Apparently Sam has the ability to hold down the tackling player and be tackled at the same time. Sinfeild's arm over his chest is all the fault of the ball held down by Sam, Sinfield's arm over his neck all the fault of Sam.

I do wonder how exactly anyone can clamp the tackling players arm around the neck with the ball to such a degree that he is held down and prevents the tackled player from getting up.

The second tackle would have been easy for Sinfield to get out of, just roll out of the way and no problem....

Sam's holding seems to be the new wrestling/holding/wearing cherry and white from sky.

Look at the size of Sinfield compared to Tomkins and you're telling me he cant get his arm away? Why shouldnt Tomkins pull his arm away from his body to let Sinfield free? He doesnt want to knock on in doing so.

And if Sinfield pulls his arm free Tomkins lets the ball slip and gets a penalty for a ball steal.
Its gamesmanship pure and simple.

Thats bull Tomkins knows exactly what he is doing.

So why should Sam take his arm away from his chest and risk knocking on? Its the defenders responsibility to roll away!

Can't do no wrong Sam and I'm a Leyther. They should look at McGuires injury or maybe lack of. Personally I think that him and his boss should be hauled over the coals.

Sam is clever, but Sinfield is a poophouse. Always playing the game on the margins and getting away with it. But the way Eddie was giving it too Sam, the guy is a disgrace to his proffession. Complete tool.

The penalty involving Snifield you can see Kevins hand around Sams chin. Or was it Sams hand that he had put all the way round his own kneck to make it look like Sinfields.

can some one tell me how tompkins manages to get opposing players to put their arms in there to trap them.

If you've ever played the game you'll know how easy it is to clamp the armof the tackler to make it look like holding down. If the tackler struggles it looks like he's starting something, if he doesn't then it looks like he is not rolling away.

It's the opposite of holding down in the tackle. Not a big issue - it's just pushing it to see how much you can get away with. It's always gone on and sometimes it's penalised, sometimes like tonight you get away with it.

And if you'd played the game to, you'd know a ref won't do anything about it, and will tell you to not be so bloody stupid to put your arm in that position. Ganson did exactly that in a previous game. It normally only happens when you're trying to interfere with the ball carrying arm on the inside, if you just wrap clamp it doesn't happen. Defenders fault for either pure stupidity, or trying his own gamesmanship and getting beaten at it.

Sam is using the arm to hold down the defender and win a pen. It's pretty obvious he does that.

Why such a great player like sam tomkins feels the need to try this niggly stuff is unreal. He's a top class player and should't get involved.

It's used as a response to the defenders arm slipping in and trying to dislodge the ball. Biggest case of pot+kettle argument i've ever seen, and anybody whinging about it needs to get a bloody grip a try playing the game, it's not all luvs and cuddles and queensberry bloody rules on either side.

Tomkins isnt actually breaking any rules by doing this is he? As Mr Ganson has said in previous matches to players, dont put your hand there then! Its not rocket science. To be held down you have to try and get up at least and on neither occasion did the Leeds players in question do that.

Ganson hit the nail on the head when he pointed it out previously, if you want to put your arm in there, it's your own bloody responsibility to get it out
