It's the right thing to do. You can't justify a quota spot for a squad player - especially when you have many young talents filtering through from our academy.

Fair play to the lad and all the best to him, he would be of benefit to most mid table clubs and certainly would be worth a quota spot, but perhaps not at a team challenging at the top of the table.

He seems a likeable bloke but as others have said it would be crazy to use one of our quota spots on a player who was in real terms very unlikely to get more than a handful of games next year and those games could have been at the expense of young British talent who I have no doubt could do a similar if not better job than Phelps (Marsh/Charnley etc).

All the best to him I predict he will probably return to the second string in Australia, getting the odd game in the NRL here and there, which is a shame but there is no room for sentiment.

With Phelps on his way out and freeing up a quota spot does anyone think the club have an overseas player in mind or will this simply leave them with more options than previously?
I know IL said they'd no one in mind but that was a few weeks ago.
Things change quickly in the off season re transfers so what's the opinion on a further overseas slot available?

shame hes not english..hes a quality squad player IMO but like others have said you cant spend a quota spot on just a squad player.

I'd like to see one more good overseas signing, giving us strength in depth - preferably in the hooker or in the halves.

I see Orfords requested a release from Bradford, be interesting to see who lines up in the halves next year for Bradford, and more so whether there's any substance to the Pryce or Burrow rumors.

Mark Aston's turned down Harlequins to continue at Sheffield - is there a more loyal player/coach in RL today? He must have been there over 25 years.

I also happen to think he is an excellent coach as well.

Would have loved to see him give Sl a shot to be honest.

I'd be shocked if Bradford managed to pull in Pryce or Burrow - they would look very good next season if they did manage to snare those two.

In other news - Joe Westerman signings for Hull FC. Personally, I think he's had one great season and then looked very ordinary - Richie Myler-esque IMO.

I think he's a risk at the price they've paid for him, although it is nice for once to see a club make some money from a player they've brought through. This is his chance to make the step up and prove he's got what it takes at a slightly higher level, no offence meant to Cas.

Cas need to sell him to fund a new ground?

If Owen fully recovers from his badly broken leg next year I'd take him off Cas no sweat. He is for me the best of the four named above.

Cas need their stadium big time. I honestly feel that who ever is furthest down the road at building a stadium out of Cas and Wakey will keep their place in SL, with the furthest behind bowing out of the competition. Salford for me are safe because of their location, although they could do with getting a move in regards to their new stadium as well.

The RFL stating that one Super League team will definitely be relegated was ludicrous.
