Anyone who can't see how Noble played a key roll in the development of the likes of Sam, Joel, McIllorum, Hansen, Mossop et all really needs to have a minute.

Yes, Madge has helped them kick on (and in what style) but Noble laid the groundwork with several of these players and Brown would have been dealt with the right way as well. Not made out to be a superstar by Millward & certainly never played @ 13.

I know someone from inside the Wigan club who spoke to brown recently (within the last two months) and Brown told him that he would love to come back to Wigan.

My Reason for not wanting Robinson near the club came from a person who at the time was very high up in the Wigan club and i have no reason to doubt what he told me.

I would have Brown back tomorrow never forget the Good Friday game where he played on 1 leg for most of the game.

I think that was always the case, he was misused and a clean break was the best option.

But were now a forgiving club under IL.

I'm sure Kevin Brown would love to come back to wigan in fact i'm sure its even in print in one of my rugby books that he loves wigan and would love to return one day under the right circumstances next time. Also, from what I have read from him, is at that the time he was gutted to leave Wigan but the move to the giants has been right in that he was allowed to play without any pressure and regain his confidence.

Sadly for Brown he was young lad when the club was in trauma. He lost his mentor (Mike Greg) who had brought him through the academy system. He lost the "father figures" in the team, the likes of Faz, O'connor, Craig Smith etc (the Wigan way)
He got lumbered with a "coach" Millward (the less said the better)

I honestly believe if Brian Noble had been appointed coach straight after the sad departure of Mike Greg, then Kev Brown would now be an important member of the Wigan squad.

Kevin Brown, like many Wigan youngsters, was a talented lad who loved playing for Wigan. He got a shot in the first team under Mike Gregory and excelled - on his debut I think he got a hat trick against Halifax IIRC. He did a good job in the centres or at stand off. I'm not sure what his best position was.

However it all went down hill from Millward onwards. He openly talks about it in a book (match of my life I think it was called) that Millward talked him up as the next GB stand-off & as the pressure mounted, with no real leaders, Brown took the flack and had his confidence destroyed. A real shame, but we've moved on now. He would do a good job under MaGuire I am sure, but it's too late IMO.

I will always remember his dad telling me & my dad once that against Huddersfield away once when Kevin was playing in the centres he was up against Stanley Gene. Now Gene had a field day that day and ran absolutely riot. Andy Farrell had shouted & screamed at Kevin Brown under the posts & Farrell was in his face that much the lad said he felt like walking off the pitch. Now people always believe that seeing a captain shout & scream at a player is a 'true captain'. I disagree with this theory entirely since being told this story & reading about what other players have had to say about Faz's famous bollockings. What makes a great captain is not what they say it's what they do. Farrell coming back on against Leeds with his nose shattered for me is true leadership. It's an act of inspiration that lifts your team mates & consolidates your position as captain. So that's part of the reason I stick up for Lockers a lot. Sure he doesn't bollock people like Farrell used to, but I don't want to see that. It's what he does on the field whether it's setting up a try for someone, putting in a big shot or whatever. It's those acts that make a great captain.
