Do you prefer Andy Coley?

Personally, I'm not expecting a miracle and him to suddenly be the Fielden of old - but what I do expect is a vast improvement. IMO he is still a good solid player for us, does his work, albeit not spectacularly but he does have an affect through his defense, but I'm not naive enough to believe that his 'defense' is more than enough reason to retain him beyond 2010.

Yes on performance, but I understand your value for money comment. However, when I said the same about Liam Colbon a year and a half ago most people didn't want to know about "value for money"

in your opinion! for £250, 000 a year he was ineffective. Coley knocked on first touch of the game and missed a tackle which led to a try. In the last quarter though he was solid and his quick hands assisted in the try at the very end (as did Fieldens!) See i can report without bias.

For a start off this magic £250k, where exactly does that come from?????? As far as I know a players playing contract isn't in the public domain, and neither is our completed salary cap liability form, so I wish people wouldn't keep pulling numbers out of thin air. And if you really do feel he's on that money and should perform like a star world class player, then to be perfectly honest you make any judgement of him not living up to your expectations null and void as it seems to completely cloud any performance rating you might give him. It's like he has a permanent -8 out of 10 that he has to carry into a game for some people.

whatever money he's on, he's on, give it a rest as his contract is up at the end of the season and i'm sure the 250k magic number will disappear if he remains at the club. Maybe then people will actually start to judge the guy fairly on his performances and not apply a massive negative because of any wages. And some of the crap that's written about the guy is uncalled for, like questioning his commitment and professionalism - this is a man who was preapared to not be paid for his work until the following year to help the club out, or does everybody forget the the detail of our 'breaking the spirit of the cap'?

Can we maybe have a season where we judge a player on how he plays, not on his wages, gingerness, ockerness, fatness, nobbyness, etc etc.

It is fact that he is currently Wigan's top earner , maybe the sum has been exagerated. Why are you so defensive anyway - related??

Oh how very droll. It's quite obvious you'll never change your mind. Why am I so defensive? I just don't like seeing one of our players (you know the guys on the team we supposedly support) being beaten repeatedly with a stick and not being given credit for what he does do well and right. I've done the same for Roberts, Riddell, Phelps, and i'd do the same for any of our players who are being singled out in a way that I see as unfair.

no he failed to pinch them off my neice - she was tougher than him! sorry couldn't resist. Lets hope you do defend them all - time will tell. I actually agree that the amount of stick some of the players are given on this board is unfair, especially the personal stuff and I usually champion the underdog (Coley, Roberts, Phelps) but I cant seem to do this with Fielden. I suppose its the "in camp" stories that I have heard. Anyway new season, new set of resolutions - "must try better" , Fielden on the pitch and my attitude towards him.

I definitely do and will defend all players. There's nothing wrong with saying and feeling Stu should do better, i'll totally accept that and i'd imagine he would to as he's more than capable of being up there with the best. I only have a problem when people start saying he's poor, mediocre etc, even if Stu is performing at 50% of his best he's still better than many props in the league and that's why I back him up.

And I try not to fall out with anybody, life's too short and you're quite right it's only a game and we're on the same side, plus life would be very dull if we all felt the same way all the time. And if I did i'm sure Andeyd would revoke my happy clappy status, and I can't be having that

Of course we can. I found it very strange that our left hand side defense today was very poor, when in previous years that has been the better.
We are still scoring more tries down our left, I wonder if our specccies now believe that Goulding is better than Ainscough?
