| was impressed by Ganson.
the amount of trying to milk penalties for lying on , by both sides, could have turned into "The Steve Ganson Show"........instead, he shouted at the player to stop moaning and get up and play the ball.......which made a flowing game.
only thing i wasnt impressed with, was him not having a word with the catalan player who went down holding his head like he had been hit by mike tyson after Coley slapped him ........looked like a wendy baller.......no place for it in Rugby League

I can just see you going berserk in your living room, as usual more interested in Wigan losing than your own team winning - hence you come rushing onto the Wigan board to post, instead of your own.
Hope it's capped your weekend nicely.

| I always say you know the refs had a good game when you dont notice him - you either notice him because hes giving too many penalties or you notice him because hes ignoring everything.
I didnt even realise Ganson was reffing today untill I read this thread.

| Difference is, in the Wire-Huddersfield, Ganson was whistle happy, but for both sides, as for some reason, it seemed as if he was trying to lay down some kind of marker. Ganson was poor today and did possibly influence the outcome of the game. He denied Catalans what was perfectly fine try in a crucial part of the game. How you can say that O'Laughlin didn't lead with the knee's is ridiculous, as he clearly came in late with the knee's. Yes, perhaps Catalans' penalty count would have been higher, but so would yours.

Are you seriously saying that Ganson was worth 44 points today?
Which 'perfectly' good try was denied? The winger well offside and within 10m, or the forward pass one?

I'm not saying Ganson was worth 44 points at all, but that try that he called a forward pass and was also going to call a double movement (neither would have been correct), would have brought Catalans to within 6 points. All I'm saying is, the decisions cost Catalans a lot more than they did you.

Sadly, I can see this thread and maybe a couple of others being locked shortly.
All it's boiling down to is the usual wa***rs whining because today didn't go according to the script they'd fooled themselves into expecting.
If anyone is seriously saying that Wigan weren't 200% the better side today, and that the referee was the difference, they are so stupid or warped, or both, that they're not even worth entertaining.

But, it was forward. (Just cause Wiggy said it didn't doesn't make it so, until the third camera angle when he agreed it was).
It was as forward as Lima's at Wembley.
Had it been a legitimate pass then I agree it wasn't a double movement.
Catalans got away with as much (if not more) than Wigan did tonight.

| It's now half time at the replay, and here's my assessment thus far:
First Catalan try denied perfectly fairly. Stacul was well offside. No issue with that decision at all. Even the King of the Wig-Wearing Muppets admitted that "to the letter of the law" (:lolicon_smile.gif it wasn't a try.
Not long after that we got the ball-strip on George Carmont, the elbow to O'Loughlin's head and the flop by Henderson on Pat Richards - all unpunished by Ganson.
The second French 'try' was clearly forward. Even Hemmings, despite his embarrassingly obvious disappointment, admitted it (though the third showing which he mentioned didn't show that it was any more forward than the first one did, so I wonder if someone had a word in his ear - i.e. "Try not to make your prejudice too obvious, you f*****g clown!"icon_wink.gif
Just before half-time we had the swinging arm from Sa. Which went unpunished.
At this stage it appears that the official is actually doing a lot more for Catalan than he is for Wigan.

| Second half.
The Catalan player fumbles the ball over the dead-ball line. No controversy. Drop-out.
Wigan's next try is chalked off. No real complaint, though it could have been deemed that both the Dragon's players who were 'impeded' actually tacked the wrong men (one of them certainly did). It's consistent with the general clamping down on the use of dummy runners that seems to be happening whenever the video ref is present.

| Now close to the end of the game, and the referee finally makes two mistakes that favour Wigan. The penalty for the ball-steal and the forward pass to O'Carroll, which goes unnoticed. Yet at this stage, the score is 38-0. I'm sure those decisions made a big, big difference.
Anyway, a couple of minutes later Wigan are penalised ridiculously for driving a man into touch. Even Warrington employee Brian Carney admits that the ref got it wrong.
I am still waiting for the deluge of pro-Wigan decisions that took this game away unfairly from the Dragons.

| Now it's over, a few final thoughts.
The commentary was the least professional I've heard in the Sky era. The Club Call is little more than a gimmick. It is certainly not so big an issue that it's more important than what's happening on the field of play. You could have been forgiven at some points in the second half for thinking there wasn't a match on.
As for Stevo's main reason why the French lost so heavily - they were tired. Perhaps they ought to take that up with the Catalan fitness conditioner. Or maybe even Trent Robinson.

To be fair you can understand his frustration. Trent did not complain about individual decisions costing them a result, he clearly admits that we were the better side. He does however moan about the state of the ruck. Now I prefer a flowing game that we had today but Gansons 'performance' could not have been more inconsistant with his 'performance' at Warrington last week. How can Trent coach his players to control the ruck when he has no idea what kind of decisions the ref is going to make. Ganson has gone from one extreme to another within a week IMO.
Trent will probably be fined for his actions but I totally agree with him on this one. It won't change as long as that idiot is in charge of the refs either.
Just look to the NRL (as you do) and the refs are far from perfect, they make many errors in judgement just as everyone does in that split second. BUT, the refs are always constant in their control of the ruck, players seem to know what is acceptable and the game is allowed to flow. I honestly couldn't care if the tacklers had to get straigh off the man, or the tacklers could hold the attacker down for 10 seconds before getting off.... all I ask for is decisions which do not change from week to week, it makes a joke of our great game.
As an example of what needs to be done, just look at the obstruction calls this season. Pretty much every single try with an attacked running into an active defender has been disallowed. Everyone is now clear where to stand on the decision and there can be no complaints because it has been that way all season. Now I do have a slight problem with this because had Richards been stopped before the try line after the 'obstruction' then surely Ganson would not have given the pen, surely that kind of obstruction in the middle of the field would go unoticed, even Eddie pointed one out in normal play and it was not seen by Ganson, BUT, had it resulted in a try then it would have been disallowed and resulted in the penalty. At least with this decision we all know the rule though and all of those leading to tries have been chalked off and at least this shows consistancy for once, I wish we could see it across the board though.

| The anti-Wigan hype has now reached ludicrous proportions.
We are being criticised because a referee made the correct decisions (to Wigan's benefit, though he also ignored many infringements committed by Catalans) but probably wouldn't have made the correct decisions if they hadn't been for Wigan's benefit and therefore to be fair he should have got the decisions wrong.

Hang on ... they did. What they didn't bargain for was two TV replays the same night, which showed how one-sided the refereeing display actually wasn't.

| Yes Wigan appear to get the rub of the green sometimes and I aint a lover of Ganson but lets face facts Wigan played far better than Catalan and you only need to look at the final score to see who dominated the game.
