I dont agree at all against leeds we made mistake after mistake in our own 20 giving leeds free reign to score, we didnt do that last night

Against leeds we let a big lead slip and allowed them to control the 2nd hald, that didnt happen last night either in fact after about the 36th minute hullkr looked beaten and dejected, our defence was rock solid keepping out more that 30 + tackles in a row in the 2nd half with the only kr try being sams decision not to put it dead (at a time we were 20 odd points up)

We gave away far too many stupid peanaltys. HKR finished 7th for a reason. We would have lost last night against Saints or Leeds and we need to improve 50% to reach the GF.

Both attack and defense were great last night, imo. Discipline was better but still lots of room for improvement. If we can sort out the penalties we will be unbeatable. It seems we had spells last night were we defended umpteen sets of six without a mistake and I kept feeling, going on our previous form, that a penalty was only a matter of time, but instead we took them to the 5th tackle each time and forced them to kick.

Not really: Silverwood gave too many stupid penalties, for both sides. At least half of the 20-odd penalties shouldn't have been given.

Not at all - as I said, he was the same for both sides. For example, the two consecutive pens (Lockers & Riddell, I think) leading up to Dobson's kick at goal to make it 14-12 were both completely uncalled for, as were several where the markers were penalised for not being square despite not getting involved in the tackle.

But we gave the Ref the opportunity to peanalise us no matter what the Refs motive may be. Do that next week with Bentham in charge and were scuppered.

I thought we played well and had it not been for some dubious refereeing the margin would have been wider.

Hull kr scored two tries in two minutes in first half , after that they were never in the game.

I wouldnt call last nights display poor far from it actually.

Oh and yes i have followed up on the original comment stating we are improving. Hopefully we will reach the standard we set in the next couple of weeks.

I agree with him, it was great performance from a top team. If you'd said it was a performance slightly below what we are truly capable of, then maybe, you'd have a tad more agreement. The word "poor", even if it's used in comparison with Standards we have set, reduces your point a bit.

Having said that, I know what you mean and lets hope we can produce our very best in the next game.

I know what you're saying and certainly agree that penalties (and probably nothing else) will be the deciding factor, so we need to be a disciplined as possible rom here on in. Where we disagree is that if we DIDN'T give the ref reason to penalise, as in the examples given by Geoff above, what are we supposed to do aout it?

One other thing. I don't care if you're using the term comparitively, the word 'poor' has no place in any appraisal of last night. It was a thoroughly professional performance, good in attack (42 points for God's sake!) and especially in defence. In fact, after the opening 10 mins I'd go so far as to say that's the first defensive performance in a while that DOES compare to early season form!

We played a much better game plan this week. Last week I thought that Leeds did to us what we did to other teams earlier in the season and that was slow the PTB down and restrict Wigan to a long kicking game whilst Buderus commanded the ruck area and got Leeds on the front foot often and opened the game up for stronger attacking rugby in our own quarter.

Last night we effectively negated the attacking threats of Galea, Vella et al and sped up our gameplay around the ruck. I thought Riddell was impressive and McIlorum, despite a thread on here faulting him, played much more clinically. This pinned KR back and didn't let Dobson into the game much.

Our faults were our discipline which gave Hull KR most of their tries and field position but we defended better on our own line. We did have a spell however where we struggled to get out of our own half and looked increasingly desperate with Leuluai our main kicker and being pathetic at it yet again.

All in all an improved performance from last week and it will galvanise us going into next week but much, much more needs to be done because despite improving we were helped by a poor Hull KR side that was knackered.

Silverwood was being a pedantic little ar*e last night. Watch the game back and there are at least 4 penalties that were questionable to say the least. 2 of them gifted HKR some major field position ! How many times did the officials miss the kicker being taken out ? The officials had a shocker last night and could have caused a few rucks had the lads not kept their heads !

I thought that cosidering the massive pressure the team were under last night the performance was good. No injury concerns and no players cited which all adds to my confidence of a win against either Stains or the Whinos

The standard of refereeing in this country is diabolical right across the board, so nope. The only thing about Bentham is he tends to let a game flow a bit more. As long as we don't come across Terry Albert again I will be happy !

I agree completely. Refs can be a deciding factor in games and the standard is awful not helped by the even worse line people, thats why i raised the point about our poor record with penaltys and the fact that we have been targeted all season.

We were not the best in the first half and their first try was from inviting them back into the game trying to offload in the tackle from their kick off. I thought the half time score of 24-14 looked better for us then we were.

In the second half it was a top class performance. HKR had seven consecutive sets and didn't score. They had no moves that could break the defence down.
The only way through was from a kick.
The second half score of 18-4 to us didn't reflect how good the team was.

And more importantly, one the week after that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
