Why? We got half a dozen excellent games from him in 3 and a half years. Given his reputation when he came it's unlikely we've been paying him peanuts. There's a lot of rose tinted memories going on at the moment because of a handful of games in the early part of 2010.

Its not rose-tinted at all. He was crap first season, so was Pat. Then he was excellent, so was Pat. Then he had a serious injury. True the money side does come into it, but its a persons career as a top athlete we are talking about, and it was cut short as he was settling in. I just feel that your comments are a little callous.

I agree that "value for money" statements are distasteful. Don't forget that Amos at FB seemed to be settling into the team and a position that suited him and played some fantastic games. However, whilst playing for Wigan he has suffered an injury which at best is severely career limiting and could be career ending from the general posts.

Who is going to take on his contract after Wigan? It's not as if he will have a great future career based on u20's games.

Now, if this were a player Wigan had signed and barely played without an injury sustained playing for Wigan were to have Value for Money in a discussion then I wouldn't have the same complaint.

I hope that Amos is able to play again and with the same flair we briefly saw, if only to allow him to sign for another team and keep a career going after injury at Wigan.

Well I'm really going to upset the outrage junkies by saying that overall I think he's been a crapola signing.

The view is based on actual performance overall. Any other suggestions for how we view how a player has performed if it's not on actual performance? Better tell Bilko his MoM awards are just hindsight.



I was very happy when we signed him, but he's not delivered save those half a dozen games.

To be fair he hasn't delivered because he's had a long term injury - and he started his career at wigan carrying an injury. When he was fully fit he was almost unstoppable at times from fb. Somebody compared him to ferguson and I think that is pretty accurate.

You don't get to see many players with that type of ability it's a real shame that injury prevented him showing more of it.

We have been extremely fortunate to have someone like sam to replace him.

It does show how fragile a proff sportsmans career can be though - don't begrudge him a penny of his salary.

As you say unfortunately the post in the Wakey game in 2010 stopped us seeing if he could replicate that form he showed in 5 or 6 games. However, he's played 55 times so far for us and given he's denying the rumours may play again.

Awful news - i thought once he got his fitness back he'd be back in contention, gutted his career had to end at Wigan. All the best for the future Amos.

Any chance that this will be his last season and not with immediate effect? Plenty of optimism surrounding the numbr of forwards Wigan have but the backline could be ravaged by a couple of injuries.

At the risk of not sounding too senstive, does this free up salary cap space mid-season?

If so, I wonder if that's relevant to anything?

Before I'm accused of being a mercenary, I also feel sorry for Amos - he didn't come to Wigan to play in junior teams and early in 2010 he showed glimpses of the great player he once was, but injury is an unfortunate reality of RL and it can happen to any player at any time. The Wigan club, however, will go on - games need to be won, squads must be built and losses replaced.

So my question still stands - does anyone know whether this will free up cap space mid-season or will Amo's contract and all the costs built into it be defined as continuing to the end of 2012?

If it's done properly and he's retiring because of injury, we should get his salary for the season.

I hope we use it to get a prop forward. We could really do with one.

I don't use twitter so have no idea whether people can change their profile name (or whatever they call it on twitter) but the two accounts mentioned on here by Bilko as having denied it and dave 1612 as having confirmed it have two different names @Mossy_bra and @mossy_80. Either could be a fake account. I'll wait for an official announcement before I start wondering how we will spend his cap space.

His twitter account is the Mossy_bra one and both announcements mentioned are on there. A few hours apart, I might add so maybe he wanted to tell his team mates before the world got hold of it.
