Like a lot of us i have been wondering about the move to the Hive and why AK would consider taking over a 'loss making' venture. I have said perhaps they think that when the new deal comes through in a few years time perhaps they are hoping for a big new deal with BT in competition now. It seems that Sky have been at work in the background and have pre empted things with this new deal. If the RFL have done their job this deal should have ensured the LB's and the other minor clubs are now financially viable.
Is that being too optimistic? DH must have known what this deal is!
Could be a turning point in our fortunes.
Also could answer the question of why we have an agreement of only 2 years at the Hive. With the new contract kicking in after that we should no longer be a lossmaking club - so AK whould then be amenable to being the owner!? Just reading between the lines folks

| This is fantastic news.
I would hope that it makes the Broncos an attractive investment proposition not only as a Super League club but also as Championship/Super League 2 club.
I am substantially more excited about both the new season and the medium-term future than I was only a week or so ago. There remain some very obvious obstacles to the Broncos' survival but, if this TV deal really is worth £150m+, it's a potential lifeline to the club.

One of the few time cant agree with you Frank.
If they want to show more Catalan games I bet they going to work on a deal with French TV over this. As for us I don't hold out much hope of seeing more of us on there, simply because I had a look at the Sky TV guide for the upcoming season of SL, and Sky only covering 3 of our games (not including Magic weekend). I did a quick check and from what I saw Wire on at least 8 or 9 times and roughly 7/8 for Wigan.
Only reason I bring this up is, a lot of people claim that sky want a London team in SL to promote it, well 3 games over a season is hardly promoting it in my book. In fact I'm asked nearly every season by mates why ain't we on TV as much as northern clubs and I have run out of excuses of what to say now lol.
If sky are going to pour this much money into SL, then seem as they have lost most the union games to BT that they use to show on Sat afternoons (blimey you use to get 2 games one after the other) or they have a game on the red button, could Sky not go down this route for SL and have one game in afternoon followed by early evening game or even one on the red button to watch. I may be wrong but just feel that if sky showed a game or two as they did with union more in the afternoon you would get more people watching which could lead to more wanting to see a game.
I just know that when my son played football and use to watch him, in the clubhouse they would have sky sports on and I would say 40 to 55% of the time when the footie finished on sky they leave it on and watch a union game, and the times I heard remarks made about the game they watching (normal stuff of wow that's good or s##t did you see him get hit) followed by why do they have to kick of so much. all I could think is if a SL game had been on they would have not seen the ball off the pitch so much and would have loved the hits.....
I know what I have wrote all sounds crazy, but if sky is serious about SL then why not go down this road. IMHO I feel that when sky showed some much union it was what got people to games and major sponsors to..

No way! I can assure you!
If you put the Sky deal down to Nigel, I feel even more sorry for you, look at the position Sky are in, the coverage of sports they have lost to BT Vision, including Premiership RU, anyone who could not negotiate a deal with that hand would not deserve to be in any job at all! Something with Nigel Wood though is he never really gives us all the facts of deals, just headlines to try and impress, lets wait and see for all the fine details.

| this could be an absolute life saver for the Broncos.I think you have to be doolally to think relegation isnt nailed on this year but now AK, or another potential buyer, can see that there will be external money coming in at SL2 level. I'm far more upbeat now about the Bronco's existence in 2015 than I was earlier today!

| This deal needs to have a contra advertising component so a club like the bronco's can promote themselves in tv ad's on sky. just like the ARL organized with the Melbourne storm getting contra adds on channel 9 and foxtel to help promote there brand and attract people to the game. In exchange bronco's have to place skysports logo on jersey, at ground and on there website its a contra advertising sponsorship deal. Im positive that is in RFL's, skysports and bronco's ability and powers to make it happen. Contra advertising would must be avaliable for other area to eg Say Hull FC want to play an on the road game to promote there brand and expand the sport in neighbouring area's of the north like Grimsby or Shorpe then there would be space in the deal for that to! as well as for crucial promotion which i am sure that skysports already does a bit but needs to do better of big events eg magic weekend, test matches, world club challenge, super league semi finals and grand final etc.
Hope there is some deal for french tv as well seems to be signs of that with every catalans home game being covered. with french tv deal, french sponsorship and a 2nd french club Toulouse? (subject to relegation only with another french club or merged french clubs from elite 1) there would have to be enough cash to cover french sides salary caps and travel by all clubs to and from France plus enough left over for French Rugby league to get a cut and Sl to increase the salary cap a bit for all super league clubs. Dream a tad bit but its definitly within the realms of things possible i think.
Also need a free to air component where delayed game of the week or highlights package is shown nationwide in the UK on free to air TV at a decent hour

| i get what you mean gutterfax, but it is within the bronco's ability to send a representative along to such a group even play a role in setting up such a group in the first place it speaks volumes that they haven't tried to set up such a group. Its never to late to start!
basically a representative person with some say in each of these organisations RFL, bronco's, skolars, Hemel, etc, administrators of london junior and amatuer scence, plus other relevant and interested parties meet for a couple of hours every other week to set goals, plan and promote and cross promote the sport in london and the south! from there can lobby rugby league broadcast partners, local councils etc. A rugby league big event s group needs to be established in london as a part of that. Thats all the ideas you get out of me for free....
with this sky deal its $200 million over 5 years so $40 millon pounds per year the super league should now be able to pay the full salary cap grant to each of the 12 clubs of $1.8 million! and allowing the clubs to sign 2 big name signings outside of the cap paid for by a rich owner or sponsor. I mean a basic super league minimum wage contract would have to registered but the rest of the cash for 2 marque signings comes from sponsor/owner.
Also how about sky and RFL now get together make a real super slick couple of commercials to promote 2015 super league season as well as airing the ad on sky tv. You get the BBC who are partners with the RFL for test matches and challenge cup to play the ad as a part of that deal and or in exchange for one delayed game or weekly highlights package played free to air nationwide in a reasonable timeslot. then Rfl place a few well choosen ads nationwide targeting its demographic audiences in key media formats, giving the RFL press releases more clout with those organisations as a paying advertiser! Sky may as well as produce the ad even help pay for some of it as it could be a double promotion between super league and sky promoting the sport and sky TV subscribtiuons. Combine all that with a few super league on the road events eg: super league london 9's, a few selected super league on the road games in expansion areas in north and south a hey presto youve got somewhat of a national profile!

| Interesting article by Ian Lenagan in League Express regretting having voted for it. Saying that it is ridiculous to sign for something occurring in the future and no one else bidding for it. Seems like the SL clubs had a gun held to their heads and 24 hours to decide!

I agree with him. That contract for the short term is fine but there are more players coming into the market now and they should have spoken to BT months ago to see what their position was in anticipation of the new negotiations coming up to strengthen their bargaining capability. People who say Sky aren't bothered about RL are wrong. They just want to screw us for the minimum amount Giving us 24hrs to decide means Sky knew BT would give us a better deal IMO. Ex News of World reporters would have found out for them.

| 8 Years contract! was completely wrong, it is a superb article written by Ian Lenagan, typical just allowing clubs 24 hours to give it consideration. It also is annoying the way Premier Sports was treated, never given a chance to compete, in fact it was never put out to tender, so BT was never given a chance.
Premier were making plans to go forward with Rugby League, and just to get a call saying this is your last season, so you can't blame they saying, then we will leave it at that and forget about the new season, this is after Premier pulled everything out for The RFL with the World Cup coverage.
As I said when the agreement with Sky was announced, The RFL are quite cleaver and like politicians, and only give headline titbits to their advantage, never tell us straight.

| Rubbish he's just upset as he lost the war with the RFL. It's a massive deal, the market is good at the moment in terms of competition and may just as easily go down again in 2 years time.
They've got a massive increase and don't owe Premier Sports anything. They didn't pay a penny to show live RL.
I love the way RL fans turn this excellent deal into a negative within days.

| So why'd he vote for it then? Sounds like a man hedging his bets to me.
"Err I didn't want to m'Lud, but I were forced inta it, 'onest I was, I'm an innocent man and wouldna dunnit if it weren't for t'others".
Premier are not in a position to match the Sky money, BT weren't interested, Sky's increase was dependent on longivity, so it was given.
