Quality stuff. Thank you for confirming my opinion of so many on here. I support RL first, Cas second. When you leave school you might appreciate the importance.

I hate getting into willy measuring contest BUT I went to last years 4 nations and without doubt the majority of England fans there were Wiganers. It was probably easier to tell as there only around 1K- 1.5k on all tours but in both Melbourne and Auckland and even the final in Brisbane around 50% came from Wigan.

| Quote ="21-12"Yes. Your not seriously expecting more than that are you? There was only 16k omn at the DW when England played Australia.'"
I'll be amazed if there's 20k actually.
They talk about the Rugby League 'family'. Maybe that's what people want. I don't. Families are small groups of people. I want a growing sport. By which I mean more people watching it. Don't care where they are. If they put something in the drinking water of Skegness and found it could suddenly support 7 superleague teams, fine, have 7 teams in Skegness. Doesn't matter. 'Expand' the game where there's people that want to watch it. And PLAY the international game where there's people that want to watch it.
That ain't London (at the moment). People will ( just about, provided its Wigan or Leeds ) go to watch their club at Wembley, but few can be a***ed to watch a made-up team ( England - it should be GB) get walloped by the Aussies.
Back in the day...when the acheivements of Wigan, on and off the field, could get a little bit of decent national press from time to time, you could get a reasonable number of interested southerners to turn up at Wembley for internationals ( I once took 3 with me ).
Rugby League (outside Wigan) has decided that it despises Wigan. We have hysterical nonsense about career-ending tackles (which remarkably never seem to end careers) and hysterical Sam-bashing based on the idea that this apparently humble guy thinks he's the world's best player ever ( when he's never said anything like that - in fact always the opposite).
League despises Wigan because you can swap the word 'family', for a more accurate alternative - 'small-minded'.
Wigan is the only club with the presence and fan-base to lead RL into a bright future. The RFL and the rest of the game should be saying "Thank You" to Wigan. "Thanks for your fans, Thanks for your town supplying by FAR the highest number of great players (per population) than anywhere else in the country". " Thank you for being the last glimmering light of any National press coverage". "Thanks you for not just giving up and converting to Union in the face of constant sniping from the game itself and the pair of idiots that represent the game on TV".
But they won't. League thinks small and will remain small. Only one club can lead the game onto bigger things, but rather than embrace that, they'd rather run us down as 'ruining the sport'. Love to see what state the sport would be in without Wigan. Then the morons might understand what a 'ruined' sport looks like.

| Heighington will be 13 if Lockers is injured imo, probably the reason he was brought in if McBanana was aware of this.

Actually there is very little in life I want more than an Ashes series victory. I really couldn't give a flying feck who wins SL or the GF as long as RL is successful. I would like Cas to win it but I accpeted a long time ago it is unlikely. Failing that there are a number of teams I would prefer to win. I will be supporting one of them on Saturday. If they lose I will be pleased for the other team when I get over the temporary disappointment. I would sacrifice seeing my team ever win anything again for an Ashes series.
So, is the £100 bet on? Come on, man up.

Agree.
I've seen Wigan win more trophies than most other clubs have in their entire history, but I want us to win a Ashes series more than anything else.

I would swap success at Wigan for RL to be a huge hit internationally and to have the success and coverage of Rugby Union. That's the reason why RU is so big, down to the International game also down to big tournaments such as the Heineken Cup. The Premiership in RU is some way off the International game in terms of quality and I'm pretty sure TV figures for SL is higher than the Premiership.
I think its shocking the narrow-mindedness of some Wigan fans in not taking an interest in the International because thats the one thing that if we get right, the sport will grow.

| Anyway back on topic, if Lockers does miss the 4 Nations it will be huge loss. Opposition fans might not realise the huge extent of the loss, but it certainly will be interesting to see who he is replaced with. Have a horrible feeling it will be Sinfield.

This.
In August I was faced with what appeared to be a choice between the CC final and the 4 nations game at Wembley, I chose the 4 Nations game, and bought my tickets then. As it turned out, circmastances changed and I was able to do both, but if it was to be the same choice, I'd rather support RL at Wembley. I think taking the double-header there is a bold move, and one I support. I hope it works, and I'll be backing it with my own money.
Admittedly I still haven't found a home for my 2nd ticket yet, since my Dad bailed on me, but hey, I might just take somebody from round here and grow the sport's fan base by one. Perhaps the RL should introduce a Take a Midlander to Wembley scheme...

I've taken about 6 of my mates from Coventry to Wigan games this season and they have all thoroughly enjoyed it. There is definitely potential for the sport to grow and I find that people that have no interest in Rugby at all prefer watching League to Union, whereas Union fans are a bit harder to convert.
The number of people I have had in work/uni ask me if I have been watching the World Cup because they assume that because I watch rugby it is Union and then I have to explain that it's League and then the difference etc
People can't deny that the Union World Cup has been a success, no matter how one sided, or of poor quality the games have been. Something I hope RL can aim for in the future.
