I simply replied, with reason. And please don't patronise me over the 60 years.
I do have ambition, and care about the club. I only mentioned the reserves and academy as an indication of how the club is moving forward. Under Millward the WHOLE club would have been suffocated. As I said, read Radlinskis book and see what Noble had to contend with when he took over.

I brought up Millward to highlight your inconsistency in argument by using Noble's record at another club as a defence. I've read Rads book thanks, and I've already said I've no time for Millward.
For someone who has consistently bellyached about how house the reserves system is I'm astounded you're trying to use that as some kind of defence of Noble's record.
After three years of standing still (and if you take Noble's record for us in 2006 in terms of victories it's actually going backward) and underachieving, I'd call wanting more of the same as lacking ambition. Like you say we'll just have to agree to disagree.

What did you expect to win within the first 3 years if him taking over a team cast adrift at the bottom of the league?
I have my problems with him for sure and i'm not convinced either way about keeping him on but i never expected trophies from him in such a short space of time.
We were in a total mess when he took over.

The thing is how far have we come under him and the answer is a long way.
We have improved our league position been to 2 final eliminators a CC semi. Had more youngsters staying with the club and with the help of I.L. not broken the S.C. rules and still have a better team than when he came.
If a new coach comes and we do not make a massive step forward will he have to go to then we can get back to changing the coach with the wind direction

| we are just going over old ground .
maybe we could have 1 won of the semi's if we had got the week previous off , but that would mean would would need to play better over the season to finish higher up the table ?
get my drift ??
the mentality of noble is to start performing in the last quarter of the season , his record with us and bradford proves this
my thoughts are consistency over the season breeds confidence , not just a 3 or 4 game winning streak later on

| I think the players lift their game when they are self-motivated such as near the end of the season when Old Trafford is in their sights or for the Challenge Cup. They are not motivated early in the season because the cups seem so far away and they are not motivated by playing such teams as Celtic away, with holidays abroad looming.
It is up to Noble to motivate them when self-motivation isn't there. He has clearly failed to do this and must go. We should not be so far adrift of Saints.

Just how much of a mess were we in playing wise? If we were that bad we would have been relegated regardless of Noble. With the addition of two players Millward did not have the luxury of having in his side we went from rubbish to a team no one wanted to play in less than half a season.
In other words Noble fixed the problem in less than half a season.
It is his complete failure to crack on from there and build on the momentum he got into the side in 2006 that has been the problem.
Far too much is made IMO of how bad we were in 2006 simply to give Noble something big he can take credit for. We simply can not have had such a bad side that the addition of a new coach and two players turned us from relegation candidates into a good side in a matter of weeks.

| It was interesting to hear what Radlinski had to say about Noble in his book i.e. not very much. He had lots to say about the coaches he liked i.e. Gregory and Endacott plus plenty to say about the coaches he didn't think were good for Wigan i.e. Millward and Raper. At one point he referred to Noble's enthusiasm but didn't say much else. As Radlinski is now on the coaching staff he would hardly slag off Noble but if he thought he was the right man for Wigan long term then surely he would have said so. Instead he remained silent on the matter which said it all for me.

| I think Brian Noble will get another years contract. I did have a feeling that we would get a new assistant coach for next season ie Adrian Lam, but I don't think so now, as I did read somewhere in the past that Wigan wanted to promote from within the club. The situation with Brian Noble shoud have been handled better though. Same with Mickey Higham last year.
Perhaps Justin Morgan or that aussie chap doesn't want to come to the club till the end of next season!

I don't think it matters too much how it's handled publicly as long as behind the scenes Noble knows where he stands. And I'm lead to believe he knows that.

Exactly
Tbf if you look the 2006 side that Millward was sacked from it actually didnt perform much worse than the 2009 side this year in the first 10 games!!!
The only difference in 2006 was the form didnt pick up for another 5 games or so compared to this year. In reality it just shows that something is wrong in our seasons preperations as the first half of the season is never indicative of where we are as a team and the team that season was never as bad as the league table suggested even in the dark days when we were 8 pts of safety!
Comparing the two seasons
2006 - 2pts from 10 games 2009 - 6pts from 10 games
In the first 10 games in 2006 we could have easily sneaked wins in the wire, salford and catalans games, and have started that season better than this!!! So for all the hype that we were aweful....it was actually just a slightly worse start than usual....whos to say millward wouldnt have turned it around once we started playing on the drier tracks?
In reality its just how we start seasons at wigan for some unbeknown reason.....until we sort this we will never prosper come the end of the season as we will burn out and leave too much to do!! Look at our form in the 2nd half of every season and we're championship form, yet we kill our season every year before we start!!
