MM dropped Finch into the deepend against Wire, and I don't think it really paid off at the time.'"
Theres a massive difference between playing in the halves and playing in the back row. Finch had to come in and organise things for the rest of the team and it obviously didnt work, Hock has to come in and do his own job without really worrying about what everyone else is doing.
Also Finch was coming back from a serious career threatening injury into a league he has never played before. Hock has spent two years filled with regret and determination to get back out there again and make up for his mistake, I dont think Hock and Finch's situation should be compared at all.

I agree with this Finch was coming back from injury into a new team new league new set up and was coming into a playmakers role where an enormous amount of expectation was on his shoulders. Hock is not coming back from injury, he knows the team knows the players knows he will be expected to do the hard work up front both in attack and defence.
I expect a solid game from him off the bench with not too much fancy offloading, he will get better and better as games go on and come the GF he will be a potent attacking weapon up front.

Its very easy to compare them really, especially in terms of fitness. Both are great players in their own right albeit in different positions but both are players coming back into the team for an important game after an extended lay off. Its an easy comparison really. Of course there will be more pressure on Finch to perform given his important role but probably didn't have anywhere near the pressure from fans, media etc that Hock will have for obvious reasons.
The point is Finch took quite a lot of time to bed in a pivotal role and clearly wasn't match fit to begin with whereas Hock will likely be the same in a less pressured position (all positions are important I know) and will more than likely just be told to pile it in, don't do anything silly and try and hurt them in every tackle, something which I'm sure he will take great pleasure in for about 20 mins or so and see how he goes.

| The main thing for me is he just has to earn his place first. People have said we should play him against Hudds to get a few extra on the gate, he should only play if he is good enough and has been working hard enough to play.
When he does eventually play I expect a devastating runner with improved defence but a few errors...

was thinking something similar but would also add lead with the elbow as well, his time out of the game seems to have tinted many sets of spectacles, hope there won't be too many disappointment's when the heavens don't part and chorus's of angels don't sing

| like someone said earlier, MM doesnt seem the type of guy to fall for the media hype, just because gaz hock is available doesnt mean gaz hock will be in the 17, huddersfield will be a tough game, especially tough for someone who hasnt played a competitive match for such a long time, but i guess we will soon find out

Good article, interesting to see they are still talking about him as a Prop, to be honest I thought Madge had said otherwise, but given it is a direct quote he has had a change of heart or I just made it up that he had dispelled him packing down up front. Personally glad he is being considered as a Prop, I felt he was always better suited to it long term.

| I'd expect Gaz to take each game as it comes, improving week by week, aiming to peak going into the play offs. Also getting the biggest(legal) buzz of his life as he lifts the SuperLeague trophy.

Eagerly anticipating his return. Gaz Hock is one of the most naturally talented players at the club. One of the best Wigan has produced and will be a tremendous asset coming into the 'business end of the season'.
I don't think I can recall a stronger pack at Wigan. Certainly in the last six years I can't.

And don't forget Stuart Fielden! As most of us were saying in November, once we knew Fielden and Coley were still on board and Lima and Hoffman had signed, we were going to have a formidable pack, especially with the return of Hock.
The good thing is even if we have a couple of injuries we can still have a massive unit. Wigan have yet to play this season with their first choice pack/team ( ie with Hock and Fielden included with the current forwards). It really is a very exciting prospect - let's hope they are all (or almost all) fit and firing on July 23rd!
