2022 Betfred Super League Fixtures Announced
On the back of the announcement that Betfred Super League will be broadcast on both Sky Sports and Channel 4 in 2022, Super League can now confirm the full fixture schedule for the upcoming season.
St Helens will launch their defence of the Betfred Super League title at the home to Catalans Dragons, on Thursday 10 February (20:00), in a repeat of the 2021 Grand Final.
The clash between last year’s Grand Finalists will be the first live match on Sky Sports in 2022 – it will be followed on Friday night by Hull KR versus Wigan Warriors (20:00).

It’s the thing that stuck out to me. It’s pretty awful that and will hurt the club financially.
I can see that the latter two are because of being on Sky but the first one doesn’t look to be. That one looks to be on a Thursday because Latics are at home on the Saturday against Sunderland.

I am retired now so Thursday's don't bother me but 4 of our traveling party work so it's 2 days holiday off work instead of 1 or even just half a day (early finish Friday)

It’s so difficult. I’m ok as I work from home now and so are the other guys I go with but clearly Thursday is difficult for many people.
On the upside things look better once we get these out the way and I like the mix of days the games fall on. The Tour De France would’ve been a nice week in June/July but not sure it’ll temp many in March.

| I thought Toulouse would be easier to get to from Manchester. Looks like the only places you can get non stop flights are the London airports

Nah I've flown there myself from Manchester. Unless something has changed since 2018. It was with FlyBe to be fair who have since gone under.

Flight from Manchester 12 noon on Friday to Carcassonne then train (1 hour) to Toulouse. Return on Monday to Manchester or train to Perpignan for those doing both matches.

| Prior to Sky TV coming on the scene, games were played on Tuesday ansd Wednesday nights on a regular basis and in front of crowds which in many cases were bigger than what they get now on Friday Evenings with no moaning about kids having go to school or getting up for work on Friday mornings.
And many supporters even travelled to away games in bigger numbers than what they do now.
All in the time when more people were working than what work today.
Thursday night games are no different than Friday night as some of the crowd figures depending on who is playing each other have proved.
True supporters will go to games on whatever day or night a game is played to support their team.
Like many older supporters, I did for many seasons by changing a shift or booking a day's holiday.
p.s. Look at the crowds football get for mid week games.

Once again, theres so many things in the post to pick holes in its untrue
The latest "All our yesterday's" is that people "Worked more" back in the day than they do now
No wonder our country has gone to rock and ruin, its because people used to work more back then (sarcasm alert).
Never mind that stopping Tues/Weds games had nothing to do with sky

Its exactly that reason. Yet when Latics are away on 12 March, we take a trip to the south of France.
Huddersfield Town are away on 26 February, so their stadium is available that weekend.
Whoever dreams these fixtures up needs replacing. Much easier to reverse the Huddersfield and Catalan fixtures so we play away on the weekend 26 Feb and at home on the weekend of 12 March. The comment about the pitch-laying is a smokescreen as there's a high chance the Latics will be in the L1 play-offs, which dont take place until mid-May.

Plenty of low crowds in this competition - although Wigan's attendances are not declared, I cant see how they would have bucked the trend.'"
You are talking about the seventies, when the club was in a terrible situation under the then ten man board of Directors which included Baxendale, Broome and Gostellow and were signing low cost players like Les Bolton, Cliff Sayer, Peter Smethurst from Swinton who were in a even more terrible state than Wigan.
The lowest crowd I remember at that time was around 2,500, which I recall was possibly against Batley, but like you have intimated, there were others in the 2,500 to 3,000 bracket as the crowds decline and the club was relegated.
The lowest attendance since the start of the 1980's when the gang of four had just taken over the club was a crowd of 3,146 against Dewsbury in the 1980/81 season which lasted for a long while until the more recent seasons in non season ticket games which have seen crowds as low as 5000/6000.
Hopefully, the club will never fall again to the level it did in the seventies!
