Last week I posted a thread asking whether it was in our interests to beat Saints because beating them gave us a harder game the following week. This week I also feel that beating Les Cats would give us a harder route to Old Trafford than losing. Here's my working:

If we win:
Wigan v Les Catalans
Warrington v St Helens
Leeds v Wakefield
Hull v Huddersfield

St Helens v Hull
Les Catalans v Leeds

Wigan v St Helens
Warrington v Leeds

If we lose:
Wigan v Les Catalans
Warrington v St Helens
Leeds v Wakefield
Hull v Huddersfield

Wigan v Hull
St Helens v Leeds

Warrington v Leeds
Les Catalans v Wigan

So basically, unless you think any of those games would have different outcomes, we can play either Saints, or Hull then Les Cats. The latter two look much easier opponents to me, plus we would have McIlorum back for the final. Thoughts?

mmmmm....we beat Cats......who is to say Leeds will win in france.......even if they do it would be a hard game and we would have club call and could pick winner of Cats/Leeds......

Win and win well to build confidence then play a semi in 2 weeks and win at all costs and then go and do it in the final.

Thats the best route regardless of who we play along the way.

Really? They have won 4 grand finals in 5 years and turned us over in a semi already this year, I would much rather play Saints, who have lost 5 in a row and we've beat in every important game this year

Giving up clubcall and risk being sent to Perpignan, off course it is in our best interests to win. We don't win this week we don't reach Old Trafford IMO.

Well if we do win we'll have to play WCC game next season which will inevitably leave our players too tired at the backend of the year to mount a serious playoff challenge so let's all hope for a nice day out at Old Trafford without the burden of winning the damn thing.

Whilst winning against Stains was debateable, there is no doubt that we need to be winning our games from now on.

Also don't forget if we lose friday we get another chance but Latics are home that week and Sky have pencilled in fri and sat for the games to be played, so it's looking like the Leigh Sporting Village.

I was one of the people who wanted us to lose on Friday,but we must beat Catalan because if we lose and so do Warrington saints get club call and it will be 100% certain that if us and Warrington are in semi(last chance) we are going to be playing each other and saints get the easier game

Sky moved our game to the Sunday last year to allow for the stadium situation, so I'd have been hoping for that to be the case again, if it came to it.

Losing on Friday would give Catalan a guaranteed home semi-final and, if we were to then win our Week Two game, whether it's Wire or Saints with Clubcall, they'd surely choose to avoid playing us - leaving us with a trip to France in Week Three. I don't imagine anyone would consider that to be the easy route, and even if we won out there, it would hardly make for ideal Old Trafford preparation.

It's not even a question - win on Friday, end of.
