| Guys, i dont want to sound a doom monger but you wont get much more out of him than what you saw before he was put on his backside. The most we can hope for is 10/15 minutes of impact each half. The Burgess brothers are a spent force and they have all been on the decline for years, performance wise George more than Sam and Tom. Does anybody honestly think he would be back over here if he could still cut it in the NRL? I have been warning about people going over the top about him since we signed him. Im not saying he wont be useful if managed correctly and he stays injury free but i dont think you will ever see marquee player type performances from him.

I wouldn’t write him off just yet but he looked in shocking shape for a marquee signing, he was on his knees after the first tackle (missed tackle as well) however even if he doesn’t do particularly well I think we’ll be fine. Bryne and Havard will step up into first team regulars (Bryne probably is already)

| It was disappointing but he hasn’t had any pre season games and was injured. The blame for his selection should be at the door of Lam rather than his own. Having said that if Bullocks attitude was better perhaps he gets picked and Burgess has an extra week to get fit.
Let’s just see how the season develops before we start having him as a prime target. It’s not his fault he was offered marquee money so to use that against him is ridiculous to be quite frank.

| Wow. Like someone said, he looked like Johnny Vegas when he played for Saints.
I’d play Rushton, Havard or Kilner in place of him, he needs at least 3 games under his belt before he comes back into the first team.

| Typical early seasons judgments, players are world beaters or ready for the scrap heap. There's no option of giving them time.

Fully agree in most cases in normal circumstances but that wasn’t normal last night. If it wasn’t 100% down to the injury then people would rightfully be extremely concerned, he was that far off the pace. Four missed tackles in 15 minutes and two carries.
Fingers crossed he has a couple of weeks off and he’s 100% and then he comes back in and smashes it.

He was so far off the pace last night the only player I’ve seen put in a similar performance was Andy Powell who I deem the worst rugby league player I’ve ever seen. Whoever is in charge of the conditioning at Wigan needs a word with the self because that was horrendous. If you’re a professional athlete you should be keeping your fitness up to a certain standard anyway. I’ve seen hung over players dragged out of bed on a Saturday morning, smoke 10 cigs on the touchline before kick off still do more in a game. Jesus wept.
I have every faith he will get better.

| That wont be solved in two weeks. 6-8 weeks minimum of intensive, personalised 1-1 training is needed. And frankly I'm starting to think that training should come from outside of the club. If there's an injury rest it or fix it - Lam saying we'll manage it doesn't sound great.
Incredible to think of the pre season interviews with George and Sam claiming this is the fittest he's ever been!
The only positive is the reality check has come early and we won in spite of it. Hopefully he'll be feeling a little embarrassed about being put on his backside by BMM and by all the fans who couldnt believe how bad he was. He cost us 8 game points but thankfully not any points on the table.

True usually, but he was remarkably poor. I'll bet there were amateur props in the stands who would have put in a better showing than George Burgess. The coaches shouldn't have put him out there.

| He wouldn't be the first NRL forward to think he only had to turn up in SL to smash it. Danny Buderus said that SL wasn't too far behind the NRL in terms of physicality, but the message doesn't always seem to get through.
I'm determined to try and be positive this season, but that was a worryingly ineffective show from a guy who was being hailed one of the best props in the world. Our young lads tangled with the Wire pack far more effectively.
None of them are match-fit yet, but GB looked so far off the pace that it was baffling given he's just had an off-season to at least get reasonably fit.
On one hand, I hope the hip story is true and it's just that he's had a knock. Either way, he needs to get his act together very, very quickly.

| Lam quoted as saying they knew about the injury he was carrying prior to the game. Really calls into question the justification on selecting him in the first place.
It also puts those eager to criticise and write him off back in their box.

I still remember Craig Smith in his first match and his first season, took a while to get fit and look the player he was in the NRL but probably an unfair comparison as Smith had a serious ankle injury before he arrived.
Will need to work himself back into the team like everyone else but that might not be easy.

That everyone in the rugby world knew about bar your club obviously. You only needed to read the rabbitohs forums to see he hardly ever trained due to his hips

I disagree. Granted they have a few special players but over a 25 playing squad. Nah, our youth smashes all over them. Go on their forum, quite a few were predicting them to be 6th to 8th in the final table standings (and that was before Thursdays game). One one predicted Wire doing the treble and that was Rubber Duckie but he can be forgiven as he's a bit of a numpty.
