OK, as we have confirmed we are competeing this year our next problem is going to be getting a squad together within the next 2 weeks.
I know for a fact (and as I have been informed by people in the know down under) that TR has been in discussions with various key people and directly with some players over here with regards to recruitment for the 2014.
I have included a link of all the NRL players from 2013 currently without a contract for next year.
www.zerotackle.com/nrl/rugby-lea ... tion-2013/
Now we can exclude Blake Ferguson from that list as he is about to do some bird for one of his indiscretions after another faux par during one of his benders. But that list does not look very good, a lot of players whom are either in the autumn of their careers or at the beginning but have hardly set the world alight.
But I have been reliablely informed that TR has had 'contacts' over here running there eyes over some NSW cup and under 20 talent. Also TR is in contact with 'unnamed' NRL players whom are out of contract for this year as I mentioned earlier.
Sorry to be purposely vague but it should be interesting what shakes out over here in the next week.

| Agreed. We need players who will be instrumental in winning games - gamebreakers - not players to fill a gap. we have them here already!

| The Sunday People claim we are after three players:
Jarrod Sammut
Michael Platt
Carl Forster (on loan)
The only other rumour I have seen is Warrington have released a player who we hope to sign and that is presumably Rhys Williams
Other commentators name no one and say we are looking to 'buy' Bradford Bulls players and that a deal with Wigan is in place for loan players. I'd be shocked if we pay a fee!
I pray that we are not to be treated as akin to a National League club and will have full season loans rather than players who can be recalled near instantly with four or five players who have 1 training session per week and then play

If you sign players on loan then they are yours for the first month after that they can be recalled at a moment's notice. The system in place in the Championships is Dual Reg where any player not selected for their first club can then be made available to the partner club for that week's fixture.

From us I can see us loaning out some or all of the following who have played some SL:
Jack Murphy (FB)
Dom Manfredi (W)
George Williams (SH)
Rhodri Lloyd (SR)
James Greenwood (P)

| I just hope as some channels say, that it is Sean Long, who has been working on recruitment for a few weeks.
Though in today's RL media, Phil Vievers is upset with Rea, that he was approached to join the club, then a few days later that changed. I still question Rea as coach, both from his past signings and last years disaster, though if he had taken over upstairs his past there would have been no better.

| My memory goes back longer than the arrival of Mr Rea. If you think he's a good enough coach and/or CEO for a professional Rugby League club, that's fine. I don't. It's only my opinion but I feel there are a lot of posters on here who are happy not even with second best, but with second worst.
Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to who signed Kaufusi and/or Rodney, my apologies if I was wrong.
I think I am correct in saying Rea did coach them in the well organised and successful 2013 season?

| Tony Rea has only signed Soward, Tommy Lee, Hurst and one or two loan players.
He can't be blamed for Powell wasting the salary cup on 2-3 year deals for dross.

...correct. David Hughes can be though and guess who holds the purse strings for 2014?

| Quote ="Euclid"This is the same Tony Rea that presumably played some part in the signing of clowns like Kaufusi and Rodney?'" Surely the issue in relation to the under-performance of Kaufusi and Rodney was nothing to do with any issue related to signing them, it was to do with getting them to perform to their potential when they were here. I think that they were both signed under Powell's regime or maybe even earlier, but they didn't perform for either Powell or Rea (or for me, FWIW).

Yep, the same one that signed the incumbent QLD hooker, Jason Hetherington; Kiwi Captain, Richie Barnett; origin & international Jimmy Dymock and Dennis Moran and Tony Martin at the same time. Yep, that Tony Rea.
Quote ="gutterfax"...correct. David Hughes can be though and guess who holds the purse strings for 2014?'"
To be Fair GF. If the person holding the purse strings says, "you have X amount of money to spend on players". That tends to be the end of their involvement. Recruitment people go and find, talk to agents, scouts etc. Our recruitment person is Tony Rea isn't it? The buck stops there.

100% correct, but in the context of my post, the problem was that the person saying you have $xxxxx to spend was David Hughes and the person he was talking to was Rob Powell
Anyhoo....rumours are that we have been granted no exceptions on the overseas quota so it's loaners from SL and a few foreigners together with the 11 or so we have already that need to get us to 12th or better.
