Fielden and Fekas offensive stats are worrying if I was a wigan fan

A quick defensive line will always be a problem for Feka. He needs to get a head of steam up to smash through defenses. If they're in his face as soon as he gets the ball, then he'll struggle.

Surely one of the main reasons for there props making more yards, is that when there props get the ball they are already running. Our props on the other hand always seem to have a standing start.

And it's one of those basic rules of RL that we seem to have neglected over the last few years.

I would agree, but who do we lay the blame on for this and how do we correct it. Is it as simple as piggy's distribution being poor or is it others players either not running on to the ball from distance and others not running of the ball to take heat of the intended ball carrier.

Either way it should be an easy thing to correct for the new coach, and if we can fix the little things up in are game they all add up into much improved performances.

Our players weren't running onto the ball and we were clueless in attack. All season we've played off the cuff and a good defensive effort showed us up for it. We could really do with a half back partner for Tomkins with some vision, good passing and good kicking, basically a Smith without the defensive drawbacks. However, I doubt whether we can afford such a player this year.

Now lets not go down that route now.

Noble has been blamed for the 'clueless attack' for the past 3 years yet now hes gone its because we need a halfback (something Noble apparently wanted to sign).

If Noble was the cause for our attack being poor then surely this new coach is going to fix that up?

BTW i dont agree with the clueless comments. Weve scored plenty trys this year to back that up. When a team looks clueless i prefer to believe the defending team should get some credit. On Saturday Saints defence was superb as was ours for the best part of the game.

Agreed. We didn't exactly look 'clueless' against Hull KR. We put some together some very good attacking plays.

Well lets wait and see what the new coach can get out of all the players. There's big opportunity for recruitment at the end of next season as so many are off contract.

You might be right, we haven't seen this team coached by anyone other than Noble yet so we will only know whether it was down to the coach or players after this year. However, I still assert that for whatever reason we haven't looked organised in attack all year. I'd like to see some set plays next season, whilst still giving Tomkins and Leuluai/New halfback freedom to play their natural game. Hopefully this would help us regularly break down teams, as well as cutting the error count down.

We've used set plays again and again this season. In fact i've seen the same try scored at least half a dozen times with Phelps joining the line out wide on the left.

Said at the game that they were making far too many yards per set of six.

As people have already said though, our decision making wasn't good enough.

For me it was the same failing that this team has had for a long time now - we struggle big time against a good defense close to the opposition line. We seem to lack invention in tight games - especially when in the opposition 20 metre zone.

The game was there to be won - we had enough possesion and chances, the lack of ability to convert pressure and silly mistakes at key times cost us.

Perhaps this isn't down to the coach entirely, we have a 7 who'd struggle to create a house from duplo.

Interesting as I didn't blame anyone in my post - just pointed out the failing as I see it - I suspect it is a mix of players/coaching which is ultimately responsible. It will be very interesting to see if the new coach being a backs coach can improve this area - without any new players.

What I,d like to know, who coached Noble into doing set plays.

I am sure there will be one or two new players coming in to the club before the start of next season

I hope so - especially in certain areas but I am concerned that

a) most of the available top players ahve already been signed and Wigan haven't really been linked with anyone beyond silly rumours

b) we haven't got room on the cap to bring in top quality players without some players leaving

I juts feel that we may well run with the current squad (unless anyone wants/asks to leave) knowing that there are a lo of players who's contacts expire at the ned of next season.
