No chance we need him full time at Wigan

English coaches are so far behind in modern coaching techniques it is a joke, or do you not watch the mediocre flat pass crap that is served up every week in SL, maybe add a passionate assistant coach to an up to date Aussie coach much like what we now have at Wigan

You cannot change allegiances that easy if your Australian. Maybe have on as an adviser but not as coach i think Smith is proving this.

By the way i have been to all the England games of this series including the warm up game. I also go to at least 1 game a week during the season so yes i do see it but my point still stands.

but to be fair Big Nose has been over here long enough to gain British citizenship, what i'm saying is bring a coach directly over from Oz, somebody that is out of contract, give him 2/3 years then bring another one in, either that or line up a British coach and send him down under for a year or so to acquaint himself with the way they do things before bringing him back

Unless Shaun Edwards can find us an English Greg Inglis , Israel Folau and Billy Slater he wouldnt be able to do much

Spot on there! I do believe we have the best pack in the competition but the backs with the exception of Tomkins and Eastmond is very ordinary to say the least.

Thinking about it Edwards would be perfect for the England RL job as it would suit both parties to the ground.

Edwards wants to stay down in the London area for his son. The international job would allow him this option as he doesn’t have to be based or stuck in one location as he would be if he took a club role.

He’s been out of the game for a while so taking the England job would be a very good way to come back into RL as like another poster mentioned earlier it’s not as technical coaching wise as a day to day club coach role is.

An international coach probably does about 6-10 weeks of proper coaching a year at push? Most of the skills you need you as an intentional coach are the ability to man manage effectively and being able to foster a good team atmosphere. Edwards is a top coach in RU and the above skills are easily transferred through the two sports imo.

Add to that the type of person Edwards is I’m positive he’d throw himself feet first into developing his RL coaching skills 2.

He’s exactly the type of person we need imo and it would be a very astute and good move to get a guy like him in.

Two reasons why Smith got the job.

1, Edwards turned the GB/England job down when offered it.
2, Leeds wanted him out.

Who would replace Smith is the problem. There is not an obvious candidate.

Forget about Edwards and try and think of a credible alternative to Smith.

The way we are regressing as a team the next coach has to be one that can get them fired up, believing in themselves and be able to put club allegiances aside and make the big decisions that need to be made.

Has Smith completely ruined the idea of a part time coach who has a club already???

I was at a wedding with a Wasps player recently and asked him what he thought of Edwards.

The guy was in absolute awe of him. The respect (and fear) was written all over his face - he spoke of intensity, passion, perfection, motivation - all the values we've known Edwards has in bucketloads.

He also mentioned Edwards is obsessed with his weight. He told me about one day when the players were all in the gym having a weights session, the door burst open and a stark bollock naked Shaun Edwards stormed in with a look of thunder on his face, over to the scales. He weighed himself, shouted, "for 's sake", and stormed out again, slamming the door behind him. He was 2 pounds overweight.

brilliant player and a really nice bloke as well....bring him back so he can guide tomkins...if tomkins is quarter as good as shaun then bingo...

Heard from a very good source yesterday at the France v New Zealand game that there is no way Edwards will come back to the north and virtually no chance he'll leave rugby union. He loves it in London and is getting paid to do something he loves, coach. I was also told that Gizmo still prefers to watch league and finds union boring most of the time.

I've heard a very similar story were Edwards had been killing himself in the gym for ages and then he jumps on the scales to weigh himself but he’s still overweight. He storms off to the changing room’s gets stark b0llock naked and goes to weigh himself again but yet he’s still over his target weight so he storms into the changing rooms again and pulls out a razor and proceeds to shave all the hair off from his body right there in front of everyone.

If the guy sets himself a goal I wouldn't put money against him not achieving it put it that way.

Lets just hope one of his goals is to coach Wigan.

I know most people will shoot me down for this one but i would like to see Kear as England coach.

Firstly he is English.

Secondly, as we are not as good as Australia or NZ we need someone with a genuine passion for the country and the sport also someone with a prooven history of doing well with the underdogs, he fits the bill on all of those.

I think he would do a good job to but would want him to be full time. I also think he would put the time in to watch all the super league teams and maybe he would be the first England coach to pick on form. Having met him on a number of occasions i found his passion for the game second to none he speaks his mind and cant half motivate a team.

Fundamentally we dont have the quality of players that the Aussies have.

Get quality players and do the basics right and we will win. We dont need fancy training and tactics

Folau and Inglis - know the basics and use their skill and raw talent to beat opponents

Cor. If only we'd had you in the GB camp for the last 30 years. I bet no-one else knew it was that easy.

I used to think the same thing about the players. I've now literally watched the England Aus game about 6 times, and I promise you we did not lose because of any lack of natural talent or phsyical abilities. What we do need is what you hit on in the second paragraph, players who can do the basics right.

We lost purely and simply because we didn't do the basics right (specifically the right side defensive line, and our composure in attack - forcing the pass when we should have gone to ground, and our kicking game).

Any of the teams (including France) would have scored tries against us in the first half.

The very first thing we need is a team of players who can do the basics right, if we do that we'll always compete - we may need better players to convincingly win or win on a regular basis, but if we'd just got the basics right on Saturday it could have been a different result.

Oh and Isreal Folau, for all his freakish phsyical attributes has plenty of flaws in his game (some of them basic to)

Passion but no brains?

Better than no passion at all and i did not see much brains being used until Australia were to far in front for us to catch.
