| Leigh, the town of six fingered inbreds. Anyone with a child playing amateur RL in Wigan will know what a fantastic experience it is to travel into the land that time forgot to see their kid playing in front of the worst specimens the human race could ever wish to develop.
The sort of place in which you will hear mums with more facial hair than Jamie Jones Buchannan encouraging their sons to 'kill the pie eating b*st*rds' (this is at under 7s and 8s by the way).
Little wonder that by the time they reach the age of 13-14 most Leigh team fall by the wayside. Once they develop, their cavemanlike postures slow them down, probably due to the friction from their knuckles dragging along the ground.
Super League would be wasted on them. Thankfully the powers that be have more sense (Please God, let me be right).

I recon if rugby league got more violent it’d be more popular.
Just look at what publicity football hooligans got for their sport. Any publicity is good publicity.

Cringeworthy. That line was cringeworthy in the 1980's let alone the 21st century.
Imagine what people tuning in to RL for the first team might think when they hear something like that.
Not doing their Super League hopes any favours at all'"
Sorry mate, as you know I've been watching Leigh for nearly 20 years and I've never heard that song being sung - I've only ever heard "I'd rather be a pasty than a pie" as was sung tonight. I was stood with a group of crust munchers (a couple of whom post on here) and they took it in the manner that it was intended.
I've only missed one England game in this hemisphere in the past 5 years and, despite the club-centric chants from any number of clubs, tonight's crowd was actually more supportive of the England side than I've heard in a long, long time.

I was there last year, but don't remember hearing said chant? Not that i'm calling you a liar, I just didn't hear them myself. The thing that sticks out for me is that 90% of the fans wear their club colours. Why not wear England colours? It isn't a club game. Fair enough not everyone can afford an England RL top & a club Jersey, but, if you go into ASDA they have a wide range of St George motiff clothing which would have looked better than the mish-mash of colours we had yesterday.

| In football, you don't see people turning up in club colours, they all wear England shirts. I'd like to think if the RFL tried to promote the wearing of England gear, it'd be harder for people to distinguish the clubs they each support, so hopefully would get behind England. If there's a group of Wire or Saints fans and they see a group of Wigan fans sat not so far away, they're going to chant anti-Wigan songs, the same with us, we'd sing anti-Wire songs like we did at Murrayfield Magic.

Both fair points. Think it can be related to the lack of games to be honest as people think what's the point of buying a shirt if England are only going to play at home once a year, and I think the same could be said as to why so few people take the international scene seriously.
Look at how many games the football side play and how many the RL side do, and I think that begins to answer why there's an entirely different culture. That said, I'd rather the inter-club banter of RL internationals than the all-out xenophobia of the football!

| I was stood next to the Leigh supporters singing Pasty NOT Paki! I would rather they had joined together in England songs but the small minded heads have such a huge chip on their shoulders about Wigan that they couldn't resist the anti Wigan chants. They seemed more interested in the anti Wigan chants than the game! Athough I have to say that they were reasonably good humoured but it was quite unnecessary and tainted what was otherwise a good afternoon watching an excellent looking England team made up of a good cross section from SL & NRL.
Leigh now have a good ground. They now just need some good RL supporters!

Agreed.
They will never ever be in SL and rightly so. They are a disgrace to the game.

| I think the anti-Wigan stuff(which is being taken out of proportion) was because of the easyness of the games, against Aus and NZ you don't hear much like that. Also, i don't see anything wrong in wearing your home club colours, that's what makes RL better than other sports isn't it?

| I just don't see the point of it when you're supposed to be there to support one individual team, and like I said, I think it would eliminate the automatic segregation that happens , ie. Club fans automatically sitting near each other then singing club songs.

I still have vivid memories of our Challenge Cup fixture at their place in 2002. If memory serves, the Leigh fans did another good job of rolling back the years to the bad old days of the 1970s by actually throwing bottles at the Wigan players after they'd scored.
And they wonder why people don't take them seriously.

They are just as bad at the U7 away games as well, no respect, just all line up on along the touchline as a group and abuse and try to intimidate the home team - never a truer word spoken by the OP

Yep I was there too and remember that, a ehole of a ground and a mostly moronic fanbase.......I've never been back.
Give them a new ground, but it's the same fans, just older and they have bred some more ........ just goes to show you can't polish a turd
