We have a choice of:
Lockyer
Orford
Kimmorley
Finch
Slighty the rest ain't going to risk not having the opportunity to play SofO and National Team.
Props - The list continues to get shorter, but I do believe we already have one signed up on the dotted line IMO

Orford - Desperatley wants to stay at Manly and is willing to take a big pay cut to stay so that doesn't thrill me with confindence that he wants to play for us.
Kimmorley - Probably wouldn't come due to Canterbury ripping it up this year, decent player mind.
Lockyer - I would love to have him here, play him inside Lockers and Gleeson though. It depends on Lockyer.
Finch - Not overly convinced, he has talent but it applying it and doing it when the going gets tough. He can be flashy but he seems touch and go we need someone like Barrett who doesn't pack in and keeps at them all game someone who works hard for the team. If Finch came over I would suspect it because he wanted a retirement/holiday/pi55 up. And play well every other game.
Add to those Cooper Cronk and Anasta.
Over all I would go for Cronk.

He was introduced to the Queensland sqaud this year, why in the love of god would you even consist a move over here? I love to see him play for us, but Ben Roberts of the Bulldogs, would be a far better signing for us over him.
Anasta, I mentioned a while back, he'd rip SL apart, but I don't think he'll leave, with the club like it is, depending on the coach they bring in will depend who stays and goes with them, as it's the same with us

Anasta Has crocked himself. Fractured an ankle i think, he is out for the rest of the season.
Just checked, it was a dislocation not a fracture

Thing is he has Prince and Thurston to contend with. Thurston is around the same age as Cronk, I would use Barrett/Langer as an example to Cronk to say you can play superleague and go back and play State of Origin again.
Failing that I bet Anasta feels lower than whale shi'ite at the min with not being picked for Aus and NSW, Roosters are crap and he has just been ruled out for the season. I bet he wants to get the hell outa there so strike while the iron is hot IL and offer him an escape.
After all he is only 27 and is Greek so wouldn't count on the overseas quota and we could get 5 years out of him.

There is no chance he is going to play rep anytime soon with Prince, Lockyer and Thurston all above him in the pecking order. He's already done everything with Melbourne so offer him a big deal and you never know, there is no doubt he would be perfect for us.
I disagree Roberts would be a better signing, he would be a good signing but not as good as Cronk IMO. He isn't the organising half we need to partner Sam, he is also playing off the back of a very good set of forwards and Brett Kimmorley. Whereas Cronk does play on the back of a dominant pack but is the main guy for Melbourne when it comes to leading the team around the field
Anasta would be a good signing but would depend on who the Roosters bring in as coach

I can't remember how the overseas trained quota works but could this leave us with something like...
1. Phelps (cheap and adequate, quota)
2. Roberts (stuck with him, quota)
3. Gleeson
4. Carmont (overseas trained but not on the quota?)
5. Richards (overseas trained? quota or irish?)
6. Anasta (overseas trained but not quota?)
7. Tomkins
8. Fielden
9. Riddell (quota)
10. Palea'aesina (quota?)
11. Hock
12. Tomkins
13. O'Loughlin
14. Leuluai (overseas trained/quota?)
15. Webb (quota)
16. Precott/O'Carroll (with one on loan)
17. Mossop
19. Ainscough (on cover for another year)
with Goulding, Pryce, McIlorum, Flanagan/Farrell also on loan?

Edited if IL splashes the cash. There is no point buying crap and being cheap when re building a club. If we bought those players we would be top of the league.

| I like the idea of us buying Carl Webb as much I enjoyed the idea of Roberts, Smith, Phelps and Riddell.
Its just whether they will pull their fingers out if they come over and if truth be told I think Webb would be in the same group as the names few aussies IMO.
If we are to rebuild we cant do it on the cheap neither can we do it with average aussies/kiwis/english or Wigan lads.
Also if I were IL I would see whether Ellis is enjoying it at Wests because if he weren't settling I would have him on the next flight home and he can be 12 next year.

Anasta is a 6 or 13. Not a scrum half. Secondly, he did his knee in yesterday.
As for Cronk

Did you watch Webb against the Roosters yesterday? Average.
Secondly, he was playing in the second row.

| If we are to rebuild we need a superstar player to kickstart the recruitment and it should be Lockyer.
Once we have Lockyer we could then make an offer for LMS/Morley.
From what O heard about Riddells Mrs not fitting in and them going home and Newton coming back I would like that to happen, he could be good player for us and maybe next year he will but I would prefer to have Newton.

| Everyone keeps talking about this 6 and 7 we'll going to sign. I'd be very very shocked if we do.
Two props are a must this year, sod the 6/7, get two fighty, body smashing props in. Sort that front pack out first
8 - Fielden
9 - Riddell
10 - New Prop (N. Cayless type)
11 - Hock
12 - O'Loughlin
13 - J. Tomkins
Bench
14 - Feka
15 - Macca
16 - New Prop (C. Webb/L. Burgess type)
17 - Mossop
If we do have an £££ then of course bring a new 6 or 7 in, but if we don't have enoug, please DO NOT sign an average aussie..... PLEASE IL... Wait until Fielden as gone and put a real decent effort into signing a W/C HB/SH wit all the ££ we'd have available.
Next year I'd be happy with
1. Phelps - One on One off Rad's as sold it to me, he's staying till end of next year.
2. Roberts
3. Gleeson
4. Carmont - Depending on injuries throughout the rest of this year.
5. Richards
6. S. Tomkins
7. Tommy - If we don't sign anyone, is there anyone who we could have on loan? to cover us till the exit of Fielden. Someone from the NRL club, we'll make a link with for example?
8 to 13 same as above.
With out a doubt end of tis year.
TWO props are a must!!
Aswell as a new Coach, nothing against Noble, I just believe is buzz as worn off.

Say it like it's a bad thing. Why should we have to look to Aus for a house prop? Why not look here?
Surely its worth twisting Warrington's arm with a cheeky bid for Morley? Or tempting Quins with a cash move for LMS? We can find the prop's we need in SL IMHO.
It's in the 6/7 role(s) that we have to look to Australia*. Save the quota spot for that.
*With the exemption of Sam Tomkins

Don't we currently have 5 quota players?
T. Smith
Bailey
Phelps
Roberts
Riddell
5 is the max for this year and next.
So say goodbye to Bailey and T. Smith, we could sign two Aussie/NZ props (N. Cayless & C. Webb)?
Then an SL based 6/7 on loan for 2010
