Quote ="Last Son of Wigan"Here's a little quiz question for you:
Hansen is a first team starter for Wigan, he gets injured. Who the following week starts in the 1-13 line up?
The answer will give you his direct replacement.
For an extra point: how many games have Wigan lost in his absence?'"
The answer will not give his direct replacement. The answer will give a player regularly included in the same squad as him. Again, I reiterate my point about the subs bench. If it worked the way it did in football, with a very limited number, no chance to bring a subbed player back on and not being allowed to utilise your full bench, then yes, you would be correct.
However, that's not how Rugby League works, thankfully. If you start the game as one of the four on the bench, you're extremely likely to get just as much game time as the man who starts in your position on the pitch. That does not make you his replacement.
And for my extra point, I addressed that issue in my very first post on this thread:
Quote ="Lucky XIII"Have we missed HH in terms of results? Fair enough, if you look at nothing but, no we haven't.
Have we missed HH in terms of the team's performance over 80 minutes in each of those games? Quite potentially. It's impossible to say for certain without a bleedin' time machine. He offers a hell of a lot to the squad when he's in it. He's very quick for a SR and is one of the best defenders in the league.'"
