Although he no longer beats a man, that is true, he is generally up there with the attacking play as when Leeds came to visit the other week. He scored a try and had a hand in a few more. He'll never out run anyone but he's fast enough to play the third halfback role that Simmons has given him very effectively.

To be fair to him, on Sunday he was playing with a deadleg.

You can't help but admire Saints. They're a successful club that has produced some great players.

They're obviously not as successful as Wigan and they haven't produced as many top players but still they try their best! Ha ha.

Top club, decent fans and our biggest rivals. It's horrible to lose to them but it at least doesn't leave you with a sickly underachieving feeling because at least you know you've been beaten by a top side.

One of the reasons Saints have been beat in the last four Grand Finals is that Leeds and Wigan "have done a number" on Wellens.

Basically they have managed, through good kicking games to get the ball behind him and make him turn. He doesn't then have the speed to return the kick any distance.

He's still quite dangerous if you give him the ball on the full coming forward, but turn him and he has major problems.

Next year I would expect him to be replaced by Hohia as I feel that will give Saints a better balanced attack despite his occasional defensive howlers.

Most saints fans would agree with that sentiment I think. I think wello might see his career out playing in the backrow where his pace off the mark wont be as much of an issue

There is definately more of a mutual respect between the clubs these days, I respect St Helens as a club and there history, and I think its vice versa. Added to that it is still THE DERBY in Super League. A lot of this respect for eachother is probably because both clubs dislike Wire an awful lot these days with there lack of history, arrogance and general "attitude" of there club over the last few seasons.

Also dont kid yourselves about Wellens, he may have lost pace but he's still the best positional full back in SL by a mile and still pops up with important tries.

They really have become a different breed.

Appeal to the site admins, if someone accused me of being a racist on a public forum I would be less than pleased and I would most certainly do something about it.

Leeds fans are the biggest dummy spitters in RL! When we beat them last year in the final eliminator not one of them we saw gave Wigan credit, they were very quick to try and kick off etc.

Whilst the mutual respect thing is nice, we can't be having this in derby week.

Back to the love-in, I said on another thread recently that Saints fans showed real class with the way they handled the GF defeat (and the resurgence of Wigan generally). Real class, which is a massive contrast with the laughable Wolfs and with the childish behaviour of the Whinos in recent days. When you add in the way Saints have gone about their business this year despite the disruption of playing at Widnes, bringing through yet more quality young players, it is all the more impressive. Dire may have made a lot of the early running in SL, but it wouldn't surprise me if (assuming we make it to the GF) our opponents were Saints.
