I did wonder if selection today was a nod to next weeks team (and then potentially the Penrith team) with Harvie Hill not playing. He’s been excellent in pre season and looks in fantastic shape. I’m expecting him to get a spot on the bench next week and if he nails it, he could keep a spot for Penrith and that would be huge for him.

I thought they may try and fast track Cooper in to the Penrith game but when Hill wasn’t named today, that made me think they’ll go with him next week and in the WCC and I think that is the right the right call. He did well up until that semi last year and missed out in the final and a chance like this feels a good reward for him and just shows he’s right in the mix, regardless of all the signings. |

Just seen the new special addition shirt video released by the club, great to see that Derms is doing well. A local lad who won it all a number of times but never featured for Wigan promotionally off the field once his career was finished until now. Long overdue.

Yep, overall seems to be getting a positive response from fans online, a few grumbles too and would imagine some fans wouldn’t of purchased the regular shirt had they known a much nicer version was in the pipeline. |

FWIW, I don't really understand where the barometer of seriousness v Saints opposed to v Wigan has come from. It was an unbelievable achievement for Saints last year, as it would be if we were to win this. These men coming over have a salary cap approximately 4 times (?) more than SL clubs. |

If we're all being honest, Penrith will not be taking it as seriously as Wigan, that's a fact. It's Wigan's biggest game for 5/6 years, Penrith certainly aren't treating it like that. However, it's clear to see Penrith want to right the wrong of last year.
With regards to acclimatisation, all the research is out there suggesting approx 9 days is sufficient. Like you, I'm not sure when they arrive though. |

I'm very bored of this childish debate and have no interest in St Helens in the context of this game - its about Wigan and Penrith. But I'll bite on one point. How on earth do you know where Jerome Luai is at with his rehabilitation? |

The Aussies have not taken it seriously since the 1990s, the same applies to international rugby league. The only thing that matters to them is the NRL and Grand Final. Nothing has changed this year. The only thing I would add is, why would they want to come to a third world country in winter? |

I don't but neither did Wigan fans with Dylan Edwards when we were told he was "rested" for our game. I think if Luai plays R1 its telling so lets see.
Wigan fans seemingly angry that Saints fans have the temerity to return serve with points indicating that Penrith perhaps aren't taking it as seriously as first thought.

Are they taking this game as seriously as they could do? Clearly not (they’d be here if they were and would be playing a warm up game).
Did they take the Saints game as seriously as they could’ve done? Clearly not (resting players not coming off major surgery, billing it as a pre season challenge game etc)
That’s about the top and bottom of it all IMO but Saints achievement was a fantastic one and so would ours be. I still can’t get my head around why that rattles Saints fans so much.

Luai has had major surgery and went off in a Grand Final. You know as well as any of us that’s a totally different situation to Edwards and Martin, however much you’d like to try and use it as a counter argument.
I honestly have no idea why it’s so offensive to look at the evidence and think Penrith haven’t treated these games as they would an NRL grand final (that’s both the Saints game and this game next week). They have numerous advantages over our sides, so they should be able to overcome them not treating it as a be all and end all fixture. |

You’re a sensible guy mate, honest question for you-do you think they took your game or are taking this game as seriously as they would an Aussie GF or a big league fixture?
The Aussie sides don’t respect us and you only need to look at how Saints prepared for the away fixture last year, compared to how Penrith are preparing for their away fixture this year to see the difference in attitude towards it. |
