McClennan wasn't the most popular person amongst the players and coaches over the last year or so at Leeds, and if you believe the rumours he was the reason Cummins and Poching chose to leave. McDermott was always going to be coach after McClennan left at the end of next season anyway. He's very highly rated by GH and the Leeds players from the work he did as Tony Smith's assistant. It's a gamble, but we've still got a decent squad and some cap space so its not the end of the world as some are suggesting.

Any word on who'll be assisting McDermott next year?

After Leeds' dismal showing last season (by their standards) and getting rid of McClennan perhaps they'll lose this arrogant, disrespectful streak of theirs. Here's hoping and good luck to McDermott.

I certainly think there is a lot more to McClennan leaving than is being let on. Leeds have been poor this season and there has been a lot of talk about discontent amongst the players and backroom staff. In addition I always thought that it was a little strange McDermott leaving London just to be an assistant coach.

The only thing I can see of any substance is that Bluey is the carer for his wife who is very ill. He said after a few weeks on the beach he could see it was time to head home to Auckland where they have a house on the beach. He said he thought long and hard about his one year extention and it wasn't any easy call to make. It would seem with a bit of distance from the job Bluey had a change of heart. I can understand that. Brain mac was gonna get the job anyway.

After the tripe he sprouted after the game at the DW i'm glad to see the back of him. He comes across as an arrogant moron at times who can't see past the end of his nose.

I'm also glad to see Brian McDermott get a go at a big club. He has had to put up with some big playing staff cuts at Quins and has done a very good job imo.

When Jamie Peacock's playing career ends, he can do it for England.

I believe that McLennan fell quite lucky in that he inherited a very good side with players such as McGuire, Burrow, Sinfield, Peacock etc who were at approaching or their peak.

The same thing happened to Millward at Saints and Dorahay and West at Wigan.

Great coaches change things and make things happen, Wayne Bennett being a prime example.

I suppose he got lucky when he won the tri-nations, and nilled Austrailia in the final in the process. Thats pretty great. He's the only coach to coach a team to back to back SL titles. He's also the only coach to coach a side to a WCC and a title win in the same season.

Say what you like about McClennan the person, but his record as a coach is top class wherever he's been.

Not yet. But, Hetherington has flown to Austrailia to look. Although he has said they're also searching the UK aswell.
