Saints were poor last Thursday and looked very tired after a tough game at Headingley 4 days earlier. We'll see how close our next meeting is at Edinburgh. I get the feeling from your POV, it won't be pretty.
Quote ="thepriestman85"Edwards isn't a miracle worker but as a man motivator who doesn’t pull any punches he must be able to get better performances out of Lockers, Tomkins, Fielden & Riddell.'"
Isn't Noble supposed to be a brilliant motivator?
Whilst I think Noble isn't doing a great job for Wigan at the minute, I think some of you guys over-estimate how good your team is. You're a 4th placed side at best. Your pack is very average and without a quality prop or two, you won't compete with Saints and Leeds for the trophies.

My point was players like Fielden turn up for one or two games a season then are pi$$ poor for all other games. As much as I hate to admit it a tired Saints pack is still better than most in SL and we stood toe to toe with them? Where is this spirit against a poor Hudds pack for example containing superstars like Carbtree, Mason & Moore? Or against and injury ravaged Wakey side?
Quote Isn't Noble supposed to be a brilliant motivator? '"
If he was then I’m sure we shouldn’t be having the consistency issues we’ve had since he joined us. If he could motivate his team every week like he does when we face Leeds then we wouldn’t be in the situation we currently find ourselves in. Every year since he’s been here we’ve gone from major highs to despair in the space of seven days never mind weeks! I’ve yet to see what is a capable Wigan side back a good victory up with another one straight after.

The thing is you say we are a fourth placed side but we aren’t playing like one nor are we near that position. We are a far better team that can play a couple of levels above what we doing now. There are far to many Wigan players underperforming and Noble has to take the blame for this.

| Noble is definitely under-achieving, no doubt about it. He has done every season at Wigan in terms of league position, but has been saved by a dramatic late surge in the Play Offs.
My main point, is that whilst he's not doing a great job, Shaun Edwards isn't a going to work a miracle and get you fighting for the title, not with these set of players. Shaun Edwards isn't even a proven coach, so I'd be aiming higher than to be honest.

I'd also say that a coach relies a little on the bloke whose job they've taken, in that they're stuck with their team for a while. It's hard to change the squad dynamic quickly in the salary cap era.
As usual we'll make a late surge, but i'd rather peak in September than in August like your lot

That wouldn't have been such a bad thing IMO.
As for Edwards, personally I think he was overrated.

I don't rate him. Yes he's scored a few tries, but anyone on the end of the balls/kicks he's had would have scored. Apart from a break down the wing at Leeds when he fended off Donald, which to be fair was impressive, I haven't seen him beat a man. Eddy keeps comparing him to Robinson which is just laughable really.

MC Hammer? Seriously, I know my opinion on Edwards won't match the consensus, but I reckon he was carried by Gregory. Different time and place and he would have looked ordinary.
As for Graham Lowe, yeah I know it ain't gonna happen, but the best coach we ever had, bar none.

I got called a troll, I assumed it was the Edwards comment, seeing as this thread is specifically about bringing him back to coach. Am I not allowed to post my opinions here? What do you mean, "busted"?

I think it's a refreshing and different perspective, which doesn't always seem to be welcomed on this board. Ainscough has the makings of a classy winger, but is cack under the high ball and needs to work on positioning. In my opinion, his enthusiasm and commitment make him stand out but we should be wary of believing Eddies orgasmic analysis of Ainscough just yet. Just look at Brown, Robinson, Aspinwall, Goulding etc...

Every young player has his frailties as we all know and eddie does hype up youngsters too much at times but we can't deny Ainscough as had a great start to his Wigan career. The major thing that impresses me about him is his ability to get over an error, move on and kick on to a better preformence or follow up game.
Sam Tomkins is still the real young star of this side though but we need to protect him.

I agree about perspectives, i'm new to these boards as well and opinions are welcomed . I was giving my opinion which i'm sure given the posters opinions he expected to receive a reply , and as for Ainscough i've seen enough at reserve level to be confident in him , and seems to be proving him self at 1st team for me.
what was your opinion of Brian Carney under the high ball.

Oh, don't get me wrong i think aniscough has everything it takes to be a top class winger. Carney under the high ball was similarly shaky and in the long run i think ainy has potential to be better than Carney, given that he's already probably played more games of league than Carney did in his whole career.
I imagine robinson was pretty poor under the high ball but the high kick to the corner was not used as much when Jason was playing - wingers like Ryan Hall, Gardener and Paddy have added this to the art of being a winger

| If teams do kick to him then they better have a good kick chase he's not that bad under the high ball .
Brian carney was the same if he caught it clean then the kick chase would have to be good as they new what damage Brian could cause with his returns.
I thought Gardener looked looked a little bit rattled by Ainscough on thursday .

| Edwards would be the ideal man to take over at the moment.
Reservations about him not being a proven RL coach are misplaced IMO. He is the kind of person who would make sure he was technically up to date and is a perfectionist.
He would have the rest of this season to get up to speed because lets face it we are going nowhere in 2009, there is no relegation so there is no risk to have him learn on the job but I don't even think it would take him that long anyway such is the nature of the man to want to be the best. It's not as if he stopped watching or lost interest in the game since he became an RU coach.
Even if he stuck with Noble's game plans I am sure he would be more successful as he would address the basic problems we all point out week-in and week-out.
Whoever signs the players, Noble or IL our side is not that bad on paper and needs someone to get it to play to it's potential. I think Edwards could do this.
Unfortunately it won't happen as he happy where he is.
Dave

| Lets offer him the job and put him to the test, when he was rumoured to be wanted when we were bottom of SL he said something similar to "please dont offer it me" because he wouldn't be able to turn it down.
With Edwards it is almost becoming a now or never situation because imo if he makes a success of the Lions gig, the England head coach will be his imo and by that point, he will be able to name his price in RU and may never return.
