I never thought I would agree with a Wiganer - Rogues apart from time to time -


Ganson had a good game tonight. He is by far the best and fairest ref in the comp. All teams fans think the match ref has been harsh against their team it's only natural. As for Ganson my only gripe is the fact that he comes from St. Helens and I don't like him reffing our games as opposition fans think he is being biased towards our team.

On watching the game again when I got home (with a couple of glasses of red) I must admit that Gansen had a better game than I thought whilst I was at the game. However there were a few howlers.

The first penalty for Wigan holding down, Keith Senior pulls the Wigan player onto him. Fieldens lost ball when the Leeds player dislodged it from underneath him, and the "don't look at me comment". The knock on and forward pass leading up to Burrows' disallowed try and the one on one ball steal on Fielden when there had already been two in the tackle (Stevo making up his own rules again)

If fat boy monkey features Ganson wants to engage in banter with players he can't then penalise them when they answer back.

So Fielden threw him a dirty look.
SG: "Hey, don't look at me, you don't try and get off your mark it's not my problem"
SF: "I didn't say anything!...I can look at you."
SG: "You don't look at me, it's not my issue."
SF: "I can look where I f*cking want"
*penalty*

Then he explained why he gave the penalty: "Your issue is...you're playing the ball on the mark, you trying to get up, move off the mark, you've lost the ball three times, don't look at me and blame me." WTF?? Is that his official explanation?

Fielden was on his mark at all times. The replay shows that very clearly. He was trying to get straight up off the man beneath him (who elbowed the ball out), he didn't move anywhere off the mark. Of course he shouldn't have answered back at all and certainly shouldn't have sworn, that's was bloody stupid thing, but it doesn't help when Ganson is goading him into a response.

Terrible refereeing.

A good game generally, let down by Ganson's achilees heel- his ego.

Some of the pens were rather soft, I thought his decisions on some of the knock ons, mainly Fieldens were pretty shocking!

I think he is a top ref,he is the only one who will never bottle a big decision.

He wants so much to be centre of attention its cringeworthy. The bit where he has a go at Fielden for looking at him was really bad, i wouldnt of blamed Fielden for knocking his head off.

Ganson was standing no messing.
He had a spat with Fielden and later marched Ryan Bailey back ten for an ironic hand clap on Ganson's decision.
One of those tackles where he penalised us for wrestling on the floor, I thought the Leeds player hit the ground with his ball carrying arm. If he did and we started to wrestle rather than roll away then it's a pen.

What annoys me about refs are the number of forward passes that get missed.
James Child got one right tonight at the Willows and he got a few when he ref'd us at our place. As for the rest they just seem to let them go!

He isn't a top ref. He's just miles better than the other load of dross.

But that makes him top, doesn't it? Top of a rubbish heap is still top...

He asks Fielden at the next scrum....."Are we friends again now" !!!!!!!!

Yeah I heard him say that too, thought he was probably talking to Fielden. What a gifford.

That's the whole point in a nutshell. If the ref wants to penalise to ensure quick PTB's then he needs to do it consistently for both sides and he didn't. Had he done so the match would have dissolved into a penalty-athon.

Because he didn't, it then leads to accusations of bias based on the fact our tackling technique has been highlighted by certain coaches on the wrong end of a result.

I would add though that he got most of the other decision's correct but the way he went about things in the first 20 minutes to get the quick PTB was not even handed.

I pay my hard earned to watch two teams playing a game of rugby not him! The sooner this overweight over ego idiot retires the better. He is the worse ref in superleague!!

No, Ganson says...." I saw what he did ", obviously not Steve as he didn't do anything !!!!, he is arguably the best ref in the comp, but he does like the 'limelight'.

I personally think he may have said that to try and diffuse any anger from the Leeds players who thought Joel had done something.

Ganson is streets ahead of the rest who quite frankly are a complete bunch of no-marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or maybe he saw how well Joel was playing and wants him banned before we play his beloved Saints on Friday !!!!

Can I just correct this part?

Ganson didn't have a clear view of ST's jump and as no TJ told him anything, he gave a 20m restart.

As he was running back, the TJ on the West Stand side told him (several times) that Sam had jumped from the field of play.

To clarify the situation, Ganson referred to Alibert, but it was the TJ who screwed up by not saying immediately that it should be a dropout (and TBF - Ganson had a go at him, and the TJ apologised both at the time and at half-time for not being quicker to make the call).

My only issue with Ganson on Friday was that Leeds were being just as fast/slow as we were at the PTB, but he only penalised us as he seemed to think that he needed to "sort us out" early on.
