and slogans about our history.
I think the name change could work and along with a proper campagin could actually be ALOT more succesful than our average season ticket campaigns, especially if it was on the back of a trophy winning season. The next round of franchise applications could be the perfect opportunity IMO.
Studying marketing at Uni, my current dream job is to be head of marketing at Wigan, I will get it done
'"
There's still no relation to the word ''Warriors'' and the meaning of the word.
The slogans would work just as well as ''Sam is a Wiganer, are you?'' and ''Wigan together'' etc.
There's no affiliation with it, we don't need it and I think it blemishes the traditional Rugby League club image which works and suits club more than the Americanised type identity. IMO, the two dont mix for Wigan.

Agreed but that is not the issue. Clearly the club and their marketing researchers believe the warriors tag is popular, maybe because it cannot be confused with Wigan Athletic. I hate Warriors and dont think ive ever said the word, but i think its here to stay.

| I've only ever really watched Wigan since the superleague started so to me its always been Wigan Warriors. I wasn't there in the "good ole days" when it was just Wigan RLFC so can't really see this from a traditionalists view. In all honesty I really don't see what all the fuss is about. People aren't being forced at knife point to call us "The Warriors". It's all about the brand and Warriors imo plays to much of a big part of that brand now to just get rid of it because some fans don't like it.
Being called warriors Isn't making us play worse is it? infact MM used it as best he could to inspire us and be "Warriors" on the pitch. It wouldn't bother me if for some reason Wigan wanted to get rid of it... But I really don't see the need to. If it ever got to a point where the team are simply only ever reffered to as The Warriors and not known for actually being Wigan then it might bother me but that doesn't happen.
Are some fans ever going to be happy?.. "Well we've got a nice traditional kit so lets find something else to moan about over the winter"

It really isn't that much of a issue.

Simple through Commercialisation. Loads of other sports have already conquered Commercialisation whilst good old Rugby League is still struggling with Globalisation. The Wigan brand is unfortunately one that is getting weaker, especially more so now the Latics are in the Premier League.
People can moan that it is Americanised, but when it comes to marketing and promoting sport, they do it very well.

Not true, we are known GLOBAL by the name of Wigan R.L.F.C
I haven't seen one decent arguement yet to suggest it makes any difference to the club what so ever.

The wigan name isn't a strong enough brand. Maybe twenty years ago if you said you supported wigan, people would understand rugby league, but because of latics it has changed. Same with most teams. You will surprised what a difference it makes.

There isn't.
But then where is the evidence, it hasn't been a success, and we would be better off changing back to Wigan RLFC?
Fact is it won't be changed back to what it was as there is no need and no gain from it.
