| Listen, if we go on to win 6 trophies over the next 3 years I will be as delighted as any of you. I genuinely wish MM all the best and have absolutely no opinion about him as a person or a coach.
However, to appoint a 35 year old rookie coach with no experience of coaching a first team, to become the coach of Wigan RL, in a competition that he has no experience in, is a MASSIVE gamble, and one I am pretty sure I would not have taken.
IL will have to live or fall by this decision.
As a Wigan supporter I hope he lives with it, but if he fails then the blame is purely on his shoulders.

Depends how you look at it... He has been assistant coach with a better side in a stronger league, and been to more grand finals in the last four years than we have in the last 10............ Stop being so bloody negative... Or is it that you say this in the hope that you can say "I told you so" ?

A certain Maurice Lindsay spent a over decade making massive gambles, that'll do for me.
Try hard but fail? - No problem with that whatsoever.
Hesitate and do Nowt? - Wigan RL fans won't stand for it.

It's one thing being involved it's a completely different scenario when the buck stops with you. RL is no different to business in general in this respect.
It's a gamble. Of course I hope it pays off, but as I said, one that I wouldn't have made personally.
Much in the same way that I wouldn't bet £1000 on Wigan to do the double next year, but I would be delighted if it came off.
It's not about being negative, it's about stating opinion.

Thought we were talking about Wigan Chairmen here??????
You have an obvious affection for a certain classy Australian 80's stand off?
Well what do you have to say about his predecessor Mark Cannon?
He had decent skill, scored some quality tries. Should we have re-recruited Mark Cannon instead of going for BK? Why didn't the Wigan club?
How MANY more years would you have actually given Brian Noble at trophy free / No plan B / woeful preseason preperation / poor starts Wigan?

| I must admit I have been curious about the whole new coach thing, a part of me actually wanted the season to end as soon as possible just so I would know what was going to happen for 2010. Now we have a new coach in place I want some signings.
Surely I cant wait another 12 months for news like this!!

I love this "or else" attitude you've adopted in recent times. You either think you've got some kind of hold over the guy, or you think you represent some vast army of fans who you can mobilise to vote with their feet. At this moment in time, I'd say that neither of those could be further from the truth.
But here's a more serious thought for you.
It's extremely churlish not to give credit when credit is due. By all means be unimpressed by other things IL has done or not done, but you're firmly on your own in disliking this latest move. Even the other website, notoriously skeptical compared to this one, is offering fulsome praise for it.
It's even more churlish than that when you're refusing to give approval purely because you have an image of being an IL-doubter to maintain and/or can't face admitting that on this occasion you might have got it wrong in a big way.

| After listening to both interviews i can say that I’m going into next season with renewed optimism.
Maguire looks like he’s excited about the role and meeting his new players and he also sounds like he’s up for the challenge!
I can’t wait to see what effect he has on the team and the players and to see what new ideas he comes up with to get the best out of our talented but inconsistent squad.
Another point to mention as well is that they are referring to Wane as the lead assistant coach? Does this mean there will be another assistant coach as well as him?
Also I’d much prefer a coach who has served a long apprenticeship at a massive club like Melbourne rather than someone who has come through the lower leagues like Millward did with Leigh and Morgan with Toulouse.
Very interesting and exciting times ahead imo.
Now for the James Graham signing. ………….

Interesting bit in that article about more established coaches applying for the job coupled with the interview posted by Rogues where he states we could have easily offered it to two current super league coaches. Seems like there were plenty willing candidates. Think we've got the best one. Let's hope IL's gamble pays off.

| Both video interviews were excellent, especially IL's for me, it's clear that the ethos around the club is going to be that just being one of the best 4 clubs in the competitions entered won't suffice for us, which is what the fans of any club want to hear.
I'd imagine it's only natural for a new coach to want to put their own slant on the team, but I'm not expecting any headline signings. IL has spoken at length in the past that we'll be going with what we've got, something that Maguire will have spoken to him about.

| i for one am chuffed with the appointment, apparently he's dead keen on fitness and conditioning as well as having some fresh and exciting ideas tactically. Hopefully will start the sason with a fitter Feka and a bigger more aggressive Fielden. I just hope hes given the time. Hes already being touted as wigans saviour on here, a more consistent wigan team is what we all want and need, the silverware will follow in time. A three year contract is signed, lets give him the time to mould HIS team and the players gel to HIS ways.

I don't want this to turn into an argument, but what on earth are you on about?
Hold over him? Vote with feet? Where on earth did you conjur that up from?
I am expressing my opinion on a forum.
Got it wrong? I have only TODAY given my opinion. Why on earth would I "admit" that I "got it wrong" all of a couple of hours after first posting?
While we are on the subject, what is it exactly that I "got wrong".
It is impossible to get an opinion wrong.
If you think that appointing a 35 year old with no first grade coaching experience as coach of the biggest RL club side in the world , is not a gamble, then you and I have very different views of what a gamble is.

I feel the same, it isn't about being negative at all, just our concerns but in no way does it mean I'm not happy that Maguire is our coach as he does seem to have an awful lot of respect from Oz which can't be a bad thing at all, the only concern is that he has very little experience in 1st team coaching. Let's hope he gets off to a bright start with success at Wigan.

| The appointment of any coach is a gamble. All we as fans can do is get behind him and the team by giving our full support.
By the sounds of things, interviews with the man himself, our chairman and recommendations by some of the best coaches in the World , we could be about to witness something special at Wigan in the next few seasons.
I for one can't wait.

Come on mate, it's not really fair to say no first grade coaching experience about a guy who's been assistant coach to Bellamy who admits Maguire has been very important to what they've achieved, and has even left him in charge when he had other commitments.
Yes it's a step up from Assistant to head coach, a step up that Bellamy feels he's more than ready for.
Be fair that's all i ask.
