Saints were comical at time. Like Zig said the pack needs an overhaul. Some of those saints players looked disinterested, Lomax being the main culprit. Build a good back line for next year however if one player gets injured the quality taking their place isn’t the best. Think the key would be getting rid of Wellens early his incompetence may likely cancel out Briers. I’d be in the market for a prop; Walmsley can’t stay off the treatment table, Passi looks like he’s been enjoying his food whilst injured, lees costs you a card/pen most games. The young lads are decent however can’t do it alone behind a beaten pack

Stephens looks like a real find, if he gets handled the right way over the next couple of years he could be an absolute monster for Saints

What are Saints fans thinking with Delaney currently? He was lauded coming through but I always just thought he looked like Mark Edmondson had made a comeback. He is as game as they come but his running style lends itself to getting bashed about the place and that quickly takes its toll. On the other hand, Stephens is looking the real deal. He doesn't look much of an athlete but he is so awkward to tackle and is very very rarely getting dominated.

He’s struggled a bit this year albeit I think he’s improved over the last few weeks. Apparently he’s been playing on with a knee problem for a lot of the year so could explain his downturn somewhat. Doing better in contact now he’s stopped turning his back going into contact. Unless he adds some weight, he’s more than likely going to be another Matty Lees rather than a big metre eating prop. I think he’s going to be a good player but probably not the level of which his early reputation suggested. Still only 20 though I believe so plenty of time on his side.

I agree about Stephens, he’s a very exciting prospect. Not sure if his fitness is way under par or what but Wellens seems reluctant to play him for more than 15 minutes a game

He looks unfit to me. Carrying quite a large amount of timber. I know he is a prop but he needs conditioning properly. I said to YG a couple of weeks ago that he looks like the best player out of the ones that have come through this year. He is going to be a top notcher IMO but that fitness definitely needs some work. Delaney just reminds me of Partington. Loads of heart but a bit of a crash barrier, not many yards but won't take a backward step.

Why unfortunately?

The lad needs to get to the ground and gain a quick play the ball rather than getting battered when he hits the line. I genuinely fear for his long-term health if he carries on like this.

McDonald has been outstanding to be fair, but think Lewis is winning it comfortably

I'm not being funny but there should be no Saints players in the dream team this season. Any player on a team that have lost 12 games in 27 shouldn't have a sniff really.

It’s not something I am interested in since the powers that be gave the award to Roby ahead of Barrett. Nothing against Roby he was a fine player but that season just showed what a farce the honour was.

To be fair Lees has carried that pack at times. The dream team I saw had points next to each name so I assume it is the highest point scorer in each position. French is the best 6 in the competition, closely followed by Williams imo but due to his injury lay off would not have accrued enough points to get in.

Sneyd and Lewis are both 7’s so someone has decided to omit stand offs from the team.

Everyone talks about Roby over Barrett but the worst one of all time was 2020 Paul McShane winning it over Bevan French.

Croft winning it over Field in 2022 wasn’t great either.

Lees is a great player. Wouldn’t have been ahead of Amone or Ese Ese in my head but not far behind.

A bloke who’s lost his starting job to Sam Powell getting the hookers spot is strange. O’Neill surely was a shoe in and no hooker in the league has had a better game than Ipape last Friday.

I would be fine with either Lewis or Sneyd picking it up, both have been integral to their sides form this season. Sneyd in particular deserves it as once again, Salford have finished way above where everybody expected them to.

If it isn't Peet (it should be, 3 trophies this year with a potential 4th must count for something) then i wouldn't be opposed to Rowley winning coach of the year either, i would see that as deserved.

Peet could do the Grand Slam and I still think Willie Peters will win coach of the year. Sky have thrown everything behind the HKR story this year. Lewis will rightly win the MOS and Peters will get coach of the year. Clearly we'll have the young player of the year in Junior Nsemba, although if Sky had their way they'd probably give it to Ryan Hall

I don't get this "doing well at a perceived smaller club" being more impressive than at a bigger/more successful club. Hull KR have done well this year but as yet have won nothing. KR have been there or thereabouts for a couple of years, have some of the best players in the comp and spend up to cap. Why is Willie Peters winning nothing (so far) more impressive than Peet winning everything? Being at a big club is no guarantee of success. Just ask Rohan Smith, Paul Wellens, Steve McNamara or a succession of Hull FC coaches.

I agree but the people who make the decisions won't. When you have success, it then seems to become common place that you're expected to get more and they look at coaches who've improved clubs for awards like this instead. In fairness to Saints fans, I guess they had these frustrations with Kristian Woolf, when other coaches would take out the award yet not win as much (or nothing at all). I've actually just checked and the last 4 coaches of the year have been Lam (CC winner), Peet (CC winner), McNamara (LLS winner) and Lam (LLS winner) and that's at a time when Saints hoovered up Grand Final after Grand Final and then Wigan won everything bar (domestically) the CC last year. It won't help that the award is given out before the Grand Final has been played out I suppose.
