| Interesting selection.
Jack Wells is an outstanding prospect even though he is still U18. Kyle Shelford (U19's captain for Wigan and England) has tremendous leadership qualities and desire, whether he will ever be big enough would be a major concern. I'm looking forward to seeing how Bretherton, Waterworth and Gregson step up to the next level.
Should be fun and a good test for such a young side.
edit - I have a feeling that Shelfords leadership qualities probably came to the fore on the recent army training camp sessions, hence his inclusion. He has a real desire to be a top class player and is well liked/respected by the coaching staff and his team mates.

| Who we going to be looking at for the halves? Powell and an other by the looks.
Leigh will put their strongest team out I'm sure so it'll potentially be a sound defeat but you just want to see the attitude be good.

Leigh squad, fairly strong I think.
The Leigh Centurions squad is as follows:
Gregg McNally; Adam Higson; Greg Worthington; Willie Tonga; Liam Kay; Martyn Ridyard; Fuifui Moimoi; Bob Beswick; Dayne Weston; Gareth Hock; Cory Paterson; Micky Higham; Jonny Pownall; Reni Maitua; Jamie Acton; Tom Spencer; Lewis Foster; Sam Hopkins; Andrew Dixon; Rangi Chase; Tom Armstrong; Eze Harper.

| More first teamers than I expected to be honest. Though with Leigh having the likes of Tonga, Moimoi, Hock, Paterson, we'll need them to stick up for the younger lads.
And yes it is on Wigan TV with commentary from Bilko I believe!

Leigh are NOT full strength though , no Brierley though I expect us to win comfortably.

Shorrocks has an ACL injury that will keep him out until around May. Both Gregson and Gildart have played at #6 in the U19's.

| Waney likes to test his younger players against "men".
Those coming from the U age groups probably will face open age players for the first time.
He will be looking as to how they perform and react to those older players who may try to bully them.
No doubting the skill level of our younger players and it will be good to see how they fit into the moves and plays of our first teamers.

Totally agree mate ,that's why I'm tipping a Leigh win,if you had Williams and Smith at halves I would still tip Leigh, Williams is class no doubt , but Smith, did he play in last season's GF?

That's a real shame about Shorrocks, he played well in the Leigh game last year and I was hoping he would get the full 80 in this game. Guessing we'll go something like:
FB 22 Tierney
RW 2 Charnley
RC 3 Gelling
LC 20 Gildart
LW 5 Manfredi
SO 27 Gregson
SH 16 Powell
P 17 Mossop
H 32 Waterworth
P 10 Flower
SR 11 J.Tomkins
SR Shelford
LF 21 Sutton
S 15 Clubb
S 19 Tautai
S 29 Bretherton
S Davies
S Ganson
S Paisley
S Wells

It would be interesting to see Gildart in the halves saying that I have said in the past (only my opinion) that he seems to be a bit small for a top rate centre.
I hope my doubts about him being a solution for Wigan in the Centres are proven wrong though.

He did indeed.
Did any Leigh players play in the middle 8's?

| Can't blame them for trying to sledge us.
This pre season friendly against our reserves is their cup final for the season. They actually have some fans who have the scores of our pre season games on their avatars. That's how much it means to them.

Not at all arrogant Cherry, it's a friendly versus a weak Pie side (yet again) Would rather Leigh played a '1st choice' championship xiii in a friendly, than this pointless fixture year in, year out. Guess the attendance will be OK, but why not send your 'strongest' line up, rather than excuses about your England players only just returned to training.

Pity about Hansen - I bet he was really looking forward to playing against his former team. Barlow also missing. We can't really turn out any of our youngsters - Harper excepted - as we haven't got a reserve grade team in 2016!
Still think it's a pretty strong Wigan side, given some of the restrictions on their selection - i.e. injuries, operations, players starting late, following international duty.
Hopefully a good, competitive game.

How are they excuses? Why would we pick our best players for a meaningless friendly? It obviously means a lot to you though.

| This fixture means more to leigh than it does to Wigan, its pointless to me and doesn't achieve anything other than to rob the fools who are willing to pay £20 to see it. I subscribe to Wigan TV so if its on there then i will watch it but to have to pay to watch it......i think not.

To be fair I think you are right Wigg'n this fixture will always mean more to us as we don't get a lot of chances to play sides like Wigan very often I am afraid.
