Do Bilko’s stats go back to 1946 to say 1965?
I’d love too see the averages post war and in the early 60’s when we had a great team.

Great times which will be never be repeated at the souless Whelans Folly!'"
I think that you may have misinterpreted my post
I’ve got good and bad memories at both grounds
I’ve got more good times at CP than the JJB but when we had bad times at CP they were abysmal truely abysmal.
From 1967 to 1983 we were poor to awful for most seasons winning the occasional Lancashire Cup.
At the JJB we’ve had far more better years than bad. As I said even in our worst year at the JJB it was one of my favourite seasons of all time. A year of great atmosphere and a year when the fans were as one.
As I said previously for me the 1995 team are incomparable but the 2012 performances when we nowt but the hubcap were fantastic but unfortunately we failed in the most important games.
Sport reflects life. You have good and bad times. If you are lucky you have more good than bad. Just accept the good times whenever they land

| Quote ="Grimmy"You do realise that, no matter how much you bang on about the good old days with every single post, we still won't have a time machine?'"
Its not about banging on about the old days, but the future of the game as the statisics show that the game is no longer attracting supporters as it was prior to the mid nighties when it attracted many of the top union players from this country and all over the world.
The simple truth is that there are now too many clubs here in the North of England for the declining number of people now watching it and the number of quality top class players in it.
Why do you think that the club has gone into rebranding, when they look at the average attendances between 2015 and 2019.
We are now going into a new season but unlike Football where the clubs are all playing their home games on their own grounds, our game is again having to put up with the nonsense of clubs playing home games on other clubs grounds because Sky Sports do not or will not move their equipment around to all grounds. A decision which could have a further detrimental effect on the attendances when the game returns to normal, especially here in Wigan where if it is anything like last year, our team will be playing all their home games away.
It time that you and the handful of your cronies on this website stopped trying to ridicule other supporters comments and opinions and started to listen to what other supporters have to say!
Its called having respect for others which sadly is no longer taught in schools!

And you can sure tell those stuck in the nostalgic selective memory trip.
By the way, I was a fan when we were at CP. Not that that matters one iota, we could go and say those of us who weren’t fans when we were at Springfield Park - I mean, where you?
You can sure tell.

So you’re banging on about CP when really you mean the future. Which is it? Our future is at the DW. That’s fact. Our past is at CP. Thats also fact. You can’t rally on about your selective nostalgia trip then try to make out you’re on about the future. You’re gonna have to nail your flag to the mast.
Quote The simple truth is that there are now too many clubs here in the North of England for the declining number of people now watching it and the number of quality top class players in it.'"
Define top class. There’s an abundance of top class English players. There’s more playing in the NRL now than there has been for decades. There are too many clubs in RL comfortable and have no intention or interest in building better. That’s the real truth.
Quote Why do you think that the club has gone into rebranding, when they look at the average attendances between 2015 and 2019.'"
To keep up with modern times. Another issue in RL is we harp on about the past so much we actually end up staying there. Times move on. The sport has to keep up.

How will how the games being played now have a detrimental effect on crowds when they’re allowed back at their respective grounds? Answer - it won’t.

No, the harsh truth is is that you just don’t like anyone disagreeing with what you say or joining you on your selective nostalgic trip. Response disagreeing with what your saying aren’t disrespectful.
No answer to any points against you though?

Quote ="Itchy Arsenal"I had the best and worst of times at CP but I wouldn’t trade from 1985 to 1995 for any other period. The greatest team I suspect we’ve ever had was 1995 by a country mile. There are players in that team who wouldn’t get a game today such as Offiah and Skerrett.
My first full season asa ST holder was 1967 when Boston Ashton and McTigue were well past their best together with pretty much the rest of the squad. I think we came 16th in the league.
What are the average attendances for 2015 to 2019 when we had 3 GF apeearances and a CC final?
I suspect it’s downhill albeit nowhere near as bad as the seasons that preceded the relegation year and the years pre the gang of 4.
I don’t look back through rose tinted glasses but I’d take CP over the JJB everyday of the week even though it included a period of total dross from 1967 to pretty much 1983 when things started to change for the better.
I went for years almost as a “duty” but when the good times finally arrived we had unbelievable success and I saw some of the all time greats play in the cherry and white.
My favourite season at the JJB was when we escaped relegation when all seemed lost. Some great nights when I never knew what to expect. I’d genuinely put some of those nights on a par with the Manly game at CP. Fantastic atmosphere and the fans at times seemed to drag the team to victory'"
IA.
If you go to Bilkos site wigan.rlfans.com/readarticle.php?article_id=2560 you can see on the top right a link to "view previous seasons"
From that you can go to the various seasons and the individual attendances are shown. From those pages you can skip forward or back from "targets" near the top of the page.
You'd have to work out the average from those, however I've already done it.
2015 - 13,362
2016 - 13,499
2017 - 13,648
2018 - 11,528
2019 - 11,700
2020 - 12,222

| Crowds fell off a cliff around that time because of the changes to the format and I know IL was dead against the top 8s structure.
The constant changing of the rules does nothing to keep fans engaged. The regular season games become more and more worthless the more sides can qualify for the playoffs and the easier it is to finish lower down the table and win the big prize.
We need to stick to a system (top 5 from 12 for me) for several seasons rather tham changing every 2 or 3 years when the tv deal changes.

Agree, when they moved to "super 8's" it was a disaster. I remember trying to have a discussion with Gary Hetherington (he was the proposer of that system) at an academy game at Orrell. Ian Lenagan was totally against it.
I asked him how clubs were meant to sell season tickets when for a third of the season they wouldn't know who or when they were laying. How could fans book holidays when they could miss two or even three games?
Needless to say he wouldn't or couldn't answer my questions!!!!!
I think it was 2015 when they brought that system in, which is when the attendances started to drop, coincidence? I don't think so.

We left Central Park because the then board of directors under the Chairmanship of Jack Robinson sold the ground to Tesco which was a bad mistake, especially when it turned out that 79% of our own "loyal" shareholders then sold out to Whelan for a personal profit instead of supporting the board in finding a new staduium of its own which the majority of supporters wanted. But thanks to Wigan Council supporting Whelan it never happen and we ended uo playing in a poor design of a Football Stadium with a capacity too large for both clubs hence the name of Whelans Folly! The Council did not make the same mistake with the building of the Stadium for Leigh Centuriuns.
Happy now?
Now, can you and your cronies now explain why the attendances as shown by myself and Rogues Gallery which show that between between 2015 and 2019 have gone on more or less a downward path with no indication of any substancial incease in the future.
Perhaps the reason the club has gone on a rebranding exercise?
Time that some on here took off the cherry and white (or should I say black) tinted glasses and faced reality of what has happened since 1996 -1999 to the games most well known Rugby League Club.

I've just explained in my previous the reason for the declining attendances from 2015. The super 8's was the major factor and it wasn't just at Wigan, it was throughout Rugby League.
Fans didn't want to buy season tickets when they didn't know who, where or when their team would be playing for a big part of the season (7 games)

Still not admitting it was the “Fabulous Four’s” financial irresponsibility that led us to that huh?
And your version isn’t true is it? Fact is DW offered to invest in CP if we let Latics rent from us. We refused. DW then went and built JJB and we were up the proverbial without a paddle, facing moving to BOLTON to play. That is until the new board came in and actually worked with DW and convinced him to let us in. CP was sold as we had to, not because we wanted to. Why did we have to?
The Fab 4.
Quote Now, can you and your cronies now explain why the attendances as shown by myself and Rogues Gallery which show that between between 2015 and 2019 have gone on more or less a downward path with no indication of any substancial incease in the future.'"
I don’t know the answer to that, hence why I’ve never offered one. However the harsh truth you keep ignoring attendances at DW are higher than that of CP, including between the years you’ve mentioned. So equally, can you answer why that is?
Quote Perhaps the reason the club has gone on a rebranding exercise?

Partially. More to do with the fact we need to be brought into the 21st century, modernise and not be stuck in the past. Ironically when they first released the badge and the new branding I was against it however having actually thought about it and the reasoning behind it I’m fully behind it.
We had a decline during those years, a decline that lasted until 2008 I’d say. It happens to clubs, Liverpool, Man Utd, Everton, Saints, Leeds. All had a decline of sorts. What matters is how we responded to it. And the success we’ve had and enjoyed since then is remarkable. We’re never going to win the CC 8 times on the bounce again. We’re never going to dominate English/World RL as we once did but you can bet your bottom dollar generally we’ll be fighting for (and winning) trophies come seasons end consistently. That’s a successful period. This time done financially responsibly with an eye on the future both money wise and playing staff wise.
But yeah, the Fab 4 and all that.

Time that some on here took off the cherry and white (or should I say black) tinted glasses and faced reality of what has happened since 1996 -1999 to the games most well known Rugby League Club.'"
But why did the board sell to Tesco? Could it have been because the gang of four that you praise so much had continued to operate under Maurice's business plan of "spend what you want and win at Wembley"? I've mentioned it before, but on the Up n Under documentary he is told we don't have a pot to urinate in and then signs Offiah for 400k.
The reality of what happened between those seasons is that we lost to Salford, didn't win the league and the house of cards that the gang of four had built on pillars of sand crumbled instantly.
Crowds have dropped from 2015 because, as me and Rogues have already said, the structure of the game has killed the importance of games and fans no longer wish to buy a ST and miss half the season.
Central Park was great but if we stayed there how much would it have cost to renevate it, or would it now look like Wheldon Rd or Belle Vue? Imagine if DW had bought it, Latics made the PL and we were kicked out of CP!!!! IMAGINE IF THAT HAPPENED!!!

| Also imagine if we had lost one of those touch and go cup games such as Saints in 94 or Hull away? The 95 season you talk about (which had smaller crowds than our worst season since 1981) would never have happened.

You got any figures? I think they drifted a bit at most clubs but Wigan's plummeted.
