Sorry it wasn't directed at you, it's just this issue is one of my bug bears.
I love NRL head coaches, but realistically if they are successful you'll only get 2 seasons max out of them. Even if Lam pulls off the impossible, it will be a false dawn as he'll be snapped up ASAP.
I'd have loved to have seen us gamble on the potential Watson has shown and maybe get 5, 6 or even more years of stability with him.
In regards to Wire Vs Hull, I'd argue Wires academy and consistency sets them above FC. Hull could be huge tho.

Hull are a huge club IMO. I think a Jonh said it could be a stepping stone to then go to a club like Wigan, Saints, Wire etc but if Watson is successful at Hull, I just think he stays there because a successful Hull would pull in big crowds, certainly bigger than Warrington and Saints and the man who turned Hull in to a trophy winning side would be able to write his own cheques.
It’ll be interesting to see how he gets on if he goes there.

| Your big 4 in SL have consistently been proven to be Leeds, Saints, Wire and us.
That’s not debatable it’s fact.
They spend the most year in year out and the expectations are to win trophies year in year out.
I don’t think that is the case with Hull.
Only recently have they spent on a similar level to the 4 mentioned and I don’t think they are currently a club where if you don’t win a trophy in a season the fans start questioning your position.
They are a step up the ladder than Salford without doubt but I don’t see them currently as one of the big 4.
He may well take them to the next level and stay there for years. I hope he does as I think SL needs a strong Hull club.
If he does I’d be expecting him to be linked realistically to any of those mentioned above every time they are having a wobble.

You said you were struggling to think when it has worked, that's why I mentioned them. I'd take him over Lam for sure. He's earned a crack, we don't know whether he's capable of taking the next step or not. We already know that with Lam IMO, he has tried and failed to get it done in too many knockout games, which or course you get no major trophies without in our game.

I still think Lam deserves a chance be to take this team forward next year.
I may be in a minority but I see progression and improvement in our play.
Watson is going to a sleeping giant.
The fact is that Leeds, Wigan and Saints have all had coaching changes whilst Watson’s stock has been rising.
He hasn’t got any of the jobs.
Catalans or Hull (which it looks like he is joining) is a chance for him to show he can do it at a bigger club, but a club that doesn’t expect success.
He will have more pressure and a bigger budget along with bigger personalities to manage.

| Is he as good as people think? Only had to win 2 games to get to Wembley. Salford had a good season last year led by Jackson Hastings but they have massively failed in the league this year.

| Our NRL appointment didn`t fare too well although I for one was happy with the appointment.
We then went for Agar who let`s face it had not done a right lot at previous clubs nor was he anywhere near to being the fans choice.
But he is steadily building and who knows with the inclusion of Sean Long another who would not be at the top of my Christmas list.
We might see Leeds return to being a major player in SL once again.
It`s nice to get a name as your head coach but sometimes the less proven ones can deliver equally as good as Grimmy has already pointed out.

Long is an interesting one as, imo, he's not too dissimilar to Lam, or even another great HB - Andrew Johns.
All three were great players, experienced plenty of success and are quite well regarded as specialist coaches. The only issue is that all three, to varying degrees, were 'Jack the lad' types and I wouldn't want any of them to be the head coach of the team I support.
I know I've bagged Lam a bit, but I do actually think he's a decent technical coach. I'd be over the moon if he was just an assistant here - kinda like the NRL system with real quality coaches providing specialist coaching. We had that before with Deacon and Harris - just imagine Lam working under Wane btw.

| Spot on SP.
It`s how Lam and Wane could interact with both of them having their own way of doing things.
Get the balance right and it would be a scary but successful combination I`m sure.
Much should be said for having the right assistant to compliment the head coach.
Long as a character I personally would not want at the club unless he has changed his attitude which I`m sure Sinfield would know about much more than I do.

| From what I’ve read it basically sounds like he’s said the time isn’t right to move from the North West to Hull due to his children’s schooling but he says he’s ambitious and would eventually like to coach in the NRL. If Wigan or Wire went in for him it sounds like he’d take it IMO.

I was surprised Saints didn’t get him whilst they had the opportunity after JM left.
He seems destined for one of the big clubs and I suspect Saints won’t hesitate next time.

I think it's put the Hull one to bed...but as others have said, he's shown his head can be turned & I think it opens the door for Us/Wire/Saints as and when required.

What like backing him with money and resources to win a Wembley twice and then backing him for a number of years when most fans wanted him out, sounds about right.
If anything Pearson was too loyal to Radford and he should have gone earlier.
And before you mention it, no he wasnt sacked on live TV.

Saints spoke to him before appointing Woolf. It was down to those two. If he's still at Salford in 12 months time I wouldn't rule out Watson to Saints for 2022. But I imagine Wigan and Warrington both have him on the radar too. It may be a case of first come, first served from those 3 clubs.
