The club tweeted we’ve sold over 3,500 this morning, so there can’t be that many left.
I’m still scared mind

Nah, just justifiable concerns about getting back to the car after the game and finding it on bricks

| Having looked at social media comments this week the forecast for Friday in St Helens is a sprinkling of overconfidence with a touch of arrogance.
Might as well not bother turning up.

Not sure thats entirely true to be fair. The ones I speak to or the comments I have read acknowledge the threat that Wigan have. However its completely fair to say that if both sides bring their A game then we will win, a fact that most of if not all your fans acknowledge.
We are the better team but form goes out of the window on derby day.

Do you know what if Wigan bring their A game Wigan will win that is how much confidence I have with what Matty Peet and the boys are capable of.

| We've no chance.
They've got the best player player in Superleague in Morgan Knowles, or is Jack Welsby and I've just seen the best one yet, the fastest prop in Matty Lees.
Seriously though I'm really looking forward to the game and the semi, it'll be a good benchmark of where we are. We're still a young team with plenty of development to come whereas I reckon Saints will start to drop off in the next two or three seasons as they lose some of their established older players. I suppose that depends on who they sign as I don't see that much real quality coming through just below 1st team level.

Agree I think they will drop off, could even be this season because if they dont win every trophy going surely that means they have dropped of with them having the best players in the league,.
How none of their players are not in front for man of steel I just dont know.surely some mistake.

Well we didn't win the LLS last season so thats something we can aim for this season
And to take you up on your last point, Sione Matautia was leading the MOS before he got injured.

| The man of steel system is a farce in fairness. Saints could win 20 titles on the trot and it is unlikely they’ll get a man of steel winner because their points will be spread around. The man of steel is now an honour given to a real stand out player at a club that only has one or two that sit well in front of the others. Now don’t get me wrong, Field has been sensational and would be leading the race under any format this season but the system is all wrong.

Absolutely spot on. Only this system would see someone like McShane win it. Not to say he isn't a decent player, but best in the league? Not a chance.
It's shame the voting system with the players was so openly abused as that had it's merits. But when certain players just voted for their mates or for people of the same nationality, it was a joke.
My idea is very simple and it would be for each head coach to vote for 1 player at the end of the season. None of this weekly points system/league table, voted by people who have probably watched a 15 minute highlight package. Just ask each coach to vote. They probably watch more minutes of rugby than anyone else and would be trusted to vote fairly. Obviously you would need something in the event of a tie, but I think it would be a very simple and fair system.

The players and their amazing ‘banter’ brought about this system because they couldn’t be trusted to vote properly, even for an award in the name of a legendary man like Steve Prescott. It absolutely needs a rethink and your idea isn’t a bad one. You could give each head coach, each club captain and a panel of journalists a vote each maybe and work it out that way. Maybe even involve the refs and give them a vote.
If they did it that way this season and the vote ended today, Jai Field would win it using that system, the current one or any other you choose but as you say, there is no way McShane was MOS last season.

The current system means a good player in an average side has a good chance of winning it. Names off the top of my head are Lino, Lolohea, Abdull. All good players but none of them are in the top 10 in the country.

Great post. It’s refreshing to hear someone else who gets it. That said, if the season ended tomorrow Field would utterly be deserving of it. What annoys me is if someone like Stefan Ratchford won it just because he was the best of a bad bunch every week. That’s the major flaw in it

Does that happen in the NRL though? Their Dally M system seems to work better than ours for determining good players.
