| Someone mentioned on the VT that it would be a good idea to have the following double sculpture, Martin Offiah & Don Fox.
Both on bended knees / crouched, but for emotions on completely different ends of the spectrum.
THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY.
Must admit, as it's meant to be a "Wembley statue" I can't think of anything better.

In all honesty because I did not see Neil Fox play I am biased towards players of my own era, if older fans would rate Neil Fox up with the ones I said then that's fair enough, I can't argue.

I made a post about this on the Wire board, I am not keen on having one of Don Fox after he missed the kick. He was a great player that has got remembered for that moment which is not really fair, it must have haunted him for his whole career and I'm not sure its appropriate to make that moment the image for which he is captured into stone.
It would be like saying the statue is going to be of Shaun Edwards but the image will be him getting sent off for high tackling Clyde.

But surely the double statue would resonate the "complete feelings" of what it means for every player who's appeared in a Rugby League Challenge Cup Final at Wembley? The fact both are situated in an very simlar stance would make it even more symbolic when placed side by side.

The agony and the ecstacy. I like it! That epitomises RL at its best. No other sport creates such strong emotions. This option also avoids any particular club bias because it is about the symbolism of the agony and ecstacy rather than a focus on a particular player and his achievements that we would all fail to agree on.

| The Offiah picture would make an awesome statue.
Still think it should be Hanley though.

I never saw Jim Sullivan play ,but Ive read and I heard lots of stories from people who did.For the reason you put forward I would prefer a heritage panel to give an input too

Better to be rememembered than forgotten though Sal.......
I doubt they would do a statue of Fox doing a drop kick and have a ball dangling away at a right angle and then have the inscription " He's a poor lad "
Done as many have said with him down on one knee and a fitting inscription would be a great gesture. The inscription could mention how the wakey fans chanted his name at the wembley homecoming and held banners up begging him not to retire.
In fact The statue may go some way to lessen the damage done by Eddie warings ridiculous comment

| The RFL have added another 3 names to the statue list. One of them being Eric Ashton - who in my opinion should have been on the original list infront of people like Johnathon Davies. His playing career both for club and country stands out above most of the others. He was the first person to win the CC at Wembley as a player, a coach and a chairman. He was the first RL player to be awarded an MBE too.

| I have been thinking long and hard about who out of the 10 i would pick..............but have to say i love the 'agony & ecstacy' that for me sums up the whole idea. Only resevation would be Don Fox's thoughts?

Boston must have been one hell of a player if you rate him higher than Hanley, Rogues.
I unfortunately never saw Boston grace the field (my biggest Wigan related disappointment). But I did Hanley, and I rate him as the best British player I've seen.

yes rogues and when he died when the tributes came in I remember his family saying he carried that missed conversion for the rest of his life .He was never allowed to go anywhere without someone bringing it up.As you know he was also a very good player too and that incident overshadowed his whole career. His family also intimated that it could have contributed to the condition which he died from.I would think if Don Fox was selected to be the statue from that picture they wouls ask his family for permission

Agree, because they were two players who could play superbly well in different positions. Both played in major finals in three different positions.
Brian Bevan and Tommy Voll were both great wingers, but that's all they were, Billy B and Murph were outstanding RL players.

Would love to have Boston and Murphy playing this Sat against Australia, throw in Brian McTigue and Dick Huddart and we would win with 40 !!!!
