| The two defining moments.
Huddersfields third try just after half time.
The Sam Powell kick to touch.
The first was very much a forward pass.
Then Grix has one foot on the line when he catches the ball from Sam Powells penalty and Huddersfield score from it.
The touchjudge is unsited.
Huddersfield deserved the win, no doubt, their forwards laid the platform but sometimes you get the rub of the green as we probably did last week.

| I think the defining moments were every time we got the ball we looked more interested in doing something with it than you did. Glad we dont play such boring rugby as you did tonight- charnleys try the only bright part.

| I like Wigan as a club but I did enjoy you not not getting some simple calls right last night. I'm not one who watches boots n all, full time, backchat ect but I have watched them this week and I am sick to death about hearing how many players are missing and especially Tomkins. It happened before last weeks game v us and again all the build up to last nights game. Bri Carney and Phil Clarke sounded totally deflated to me after last nights defeat and I really enjoyed it, they are terribly biased at times!
Anyhow, back to the decisions on Shudds third try, I didn't think it was a penalty committed on McGilvery(sp) and the forward pass that was not given was shocking considering where that cheat Childs was in relation to the pass.
Great attendance and a good game.

| The writing was on the wall when Farrell made a kick in the first half. Is it me or do we have a team of spoons? Can anybody catch a loose ball? its totally embarassing watching HH, Moose and Farrell trying to drop on a loose ball, to be fair it wasn't just them the whole team have feeble handling skills.
To keep this balanced Hudds wer excellent, I heard too many people saying they looked good but wernt playing that well, that was wrong in all regards. Hudds in attack wer a joy to watch, the whole team were darting in about at all angles, always looked to offload, applied an excellent questioning kicking game, Robinson was always looking to attack the line and they always looked a threat. In defence they wer competent and no more than that mainly due to the poor play from Wigan. Did anybody offload for Wigan last night? Did we make any darting angled runs, did powell attack the line like Robinson, did Green apply a questioning kicking game like Brough? No, it was a team who wer playing with no gameplay or perhaps playing to a gameplan that they haven't bought into. Credit to Hudds, I only wish we could play with that flair and confidence at Wembley.

| This is the first game I have heard Sky make a big thing of it, but why on earth Hudds would be under more pressure as a result is beyond me. What particular pressure?
Anyway, well done Hudds, enjoyable game bar the odd one or two ref blunders that we all know . High tackle on Hampshire - no it wasn't, for example. Also the Sky team - loooookkk, MM is head butting! At least the voice of reason was there with Carney.

Come on Rogues even you can't be so biased. If you've watched it again you clearly forgot to mention the missed the Charnley foot in touch when he holds the ball from Brough's 40-20 attempt. What did you think of the unlimited head shots that went unnoticed along with the two attempt stamps by Luaki?

Ryan Bailey did the same thing at the magic weekend, do you think it got noticed by the officials? Did it get reviewed after the match? Did he get a ban? Guess what happened? Nothing....

I agree with you but it's because of failings in the past coaches like at Catalans are annoyed when they get a player banned for 3 games. The RFL try to make a stance on something when the best part of the season has gone. Your man Luaki (sp)could also feel the brunt of this as the RFL will try to look consistent. Could be interesting.

| This thing about losing the ball in the tackle, usually the first, missed timed short passing resulting in knock-ons or a forward pass, is getting beyond a bad joke now. Get a grip! Yes I know that part of the tackling technique is to dislodge the ball, but most other sides seem to handle it better than us. Yes we have had more than our fair-share of injuries, but that doesn’t stop us doing the basics better than we are. Not trying to be too simplistic, but if I was coach I would get the player to one side, put my face close to his and tell him “you keep doing the same thing week after week, listen to what I tell you to do, and stop it”

The defining moment to me was the kick-off, we had a point to prove to the whole of RL that we can handle big pressure games, the entire RL community, including the media, have been waiting since February for us to fail so they can all sit there with grins on their faces going 'i told you so'......We had a chance to prove tonight that we are the real deal and do it at the home of the media's darlings live on TV - our players simply wanted it more and proved their point in emphatic fashion.....you could have had 2 Sam Tomkins and 2 O'loughlin's out there tonight and you still wouldn't have beaten us - we wouldn't have let ourselves lose that one !!
Our problem now is we need to prove it every week until October !

| We did play pretty poorly, although to be fair we were in the game up until the last 15.
I wouldn't place too much emphasis on any individual calls being defining moments. I think both teams had good and bad calls from Childs and the TJs. I'm not sure about Grix putting his foot in touch on the Powell kick but he shouldn't have been able to get anywhere near it in the first place. Conversely, when Charnley foiled Brough's 40/20 attempt he did have a foot in touch, so we got away with that one.
The three things that stick out in my mind are
1) organisation. We didn't have any. Farrell having to kick on the last was just one example of many where we looked all at sea.
2) ball control. We didn't have any. Dropped far too much (although this can be said of Hudds as well) and it seemed to me that we didn't once manage a free play. Whenever Hudds knocked on we knocked on back.
3) lack of moves. We looked dangerous when we ran our "Wiganesque" two wave structured line, but I could count on one hand the number of times we did it. Instead we opted for one out drop off nearly every play. Honestly I've never seen so many drop offs, it seemed so out of character for us and just screamed lack of confidence. To make matters worse half the drop offs were hospital passes. Can you tell, I don't like drop offs!
I think we were lucky in a way that Huddersfield were so nervous. It kept us in the game quite a bit. They made a lot of mistakes, Brough missed 2 kicks that he would have kicked any other day, and they lost their way for a few sets. If they'd have been a notch or two more on form we could have been made to look a bit silly. And credit where it's due, Grix was immense for them last night.

| We lost the game because of the following.
Poor Discipline
Poor Handling
Poor Kicking game
Danny Brough
Huddersfield outclassed us, the amount of possession they had compared to us was embarrassing.
Basically we are living in cloud cuckoo land if we think we were on the same level as them last night, I'm sure Tomkins, Lockers and Smith would have made a difference but I'm not sure we would have won

I wasn't blaming the defeat on officials at all, Huddersfield were by far the better team, but those two calls helped move the score from 12 - 12 to 12 -22. It was poor ball control more than anything else that cost us.
When we scored in the first half we dropped the ball (twice) on the first set.

| Some good points on here, I think without SOL you fail to control the ruck, and as such your forwards don't play on the front foot, this limits your attack, which when you get it right is very difficult to defend.
ST would undoubtably have made a difference to your attack, to be honest when you were in our last 20 I didn't feel threatened like I would against Wire, it's you Achilles heel. You don't seem to have the invention to create a try. It was the same at the JS stadium earlier in the season you had alot of possession in our last 20 and failed to score. Again no ST that night, although SOL did play from memory.
If it true that ST is off to NZ next season then you have got to come up with something to break teams down here (I'm talking the top 6 teams here as you don't have the same intensity from the defences of the so called 'lesser' teams.
Still along way to go for us and all we won last night was 2 points.

| All this "this proves huddersfield are the real deal" is nonsense imo. Our form since Magic Weekend has been poor:
26/05/2013 19:30 Leeds Rhinos 16 v 20 Wigan Warriors Etihad Stadium - Decent win, managed to gring it out without playing too well.
June
02/06/2013 15:30 Wakefield Trinity Wildcats 23 v 36 Wigan Warriors The Rapid Solicitors Stadium - Again we ground out a win, nowhere near our best.
07/06/2013 20:00 Widnes Vikings 32 v 33 Wigan Warriors Stobart Stadium Halton - Quite a few injuries, enjoyable win.
24/06/2013 19:45 Warrington Wolves 22 v 12 Wigan Warriors Halliwell Jones Stadium - Still a good few players missing, probably our best performance of the last 2 months.
28/06/2013 20:00 Wigan Warriors 4 v 18 Castleford Tigers DW Stadium - Shocking display, looked lacklustre. Too soon after Watrrington match?
July
05/07/2013 20:00 Wigan Warriors 26 v 20 Bradford Bulls DW Stadium - How did we win this? Another shocking performance, very poor with ball in hand, lacklustre again.
15/07/2013 20:00 Wigan Warriors 48 v 4 Widnes Vikings DW Stadium - Beat a poor team. Looked better with Sam and Lockers playing.
22/07/2013 19:45 St Helens 22 v 16 Wigan Warriors Langtree Park - Beaten by an average Saints team lacking confidence. Sam, Lockers, Hansen and Micky Mac (for 60 mins) left out.
27/07/2013 17:00 London Broncos 0 v 70 Wigan Warriors Leigh Sports Village - London were embarrassing.
August
02/08/2013 20:00 Wigan Warriors 21 v 16 Hull Kingston Rovers DW Stadium - Game could have gone either way.
09/08/2013 20:00 Wigan Warriors 12 v 30 Huddersfield Giants DW Stadium - Poor with the ball, lack of organisation, lack of leadership. Sam and Lockers missing again.
I fully expected us to get beat last night even before we knew Sam was absent again, as did others I spoke to before the game. Our form is very poor. Without Sam and Lockers I think we are probably a 4th/5th place team, thats the difference they make. Fully expect another poor performance at Catalan, probably with key players left out. I'm not too sure we can just turn our form on for a cup final but think we need to go all out in this game as winning at least 3 games against top 4 teams in the playoffs seems unlikely to me.
Well done to Hudds last night but I don't think it proves that much.

| You keep telling yourself that, you had the opportunity last night to be in the running to make a clean sweep this year- who bottled it?
Don't worry- giants fans aren't surprised at all to get no credit, you were poor, you were missing half your first 13, the ref gave us everything. That's all I hear.
What I saw was a side who dropped just as much ball as you giving you a taste of expansive creative rugby and spanking you in front of a big crowd - most of whom didn't have the decency to stay until the end.
No credit to the giants. What a surprise.
