I asked a question on the Leigh Centurions board wanting to know the identity of a Wigan player who was photographed next to EMB in a 1953 Leigh 'A' v Wigan 'A' match. Perhaps here would have been a better starting point!?
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=532093&tsmp=1342812097
Initially the chap was named as Ronnie Hurst, who did play in the match, but a friend who knows where Ronnie lives asked him to confirm this and was told that it wasn't him.
I've now traced a list of the Wigan players who took part in the match and was wondering whether anyone on here could name the mystery man??
Wednesday evening 16th. Dec 1953. (Leigh 'A' -11 Wigan 'A' - 3)
Platt,
Ralph,
Broome,
Fleming,
R.Hurst, (only scorer on Wigan team -1Try)
Ashcroft,
Alty,
Grundy,
Mather,
Williams,
Silcock,
McTighe,
J.Parr.
Thanks in anticipation!

I was at the match and this is what I can rember about the players you named,I presume the order you name them is the posistions you think they played.
No1 Platt,it was not him.
No2 Ralph,as he was right wing I dont see how he got across to the other wing when Baily(also right wing) ran 20 yards to score.
No3 Broome was a big lad with a head of black hair.
No 5 Ronnie Hurst also was a very dark haired lad and you say it wasn't him.
This leaves Nos 4 and 6. You have Ernie Ashcroft at No 6 and Fleming at No 4. Ernie Ashcroft played 95% of his rugby at No 4 to my knowledge, even though he may have played at 6 on the odd occasion.
Now we come to Fleming,as far as I know he played a lot that particular season at No 6 and I have this vague recolection that he was a blonde lad.
Not conclusive I know but I hope it helps.

| IIRC EMB was an Olympic sprinter, but I do know he was a rubbish rugby player.

| Thanks for the responses.
As you say, not conclusive, though I'm still hopeful that someone will pin this down eventually.
Great reply by the way, stillinthepast.

| Try asking on the wiganworld forum, plenty of RL people look there.
