You can't be arguing that Carmont is as good as Inglis, Tommy as good as Thurston, or that McIlorum is world class surely!

In a salary capped sport, you can't have a team full of stars, every team needs a few players who are consistant. The Neville's for United for example. The only player he has listed who I would say is above average is Hansen, the rest are good players who do a job for us week in week out, nothing more for me. (Not saying I don't appreciate the job they do, just saying they arn't the best players in the world)

From World Class straight to Average though?

Surely there should be some middle ground?? If not then the Super League is predominantly made up of 'average' players or else we get to the silly situation where Eddie Hemmings stated Wellens was 'World Class' for years when he clearly never was (not when you compare him to real world class full backs like Thurston / Lockyer..etc.

I couldn't care less. If average players win the title then thats fine by me. If a team of Denis Moran's win the title for Wigan, I'm happy.

Yes it is true that the players mentioned may not be "man of steel" contenders, but that does not make them average. Also the players mentioned do a brilliant and consistent job for Wigan, week in week out. Wire have similar players they ain't all "superstars" that wire fans would have you believe!

warrington also have the most over rated player in the league (myler) i dont think he would get into our 19 never mind the 17. but thats my opinion.

Of course like Batesy said you can't have a team of stars due to the cap.

Out of them players I wouldn't call any of them average. I wouldn't call them world class or outstanding, but they are all good solid players who have earned a place in the Champions first team.

Anybody who thinks Carmont and Leuluai are average musn't see enough of them to make judgement. We see the same thing with Lockers all the time. Carmont is one of the best centres in the league and Leuluai is one of the best running half-backs around, look at what he did to saints in the GF.

I can see why people would think Hansen was average because he doesn't do all the fancy stuff, same for Coley and McIlorum really.

Goulding is the definition of average.

Like Bilko said though, who cares what players you have as long as you are winning the title?

We proved last week at Hudds that ever without all of our star players we could still do very well in this league with our 'average' players.

Batesy is also right, with the SC you can't have a team full of world class players unless you buy a couple of gems from Aus and every single young player you bring through turns out to be amazing. We won the title last year because people like Hansen, Coley, McIlorum and Goulding in particular, all did their job to a high standard.

Wigan's players are all average. Actually can we just agree that all Wigan's players are below average? It much easier to gloat when Wigan win games at the expense of the teams full of world beaters.

Well regardless of the petty arguing that may well ensue I genuinely would be loathed to swap Andy Coley for any other Prop in the league if we are looking purely at performances not taking into account age etc. How he does not get an England call up is beyond me.

He pretty much took on and really hurt the St George defence on his own in the WCC. Excellent player in everything he does, very strong carry and his defence is technically spot on but also very hurtful.
