| Anyone get any tickets?
We applied for £1800 of tickets across loads of events (Boxing, Cycling, Triathlon, Swimming,Athletics, Tennis and all the horsey events) and we ended up with two tickets for the Ladies Pentathlon (at least The UK has a good record in that event and not far away from me in Greenwich).
Maybe I should be grateful for the tickets I got but can't help feeling really disappointed.
Most of my friends (all Londoners) didn't bother applying for any tickets (I can't understand the apathy towards a once in a lifetime event held in your own city). Conversely, some horse rider friends of mine (all affiliated to British Eventing) tried for £2500 tickets and didn't get anything for the Equine stuff but did get a ticket for the BMX bikes.
So hope that the Organizers can do London proud...I'm so excited and looking forward to it (even though I'll be just watching on the telly).
What are people on here's view?
PS That 2012 Programme is hilarious...what other country would mock itself as we do?

| Handball and volleyball
Missed out on hockey and the opening ceremony
Talked to someone involved with the olympics who said there's always additional releases of tickets when they know how many seats they can squeeze in, tickets the sponsors will take up, press will be there...
Will go for fencing if/when the next tranche is announced
Looking forward to it

Think the Aussies did it first with a parody show when they had the olympics.

Possibly to do with the fact that most people don't care whatsoever about athletics/swimming/equestrianism etc. and have never watched it in their lives. I hate all this "it's the olympics so we have to watch it" rubbish.
Anyway I've got tickets to some of the football matches at Wembley but wish I hadn't bothered now.

| Good that some of you managed to get some tickets.
TW15- You surprise me that the Aussies would do a comedy mocking themselves and organizers of a national event (didn't think they were big on sending themselves up).
Mr Logic- not sure I have heard anyone saying we've all got to watch the Olympics. Watching the Olympics on tv is one of my earliest childhood memories and I've loved it eversince (especially the Sydney one) Strangely, couldn't tell you many of the medal winners though...guess I mainly like the event.

| I prefer the quality of the event, not the event itself. Being able to run fast is an attribute, not a sporting event. I personally have no interest in single skill sports, and the only one I have any degree of respect for is the decathlon or pentathlon. Being able to run fast may help you be a better sportsmen, but years of playing and watching the likes of rugby league, rugby union, cricket and football have left me looking at athletics and thinking it can help these games, but would you honestly go and watch someone run, cycle or swim if it wasn't the Olympics. It just isn't drama as there can be no twists, I get the angle that everyone can understand the simplicity of it, and that it is a world event that has history.
I struggle to find time to keep up with the multi-skilled sports, I cannot understand why people seem to defend a sports day, because it has achived event status, and I cannot envisage me watching a solitary minute of the single skill sports in London, but then again I wouldn't have gone to the Nuremberg Rallies, I go to the event for the quality on show, not because of the show and who else is interested in it throughout the world.

| The Olympics has never really excited me. I never played 'track & field' at school, most of the sports I like are not Olympic sports (cricket, rugby, golf). Just because it's in London, doesn't mean I'm any more interested.
The most intriguing aspect for me is the Olympic Park itself and the whole sustainability / 'legacy' (nebulous concept that it is) angle. I had a tour of the Park a few months back and it looked in better shape than I imagined. The Velodrome is genuinely impressive. The Athlete's Village is pretty standard modern developer-boxy housing though, which was disappointing.
You can't deny that the Olympics has been good as it has given the government the jab it needed to regenerate Stratford, which has been transformed (no Westfield without it).
That said, I won't be glued to my telly.

I went to the velodrome for the World Cup test event. It was awesome and the atmosphere was electric.

| My definition of an Olympic Sport is one that 99.9% of the population would, in normal times, cross the road to avoid.
