| Quote ="Itchy Arsenal"Shouldn't we reduce penalty kicks to one point then? Why 2 points for a penalty kick?'"
The penalty is a punishment for an infringement of the rules, You either loose ground or concede points when you break the rules. The attacking team also can’t control where on the field they get one, in the same way that you try and take the ball nearer the posts when you score. The risk of a 2 point drop goal is we turn in RU where kicking becomes the norm. Teams drive down the middle and bang a drop goal over, get the ball back and repeat
The scoring is fine as it is.

| I dont see what problem the 2 point DG is solving. Like Grimmy says it potential encourages more negative play.
I can't see it being used much though. I would be surprised. seems a bit like the 20/40 .

Why not yellow card every third offence for offside irrespective who commit's it or when?
Surely this would be better than 2 points for penalty that may not be converted?
There is as much kicking in RL as there is in RU. Union are just better at it.
You'd never never get a RL game where you see 5 drives and an aimless kick would repeated from the 1st minute until the 80th?
There aren't any players in SL who can drop goals with any certainty- no one has a record of doing this.

| Quote ="Grimmy"Why? Both teams took the two points on offer whenever the had a vaguely kickable penalty. I'm struggling to believe they wouldn't therefore go for a two point drop goal to level the game with this rule. We know Powell can kick them from that range.'"
Do you mean the penalties in the 40th minute to take the lead, the penalty to make the game all square and the penalty in the 79th minute in an attempt to win the game? They weren't just kickable they were major turning points of the game.
No one in SL can drop goals with any regularity. No one in SL can kick a ball a decent length or accuracy with consistency. Kicking is a lost skill. It isn't prized by any player or coach. If it was every team would have at least one and preferably two.
Powell???? Sorry Grimmy you've lost me there. Sneyd is the only player with any sort of consistency in converting drop goals and a few of those have been golden point conversions so even he doesn't drop goals with regularity in normal game time.

Do you mean third in short succession or third in the game? Assuming you mean third in short succession - we're not far off that anyway. Four offsides in short succession will see a player in the bin in addition to a penalty.

I just checked the stats, there are literally twice as many kicks in general play in RU than there are in RL.

Lee Briers, Pat Richards, Sean Long, Paul Deacon, Andy Farrell to name a few. Didn't Briers kick five DGs in a game or something daft? More recently Sam Powell is a good drop goal kicker.

Yes I mean those penalties. Why would they take them but you don't think they would take a 2 point drop goal to level it? Yes Powell, he won a game v Hull KR last year with a 40 metre drop goal. He kicked one the following week against Leeds as well but can't remember how far out that one was.

Where did you get the stats from Grimmy? Double would really be surprising to me

Anyone else think that with this rule, we would have got a load of long range drop goal attempts throughout the second half instead of the classic we did get?'"
No.
The game was tight throughout, any score would have changed the dynamic and added to the drama.
As for a two point score, I’m sure Wigan fans would have been delighted if Hardaker had got two points for kicking that last minute goal.

England RU last three games - combined 237 kicks

Wigan RL last three games we have stats for (they haven't kept them up to date for the last few weeks of the year for whatever reason) - combined 140 kicks.
So OK a bit less than double but still a lot more in RU'"
Genuinely surprised how many kicks are made in union particularly by the wingers.
I must fall asleep during the game and miss 50% of the kicks

| Perhaps we could take a leaf out of the "Its a knock out" book of rules and have a special joker card that can be played by the water carrier where scores are worth twice their normal value for the period when the card is in play.

| And the game once more takes another step to being 3 separate sports playing under the name rugby league. SL rules, NRL rules and international rules. It’s ridiculous. The IRFL need to be the ones deciding on any rule changes. I can’t keep up with it all. And if I can’t, why or how would a casual sports fan?

| Perhaps we should take all conversions from the same central point like grid iron football. I have always thought that we are reducing the value of tries scored out wide by making the conversion more difficult.

Quite like the touchline conversion finish myself. E.g Farrell v Bradford 2000. The extra points in NFL still has a lot of moving parts which make it not a certainty, not so in a rugby league kick from under the sticks.
As we're talking suggestions - I would like some variant on the option to 'go for it' - score a try in one play and get four points instead of the usual two for a conversion.

I have no problem with that it would simply mean going far enough back to give yourself time. If you mean starting from 10 meters away then perhaps we should have a line of frwards in front.

It's the Auzzie way, they don't care what anyone outside their borders think.
To them it's their sport to do what they please with. I highly doubt there was any mention of the chance these changes may upset fans in northern England.
