For the oldies he was on Superstars, although not a rugby player I remember Supermac Malcolm Macdonald being one of the fastest on that show. They claimed at the time that his time for the 100 was one of the fastest in Europe

I think you've finally cracked it professor! If we combine your well respected theories, we could inject part of Brad Fittler's brain into Joe Greenwood, combined with cheetah DNA and the coaching of Kelvin Skerrett, he could become an unstoppable rugby league legend. You wouldn't have to recommend we concede games then!

Didnt Mark Forster win a sprint comp at central park. They had a sprint on SKY RL in recent times with a rep from every team, there was a cumbrian lad expected to win it I cant remember who did.

Keith Fielding I think won the Champion of Champions on Superstars.
if he wasn't the fastest ever on Superstars he must have been very high in the pecking order.
I remember seeing him at Central Park in I think the late 60's and he scored 2 absolute belters. I recall thinking when I first saw Offiah was he quicker than Fielding because the two of them are the fastest guys I can recall on a rugby pitch.
Neither Fielding or Offiah would get a game today in SL because they didn't do the "hard yards"

craig calvert?
I was at CP when Offiah stuffed them all including Eddy Mafie, then saw albert stuff them all at Robin Park, we sent Liam Colbon for that although we had Carney and Dallas, Joe Lydon beat Drummond on the pitch

Lydon was fast he never looked like he was trying, Calvert was the player I was thinking of. One of the tries that stands out for me was Joel Tomkins for England against the exiles at Headingley length of the field interception never looked like getting run down.

| Good interesting thread, and jogged my memory with regard to RL players and BBC's Superstars (I'm not going to get that tune out of my head now!). Offiah was the quickest I've seen, but certainly Fielding, Drummond and others mentioned also had pace.
One that comes to mind in the P&B, is Richard Henare, who looked very rapid but didn't have the durability of the others.

Is this Paul Sampson who played for Wakefield and then went to Union. If so he was rapid and think he came from a sprinting back ground before rugby.

Is this Calvert from Wath Brow Hornets ?
If so played against him a few times he was quick and had a good centre inside him at the time as thought both would be signed

| Calvert came down from Whitehaven and played a trial game for Wigan v Saints at reserve level. He scored a good try but defensively was weak, reminded me very much of Mark Preston.
