Then let's not bother then eh? Sounds like a RFL comment to me.
Why not anyway? We have a regular 4 - 6k people who will currently gladly pay £18-22 per home match.
For an Adult South Stand Season Ticket - £201, £60 deposit then 3 x £60 payments every other month.
These are the supporters we should be aiming for, by giving additional value (such as money off a WCC ticket) to the ST it makes it more attractive and 'might' just persuade a few to migrate over. Once they do, then they benefit from the Renewal price next November....and so on.

Fully agree. We've shown in the attendances that the support is out there to increase the 'core' support of current STH. We'll get an inevitable boost on the back of the Grand Final, but the club has 2 main challengest o firstly attract these supporters into buying, and then to retain them as STHs.
If we add 1500 STH this year, that's in excess of 250k revenue given to the club up front.

If in this instance an "RFL comment" is one based on some rational economic argument - guilty as charged. A season ticket is already enough value in terms of savings it gives to make it attractive and hoover up those who want one. A few quid saving on a WCC ticket is unlikely to put on one extra sale, nevermind 2,000. In any case it's an RFL event and tickets will go through them.

| Why would Wigan spend a fortune on marketing when they dont even get the money from tickets sales? Its an RFL event and they are the ones who will market it (well of you can call it that).

Surely it would still be a great marketing opportunity, get new fans on board to watch us [upotentially[/u beat the best side in the NRL and get crowned as the best rugby league team in the world, and what a perfect time to get a new fan, at the start of a season. Some of these new fans might then buy season tickets and shirts, or at least go to the odd game, and bring friends with them, point is the money from the WCC might not go to the club but I think it would still be well worth marketing the game.

Its not just new fans, its re-igniting the passions of dormant fans or those that pick and choose when they go.
These are great nights that are few and far between and need to be handled as such, anyone that was Central Park in 88 for the Manley game will remember it fondly and still get a buzz when they think back, I doubt many would feel the same thinking back to 91 and Penrith at Anfield in a half full stadium.

Was at both games and totally agree. The events of 7th October 1987 remain indelibly ingrained in my mind, whereas October 91 was less of a special occasion/spectacular.
Whether that's because 87 was the first, I'm not sure. Also Penrith didn't really "turn up" and Wigan were clearly on top - seem to remember lots of Botica goals and a long distance try (scorer?). Nothing could match the excitement of 87 with Wigan's backs to the wall defence holding out attack after attack by Manly.
Was the Anfield attendance ironically lower then the 36,995 packed into CP in 87? Does the Reebok hold many more than 25k?
A sell out approx 25K attendance at DW would be the ideal scenario and one that would happen if allowed to go ahead.

Considerably so. 20,152 at Anfield.
Reebok holds 28,723 but the game is going to be at Wigan so it's an irrelevance.

| Thanks for confirming the figures/statistics, Bilko.
They help prove my point that the logical decision is to hold the game at the DW.

This is a good thing, at least we know where it's being held now. All is needed is for the RFL & Wigan to market the nuts of it and make sure nothing less than a capacity crowd is there on February 27th.
