| Quote ="LewCharnock"And therein puts the debate to bed on the other thread who has the strongest depth in the league. Take any 6 out of Wire, Leeds and Saints of their first choice 17 and they would be struggling big time.'"
Here's a Warrington side missing 6 of its first choice 17:
Hodgson
J. Monaghan
Bridge
King
Evans
Briers
Myler
Morley
M. Monaghan
Wood
Westwood
Harrison
Grix
Cooper
Solomona
Williams
McCarthy
Not sure that team would be "struggling big time", I'd fancy it to beat the Wigan 17 named above. Certainly the three-quarter line offers considerably more threat and fire-power.

Yet still, one injury to Briers and you would struggle to beat a top 4 team.

Agree about Marsh. He's yet to prove himself for me. I'd have rather kept Pryce in our squad and sent Marsh to Quins

It depends what the thinking was when they made the move. I assume they decided Pryce and Charnley both needed lots of game time this season with a view to one of them taking over the 4 shirt from Carmont in 2012 (Marsh surely out of the running), most assumed it would be Charnley who got sent out but they have opted for Pryce. I think short term it could be the wrong decision because I think Pryce would do the better job on the wing while Richards is out but long term a move away from the boo boys at the club and regular super league rugby for Pryce could prove to be the right option. He'll surely get a fairer crack of the whip from the fans if he impresses at Harlequins.

But if you look at the players missing for Wigan, would you still be confident of beating that Wigan 17? I think I know where my money would be.

It could be that Marsh still qualifies at U20 level, whereas Pryce doesn't so it allows another squad player over 20 to play in the U20 side.

But the players you have chosen are nowhere near as vital to the Warrington team that the Wigan players currently injured are.
Sam T- best fullback (Hodgson)
Gleeson- first choice centre (King)
Richards- Best Winger- (Atkins or Monaghan, debateable which)
Finch- First choice half back (Briers)
Fielden- Best prop last season (Morley)
Take them out and yes, you would be "struggling big time".

There really should be some kind of ban on this, it's such a boring cop out. It goes without saying that we all think Mike Maguire has done a brilliant job so far, and I think this will turn out to be a smart move, but it would be a pretty boring forum if we didn't form our own opinions.

but that wasn't what was said was it?
For your information the six missing for Warrington include 4 GB/England internationals, 1 New Zealand international and the club's leading try scorer last season.
Taking Briers and Monaghan out would still give Bridge and Myler at halves with Clarke at hooker, Carvell in for Morley and Atkins in for King. Nobody could seriously state that team would be "struggling big time" against the Wigan 17 named above.

Depends what you define as struggling. For me a club as big as Wire now would be struggling anything in getting beaten by all the top 6/7 clubs. I do think that side would get beaten by Wigan(even with those key players out), Saints, Leeds, Hudds, Hull FC, Hull KR.

| The injury to Hansen is a shame as his game has come on leaps and bounds and I thought he looked sharp at Salford but as people have said the area is that strong it's not a huge issue.
It will open up more opportunites for Farrell, Mossop and Tuson and thats no bad thing.

Why is it a cop out ?, I trust his judgement on this decision, he see's Pryce and Marsh not just on match days, but on a regular basis, my opinion is that it is the correct move, that ok by you ?

The term you used was "struggling big time" - hence I put it in quotation marks everytime I have repeated it. What would you define that as?

| Leeds team with 5 of it best missing. What 5 doesn't matter all squads are balanced different. But i will humour you. no senior, no hall, no McGuire, no peacock, no Webb.
1 Smith
2 Watkins
3 delaney
4 ablett
5 bjb
6 sini
7 burrow
8 kylie
9 buderus
10 cross
11 Jjb
12 huaraki
13 Clarkson
Ali
Kirke
Bailey
Burgess
EDIT:
That team would take some beating, just the 10 academy players. All but 1 of the Backs academy too apart from delaney.

| Let's face it Wigan, Wire, Leeds and Saints all have quality squads filled with class players, good solid pros and exciting youngsters.
If more teams in SL could follow the lead of these three leading clubs both on and off the field the game would be in much healthier position.

| Quote ="Grimmy"Assuming Gleeson, Sam and Fielden return before the season starts (which I think they're meant too to be fair) I suppose this is the problem with the notoriously hard pre-season we have. It might have been great when we had a new coach coming in with fresh ideas and everyone's eager for a new start but year on year it could prove to be draining. The pre season isn't long at all when you get to the final, have lots of players in the four nations, then need to hit the ground running for the WCC, time will tell.'"
Its not just the hard pre-season though - the intensity of the training doesnt decrease at Wigan!
During 2010 Madge talked about this at the training camps set up for amateur coaches that were held at Orrell. He said that the players thought that after the pre-season training would slacken off but if anything it actually got more intense as the season went on.
Madge also put some of our defeats last season down to the fact that players were too tired from training and that lessons had been learned in this area.
