Because teams would just throw silly money at overseas players rather than being rewarded for producing their own talent.

I don't agree with Mr Frisk!

It would appear that MR FRISK is just guessing like everybody else seems to be at the moment. There has been no clarity of what changes, if any, have been made to the cap rules.

Its alright having a go at him but he's no more spouting rubbish as the idiots who reckoned Wigan were going to be allowed to signed Gareth Thomas with nothing counting on the cap and his salary being paid by the RFL. Now those people were seriously deluded.

There's a salary cap?

I wouldn't mind some kind of percentage of a players salary be exempt based on length of service, so maybe after 3 years 1 or 2 %, increasing over time to a cap in year 10, maybe +2% each year to a max of 20%. This would allow players who are "imported" from wherever that are loyal to the club to have a level of reward. Home grown telent could have the clock ticking from 16 and so there's an advantage to develop players through the club rather than buy in in any case.

This would only apply for continual contract service, so Hock wouldn't get anything due to a break but would in 3 years but back to the entry level exemption.

Overseas quota still applies and control the number of non-federation/overseas players.

And I don't agree with Mr Frisk as having one player exempt feels like something that's disruptive to the team spirit on the whole.

Every youngster who breaks through in to the first team should have a certain % of their wages exempt from the cap, not just one. What if RU/NRL come in for Charnley next, or Farrell, or Mossop. I quite like the idea of the % increasing for each year a player has been at a club.

The "marquee" player shouldnt be an oversees player or someone transferred from another club, but on the flipside why should only one academy-produced player be exempt when 4 or 5 of similar quality could be produced within a few years of each other.

I am a simple man so i dont really understand that are they using it as a bonus system as you can't perdict you will be placed in the knights squad as it should be based on performance?

The next moan from that article will be from the lower teams saying our players dont get the chance in the english knights squad. also what about the actual england sqaud? i know gareth hock missed out on hes international bonus of 100k when he got caught by the anti dopping.

The answer to that is simple: produce better players. There is a line in that article about the cap allowance being shared when a home-grown player moves clubs, but the allowance doesn't really count for much to a team that doesn't spend to the cap anyway

Regarding the salary cap we need to stand back and have a bit of perspective. People are predicting armaggedon and the demise of the game because Eastmond, Joel Tomkins etc have gone to RU but a few years ago nobody had heard of Eastmond and Joel Tomkins and there was plenty of support for league.

Look at Premier League football and the huge salaries that the players earn there, the Premier League is one of the biggest payers in the world. But after every major tournament that England are in we hear the same post mortem...."the England players are not as good as everyone says they are"...."their lives are more about money and celebrity than football"...."in my day Bobby Moore/Nat Lofthouse earned two bob six pence and he had more pride in his shirt than Lampard and Gerrard on £150k a week".

Everyone is raving about the threat of losing England's world class stars to RU but we have to ask the question are they really world class or are they just like the England footballers, good in comparison to their own peers in their domestic league but woefully exposed when they come up against the top international sides?

England are great when they play France, Wales etc but how often do you see England go and stick it to the Aussies? About as often as you see England's multimillionaire footballers stick it to Spain and Brazil. Paying them big salaries isn't going to change that. The one time when there was a large influx of money into the game was at the time of the Super League war and that coincided with a large decline in Britain's performance. Despite loads of average British players getting six figure sums for signing with the ARL rather than Super League, compare the standard of GB team in the period 1996-1999 with the period 1992-1995, it didn't go up by any means.

even though i agree with you that no player cant be replaced, i still believe all rugby league players who put thier bodies into 10 mini car crashes a game should be able to retire and not need to work again and the old cap didnt allow that.

Is it 100k per player or per team? If it's per team then it doesn't really alter much does it?
