What's your explanation then Einstein? Perhaps it's the fault of them pesky Commies again? If, instead of trying to show off in front of your Peers, you took the time to read the thread you would see that the particular question was why, when RL & RU have similar club attendances & viewing figures, does RU attract massively increased sponsorship?'"
If I must........it attracts more sponsorship in the same way that Football attracts more sponsorship than Polo.
i.e. the sport has a wider following.
I appreciate we have a bit of thread drift here, but this is why it's not appropriate to compare just the attendances. It's about the exposure.

| Quote ="pies-r-us"I don’t care how many watch RU; I know which is the better game. RU is a futile game because too much emphasis is placed on stupid pointless penalties, instead of what people want to see, TRIES! I’ve seen games with scores in double figures with no tries scored at all. So for me I’m not bothered if they do have a larger following, that is mostly for internationals anyway and not so much at club level, but you go if you want, but take a Philadelphia lawyer with you to let you know what’s going on. Most of their fans won’t come to see an RL game because they think it’s beneath them, and they know which is the better game; they just can’t bring themselves to admit it. So it’s pointless to stress over attendances they have the cash, the backing, and the publicity. WE HAVE THE BETTER GAME!!!'"
I find try-fests in Rugby League boring nowdays.

But club RU doesn't, in fact I believe RL gets much better TV figures for its club matches on Sky. Sponsors tend to pump money where their market group is. Football is slightly different due to its enourmous world wide appeal, but they don't attract the likes of Hackett, Jaeger-le Coultre, Verve Clicquat, Hello, Pimms, Gaucho, Barbour etc as polo does. When, literally, one man & his bichon frise watch polo it does beg the question as to why.

It is the easiest thing in the world to put the blame on the RFL but, up to the current lump of lard, they have had some people in charge who were not stupid, but still struggled.

I'm sure that the RFL are happy to get your endorsement..
If we take the current argument about whether ‘Sir Kev’ is the best player in the world, few have argued that he is not a terrific leader. So, is it not also fair to say that the RFL should also be seen in this same light? We all know damned well that it is all down to the RFL and their marketing of the game, they make the decisions on sponsorship, admittedly dependant on who they can attract, but in marketing it is your job to attract!! With the viewing figures that the game has, and the product they have, I would feel that it is safe to say that they are failures.

Maybe we should look to getting in an Aussie to run it

| It strikes me that no one has notice one of the main reasons why the game we love is not as popular as it should be, (or maybe it’s just me) fashion! Let’s face it we are not fashionable enough, football is the game that is the most fashionable. We are seen as an old working class sport for rough flat-capped, whippet dragging, fag smoking, beer swilling, know nowts and this IMO is the biggest of many hurdles or sport must get over to attain the recognition it deserves. The BBC is very good at keeping this image alive, and let’s face it; we are not cool enough for the rest of the country. Oz doesn’t have the same problem because they don’t have the same image, and their game has a kudos there that their football doesn’t. That’s the big task, make us fashionable! Good luck!

I quite like the way you came on here with a semblance of wanting to talk RL but reverted suspiciously quickly to taking the mickey out of Wiganers. That wasn't particularly clever either. More of a cliche, I'd say.

Please don't be so sensitive and re read my original posts.
I happened to agree with a train of thought put forward by tigertot, one that was harshly dismissed by XBrettKennyX as utter tripe who thermn suggested on a thread about attendances between RL and RU, that it isn't about attendances and what about polo and football.....or words to that effect.
If you do take the opportunity of re reading, you might also note the use of some which was written in bold so as not to antagonise or generalise about Wiganers.
I thought that it is a valid topic to contribute on as it effects the well being of the game as whole.

| Big RU games are events - places to see and be seen. The product on the pitch is of secondary importance frankly. Do people shell out 100 quid a ticket to go and queue for 6 hours to see Madonna or Elton John because they want to hear great music? Of course not.
I've been to 2 RU games (at Harlequins and Northampton) and to me it seemed as though the actual game was just an inconvenient interruption to the actual days' business of standing around in the concourses or around the refreshment tents chatting to friends and colleagues - there was certainly far more noise from the stands before the game and at half-time than ever happened during the 80 minutes. You can't compare support for the 2 games at all - RL is a great underground indie band and RU is JLS. I know which I prefer to see but each to their own.

I would agree French is just one example of what I see as the dumbing down of our sport by the media. As I’ve said in an earlier post the BBC is expert at exaggerating the social gap between the followers of the respective sports. All though there are many working class fans who watch football because of footballs standing in sporting terms in the country, the BBC would not dare to treat it in the same manner as our sport. RU is given the full manicure and facial, while all our sport is seen as too much of a threat, so receives a televisual urinating on! RU is "The chaps" RL is for oicks. "Downton Abbey lives on"

I've put a proposal together with my wife. Basically I've promised to write "Kevin Sinfield" and "Super League" in the dirt on the side of our cars in return for Super League being rebranded to "Pemps Super League". It's now between me and Microsoft who've offered a £12m 5 year deal. I've taken Nigel Woods to Pepper Lane Chippy though. It's as good as mine.

Today was a nothing game for Saracens though I think and with the weather in London as it is I'm surprised they got that many. What's their average?
Leicester seem to have pretty much a full house for their do-or-die game in the snow.
