Well i was going to create a new thread after reading the tripe of excuses on the saints board but i didn't think the mods would appreciate two threads on a similar topic, so you decided to reply to my post with out actually addressing my points but rather moan about my poor punctuation, and when i pulled you up on it you said i hadn't shown you up. anyway now i can see your method of consolidation is the golden oldie of 'were more successful in superleague than you'.

Is it even in our best interests to win this one? If we finish 1st 2nd or 3rd we'll likely play Wire or Leeds, 4th would put us against Huddersfield. I know they have all already beaten us this year but I'd much rather play Hudds in a play off match than the other two. I remember posting something similar before the Saints game at the end of last year so we could dodge Leeds and Wire till the final, I got slated but lo and behold Leeds knocked us out of the play offs. Food for thought anyway...

Can see what you're getting at, but we can't legislate for other teams' performances so let's concentrate on us.

We'd have to have a big collapse for Leeds to catch us so top 3 looks pretty certain. It really doesn't matter where we finish as long as its in that top 4. The first game of the play off series is a bit of a nonsense so we it doesn't matter a jot who we play in it.

Then you've always got the bonus of missing out on the supposed advantage that is 'club call' if we don't finish 1st (as long as the teams above us don't lose).

Our season is all about the cup now until September IMO. If we lose every league game yet take out the cup at Wembley I'll be made up.

We have a max of 13 games but only 5 truly matter. We've done the hard work and now hopefully we've learned from last year and focus on the 5. Although it would be nice to win the next 11 and take the treble (sorry double and hubcap)

What do people think of Hampshire? He looks promising in attack but a bit shaky in defence IMO. Would like to see him coming off the bench at 6 with Tierney playing at 1.

Tierney picked up a one match suspension from the U19 game v Bradford (along with five other Wigan players) so can't play tomorrow.

Just looked at the disciplinary findings. Can't believe that the Bradford winger who was causing trouble all match with sneaky punches etc. in the tackle wasn't even charged. Williams case still has to be heard due to evidence only submited at the hearing by Bradford that one of their players received a serious injury. It was probably the winger as he had a fair sized cut under his eye that the doctor had to help their physio with.

The first item on any Wigan coaches start of season check list should be to beat stains. Therefore we need to go for the win tomorrow and think about our other games after that

Yeah, the whole 'fans don't care about any other games as long as we beat Saints' line is a myth.

I'd take losing every derby, every year if it meant winning a trophy.

Sorry I don’t agree, yes it’s a biggie for sure but not the top goal for me. No true Wiganer likes to lose to the living dead, but it doesn’t pay the bills as much as getting silver in the boardroom cabinet, or maintain or place in RL history. If we can play and wup their ass on the way, or better still in a final (but I can’t see them in any this season though) all the better for that.

Not at all, trophies come first, derbys second. I couldn't tell you off the top of my head which years we won the derby, but I can tell you when we won the Grand Final and the Challenge Cup

Not many of the current crop of 'attacking' fullbacks are good in defence, here or in Aus for that matter.

I agree. Though some posters e.g. Jonh have posted on here establishing that to them it is more important to see good results week in, week out, than to win trophies.

Tonight’s exclusions are more or less what most folks expected. Whether necessary or just a precaution with the weekend in mind, it doesn’t matter now, let’s just hope they get on with it and do the job that will set them up for Saturday.
