Dont know whether to laugh or cry.....for a half back sam has awesome defence.....you could see it again last night, in on every tackle and rarely misses!! Hes a damn site more sound in defence than Mr Myler and a number of halfs in the league!!

He didn't mean Tomkins' defence he meant what will we say to defend him if he plays poorly.

He won't be any worse than Pryce or Long and Burrow have done in the past and playing him this young will only serve us well for the future!

I don't think he will play poorly against France of NZ but he may play bad against the aussies but only because we will get dominated all game.

Even if he doesn't have at great series, one thing's for sure if picked he will play more than 8 seconds against the Aussies at the JJB/DW and not let his team mates down unlike someone else I could mention?

We are talking now not earlier in the season and i dont remember Myler playing in them at all come to think of it.

I was at the game and the Welsh gave a good account of themselves. But god help us if Smith puts Myler out against the Australians or N.Z they will rip us apart.

At the end of the day there's no comparison as Tomkins has played in the big games and Myler hasn't. It would be ok to say Tomkins bottled in x amount of finals if you weren’t using this as an excuse to big up a player who hasn’t even played in any?

Tomkins has worked hard for all the accolades he's got this season, he's worked hard to get the YP award, he's worked hard to get in the dream team! He's made that much of an impression in his debut season that even the most biased international coach in the game had to pick him!

Myler on the other hand has had it all given 2 him on a plate! He got an international call up playing NL1 rugby over players like Eastmond & Brough who were showing more promise week in week out in a higher league? How does that work?

He plays ok for half a season and for the rest of the time both he and his team have been poor but yet he gets a call up again over players like Ratchford who has out played him in the same team week after week? What must Ratchford be thinking?

People are on Mylers back because he's done sweet fa to earn the chances he's been given!

I'd not seen anything from the kid to suggest he's even in the same league as the good youngsters Tomkins, Eastmond, Westerman & Shenton.

Nah cause he's a knob-splat much like that player you have in your username, a player who although pretty gifted spent much of his time trying to be Billy Big Balls yet frequently ended up on the losing side!

The more I think about Tomkins the more I feel England need an organising halfback/hooker to get the pack going forward, the opposition on the back foot and give him space to run into. It says to me that a McGuire/Tomkins combo won't work, then again where is this elusive organiser?

The only way I could see it working, is for the likes of Newton to come in at hooker.

That’s why regardless of form it was a stupid, stupid idea to leave Burrow out as he’s the closest thing we have to an organising SH.

It’s a sad indictment of the game today when we are looking at either Myler or Tomkins to lead us round the park. We can’t fall back on the older players like Burrow, Maguire & Pryce or even retired players like Long as they’ve all been tested at this level and found wanting.

Australia on the other hand could pick a combo of about 6 or 7 players that would all walk into the current England side. With this not being a knock out tournament as well it means if we do get lucky in the one off game we won’t get that lucky again.

If Tomkins doesn't play and Myler does, it will prove once and for all that International RL is pointless.

Myler is in there because he agreed to join Warrington, no other reason.

As are other Wire players Westwood, Higham and Bridge.

Its utterly pathetic.

Higham has been out all season and hasn't managed to play well since. Bridge, imo he should be no where near an international shirt on current form. Westwood, maybe, if there are no other battering rams available, but there are, and the alternative battering rams can also play decent footy.

In the second row ahead of Westwood imo would be:

-Ellis
-Burgess (ok, hes played prop all year, but I don't think there is space for him as anything other than back-up behind Graham, Morley, Peacock and LMS)
-Westerman (not going to be our loose, but I see no reason why he couldn't do a job in the second row)
-JJB

In fact, I'd rather see Keith Senior in the second row than Westwood, I just don't rate the bloke.

I can't believe the squad Smith has picked. Maybe he has picked it because he knows the strengths and weaknesses of the Wire players better, maybe he ahs picked it out of some stupid promise he has made, maybe he has picked it to make his Wire players (who surely must be his priority now) better players and give Wire a better chance of breaking the top 2 next year.

Which ever reason it is, it's wrong.

I think McGuire is mature enough to organise now and let Tomkins loose abit wider, but at least you were thinking until the last line!
