Don't see the point of extending the contracts of Temata, Ward, Randall, Howell etc. Well beyond their sell-by date.

I actually thought this time that the "new signings" would actually be new players. Fail.

I've learnt from long and bitter experience that the 'new' signings are very rarely new.

As mentioned in another threat, I think we should jettison a lot of those OOC, but finances probably dictate otherwise.

The club will announce tomorrow a 1st team player who has signed a contract extension!

Am I the only one that thinks this is really bad news? The guy is constantly overshadowed by Ellis at hooker, proven to be a less than capable half-back and hasn't shown anything like his best for two seasons. He also takes up a Quota spot, I assume.

edit: the stats don't lie. I can only assume we're resigned to losing Ellis to a bigger club because Randall comes up short compared to him in tackles, errors, metres, offloads.....

Agree, Randall has not been the same since his injury last year. Hope we have better news with Ellis and of course we can get a decent half back.

Randall hasn't been the same player that he was 2 years ago....but he has experience and if he can regain that form he is a quality player. We need to play him at hooker...not half back. He isn't quick enough and it doesn't play to his advantages to play half back...at hooker he can get the ball out quickly and use his experience to suck defenders in around the ruck.

I agree I'd like to see Ellis retained. Not sure if we're working hard to do so, but it would be a shame to see him leave.

Saw on here a while ago that Rinaldi is tipped to return to Quins....if so he'll need to improve his performances, as at Wakefield he has had some shocking performances. I always liked him at Quins, put 100% effort in and maybe if the rumour is true a return here may spark that again.

The site has Randall saying the club are definitely bolstering the squad next year and they're aiming to move up the league table.....I know this is what they always say, but I really hope that future signings actually move us forwards in a good way.

Randall, like Howell has been disappointing, we really need our quota players to be top notch.

There's no divine right to new contracts, even with injuries taken into account. You earn them through performance. Randall has not done so. Poor decision.

Agree, this is disappointing news. I was hoping we'd find a new quota player to replace him, but once again we come up short. Guess this means Ellis is leaving.

Unfortunately it probably means he is.

We struggle to get players to come to London and when we do, and they play well, they are discarded.

Not suprised by the resigning, as the club seems to have to have rose-tinted memories of Chad Randall being the same player that took the field for those first 100 games in the Harlequins colours. I was suprised that he was given a two-year deal, just plain suprised. Hopefully a return to the hooking role (as understudy to Andy Ellis) and Chad can use his hooking brain and use his legs more effectively than in recent times. A one year deal would have been a better deal for the club.

Dissapointing that Randall thinks we are "not that far off". IMO, we are currently uncompetitve in this league. We lack quality in several positions and have no strength in depth. Not that excited by his extension unless he will be used as a backup hooker to Ellis with a decent new signing at half back.

Quota players shouldn't be backups. They shouldn't be filling positions. They should be the best. Chad Randall....just....isn't. By any measure you want to talk about.

This is a terrible decision. Sometimes I wonder with this club why I bloody bother.

Even if we spent to cap there is the 10% extra London living wage that is banded about and given that the average wage is £66k, we would always be 3 players away from having a truly competitive squad as effectively we would be paying an extra £150 grand on wages just to live down South. Hopefully Chad was referring to our much hyped spend towards cap, hell lets do a Melbourne and break it in style.
