| Quote ="Cruncher"That poster reminds me of an equally brainless Leigh fan I once had a dispute with at the Wigan Beer Festival. He insisted that Wigan had only won everything in the 80s and 90s because they "bought all the Australian team". When I pointed out that Wigan only actually had one Australian Test player in that side - Gene Miles - and that he was there for one year, when he was a veteran - he called me a "typical Wiganer", and stormed off.
They don't like facts, these fellas.
'"
I've had the same with a Saints fan. He claimed that the only reason we had won more than anyone else was because we were full time professionals in the 50's. The bullsh*t merry go round took a new twist that day.

seems to be the done thing around these parts at the moment. There's always been a mutual dislike between fans but now both teams are getting a sniff of success, it's escalated.

What has this got to with a "Leeds v Wire final"

My post was [iin response[/i to one posted by a Wiganer. I did not raise the subject. I have not listed the endless facts that show me to be correct because (1) it is off-topic and (2) as I said the facts have been discussed on these boards dozens of times in the past, so little point in raising the entire story again. BTW there is nothing libellous in my post, whereas yours just doles out cheap insults, a skill not beyond the grasp of a wendyball fan.
Back on topic: not many would disagree, though Rhinos or Wire fans would presumably take a win of any kind over an exciting defeat.

You haven't got any facts, never mind 'endless facts'. And no amount of excuse making as to why you can't produce them will disguise that.
You're trotting out cliches, which no doubt you heard from your embittered grandad, as you're clearly too young to remember anything about that era yourself.

Leeds now. I wasn't so sure before, but as always, Warrington fans are the best recruiting officers in the world when it comes to drumming up support for the opposition.

| As many people have said, this game should be a cracker on paper. In my opinion it is the best final line-up since the move back to Wembley with the first two matches Saints v Catalans and Saints v a fairly average Hull side (Washbrook and Lee were the halfbacks) being fairly predictable and one-sided matches, and with respect to last years fixture it lacked the same sense of anticipation as Leeds v Wire due to Huddersfield not being one of the "bigger" clubs and bringing so few fans to Wembley.
Leeds v Wire should see Wembley as near to sold out as possible with the Club Wembley seats in mind, and should produce an entertaining game. Leeds are a big game team who know how to win these games and are defensively excellent when required, but Tony Smith is the sort of coach who can come up with a gameplan to win the game. In last years final he dropped Rauhihi for Tyrone Mcarthy, and in this years semi final he dropped Myler for Clarke, both times with specific gameplans in mind, and it wouldn't surprise me if he has something similarly surprising in mind this time round.
As for the comments on the Challenge Cup itself. I understand and agree with the comments that the league winners have proven they are the most consistent team over the course of the year, and therefore winning the league carries merit, whilst also agreeing that winning the grand final gives you the right to call yourself "champions" which is clearly the biggest title in the game. However for me, the history of the Challenge Cup, the fact it is at the biggest and most prestigious stadium in the country, the fact that it is live on BBC TV and the fact that the feeling and emotion of seeing your team walk out at Wembley is second to none in the rugby league world means that for me the Challenge Cup will always have a special place in my heart that no other competition could match.

I have given up responding to these puerile over-reactions. I am back on topic, can you manage it before you burst a blood vessel? Would that I were as young as you surmise, but, sadly for me, I lived through the entire era in my 30s. BTW, have you any idea what a 'cliche' is? I think we're testing the mod's patience.

Disagree with you there about the Saints v Hull final, thought Hull put in a good performance and took the lead with about 20 min to go, even though Saints ran away in the last 10 mins.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.
You're not just going to throw out a load of cliche-ridden, anti-Wigan bilge and claim it's true, and then try to hide behind the mods when somebody wants proof?
Let's hear it.

You are right and it wasn't fair to call that game a one-sided match, I just think that most people kind of expected Saints to run away with it at the end given the difference in class between the teams, whereas it would be a bit more of an upset if either Warrington or Leeds were able to do the same in this final given the way many people are expecting such a close game.

Have faith. Peacock has never trodden the wembley turf, neither has sinfield. Big players with alot to play for. Most of the current leeds team has never won the CC.
Wire will have to play really F*cking well to win.

So will Leeds. Warrington won't be giving up the trophy without one hell of a fight. Bad news for Wigan if Warrington lose at wembley actually. The loss will just fire up the players even more to get to and win the grand final. In knock out rugby league I as a Warrington supporter certainly don't fear anybody.
