| I know Gaskell got mom , but I thought Lomax was awesome today! He really showed Finch and Deacon up today, I would be tempted to play Sam in the halves next week, we lacked creativity today and teams seem to have worked out whe Sam is going to join the line from FB.

| you don't need to change much just one of them days were you played crap and saints played better than you, still think it will be wigan vs wire final but going to take alot more out of you to get there. that defo puts us as favourite's as you're looking tired already and it's only game 1.

| Sam to 6, we need people to attack the line. Deacon is finished as a top level pro, has been for half a season in my opinion. I've never been a fan of 6 and 7 being pivots, much prefer a runner and a distributor and can't for the life of me think why O'Loughlin has had some of the attacking responsibility taken off him, that's what made us champions last year by having a forward be the link to the backs, we should utilise him much better.

I've not based it on one game, look at the next part of my sentence instead of picking and choosing for your argument. He puts his body on the line and gets a hell of a lot of damage for it but that's not his job. If you ask most Wigan fans I'm pretty sure they'd give you the same opinion. He's had his moments this year but thats it, moments.

| Of course I've mentioned it, can't make an opinion on 1 game, I've seen us play often enough this season. I'm a bigger fan tbh of having Sam at 6 we are too predictable, EVERY team knows its 2 passes and Sam around the back.

Just because they haven't said it before now doesn't mean they haven't thought it. They are just echoing what a lot of fans think about Deacs

| fair enough, how the feck am i supposed to know? that why i asked, what makes a world class fullback the opposition knows whats goin to hapen there just too good to stop it. i think sam is better in the halves just because he's a defensive weak link from what i seen of him.

| yes but strange how they mention it now, makes it look like making excuses. deacon confidence was shattered soon as he dropped the kick off. how strange a wire fan trying defend a wigan player from his own fans.

Knowing it and stopping it are 2 different things. He was still easily your most dangerous player today. On topic Lomax was outstanding for me and deserved MOM ahead of Gaskell, he looks the part in the halves and I hope he doesnt get shunted to make room for Hohaia

| Teams are stopping it in the back end of the season more than not. He was our most dangerous player because of his own ability rather than the team helping him out, I think we've come to rely too much on him. Lomax ran it today and was assisted by Gaskell. They contrast and complement each other well with their styles whereas with us Finch/Deacon do the same job.

| just a question when sam moved to full back do you think he imporved his personnel performances? or do you think it's better for the team to have him in the halves?

| Saints a better side without Pryce at 6?
I think so. Gaskell brings a top kicking game to the table and turned us time and again.

I agree. Pryce is still a top player but hasnt hit the straps since his injuries and he probably needs to play with Gaskell rather than instead of him. If he's fit he should be sat on the bench in 2 weeks.

| Is next week too important a game to tinker with team positions or blood some youth? The Crusaders game was definatley a missed opportunity! As we have seen from Saints this year, youth can add a spark, a spark that is sadly missing at Wigan in the last 3 weeks!

You don't throw a kid in at this stage. Deacon in particular was woeful today, but I can't see him being that bad again next week.
Their halves never stopped asking questions today, something we were sadly lacking.

It doesnt always work and a knockout game against a very strong Cats team is probably not the place to be throwing in a young halfback. We did it this year because we had no choice and at times we've looked poor, it would be a brave coach to drop one of your halves.

If Maguire is true to his word then several players deserve to be dropped never mind anything else, after not just todays performance but also after their performances of the last few weeks. However I cant see it and I think this is part of the problem. Over the last few months a definate complacency has set in amongst certain players that they are now undroppable. Yes players have been rested for a game here and there but players that have been left out have got their places back the week after, no matter how they have been playing, or how their stand ins have played. I also cant see Maguire changing things at this stage and I think some players think the same.

Lomax had just come back from an injury. It would have been putting a strain on a young mans body.
It is strange, Wigan have had a lot better season than Saints in terms of injuries. If Wigan had been the team with the injury hit season maybe Mellor would be the player on everyones lips.
Short term loses for long term gains.

| I very much doubt Madge will change much other than maybe the bench next week. It could well be his last game and the end of our season and i think he will be hoping the players hes had faith in all year will come good for him.
What i saw today was about 10-12 lead footed players who are running on reserve mentally and physically. Our defence at times was shocking. You know its bad when Paul Wellens scores two trys without a hand laid on him.
