I think the club will give him a month or so to decide what he wants to do and will back him in whatever decision he makes. He'd have to be very very strong mentally to go through it all again, for the fourth time.

I suspect he will make his decision based on medical advice. I do hope that he can be encouraged to go through the process again, even though there will be long dark days ahead. He is still young and hopefully he can recover and pull on that famous cherry and white shirt again next season. I am sure the club will do its utmost to support him to do so.

I’m sure he will give it a go unless the doctors highly advise against it. Whilst recovering he will still get paid what I guess is a decent wage by Wigan if he retires it’s the unknown although I would like to think the club will help him out.

If I were him I'd use this time whilst I was still being paid by Wigan to prepare to go into another line of work. If it's true that it's his fourth time one of his knee's has gone it just can't be good sense to continue. Important that the club stand by him and support him in whatever he does.

It's two on the right knee and two on the left I believe.

How unfortunate for the guy, really dissapointed. As an oppossition supporter, I have to be honest I genuinly think this lad is the best winger in super league for years, and such a shame he can not get a long run at it.

Very, very sad indeed. Had the ability to be the best winger in the league but clearly his knees aren't up to it. The poor lad must be devastated.

Sad news, I know it won't be a popular comment but IL needs to release him from his contract so we can use his money on a prop, Find him a job behind the scenes and help him with his rehabilitation/physio etc, Also encourage him to go to college so he's got a fall back, It is selfish of fans to expect him to go round again and risk some long lasting damage just because he is their favourite player.

As ever with this it’s firstly just Manfredi who you think about. He must be beyond gutted and wondering where his career/life is heading. I’m sure the club will do their best by him.

You then think of the team. To have a back three all 6ft plus and so threatening was massive for the team. It really started to turn our season around and it was so exciting to think what they could produce long term. It’s a good opportunity for one of the other lads now but they’re not Dom Manfredi.

Fingers crossed his recovery goes smoothly this time.

Wigan will have insurance for career ending injuries etc to cover cost of his remaining contract

His salary cap value will count on Wigans books anyway this season.

Wigan will be doing everything they can to assist him in his rehabilitation, they always do.
Wigans education system behind the scenes is fantastic and he will have been given many opportunities to educate in other areas (believe he may be into HGV driving?).

Absolutely devastating for him. I know he will get the very best in terms of support from the club but he must be in a very dark place at this time. Has anyone ever been through such injuries and gone on to rebuild a career?

One helluva tough break - hope he gets the best treatment/help going forward.

So sad for the lad, I can't even begin to imagine how he is feeling. Such a nice kid as well.

Agreed he’s had it tough too.

I think Lomax and Currie "have only" done two. Still terrible.
I remember speaking to Jonny Lomaxs dad a while ago and asking why we're seeing so many of these injuries now. His theory was that the players are bulked up muscle wise but there's nothing that can be done to strengthen the ligaments. He likened it to an elastic band that just stretches and then snaps.

There’s something about Manfredi and Tom Johnstone’s style that I can’t really explain but that is similar and I guess puts huge pressure on their knees. They’re both really strong up top and both seem to have that ability to keep their legs driving when players are hanging off them. I guess that puts a lot of stress on your knees and both can’t stay clear of these problems.
